Happy Valentine’s Day Home Decor Piece

February 5, 2018

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Happy Valentine’s Day Home Decor Piece. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, why not create something pretty to decorate your home? Using a variety of dies from Joset Designs and Els van de Burgt Studio, my home decor piece came together quickly. I hope that you enjoy my tutorial!

1. Die cut the 4 1/2″ and 4″ Stitched Fishtails out of patterned paper. Ink the edges using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
2. Die cut the 2 3/4″ and 2″ Scalloped Hearts out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Spun Sugar Distress Ink using a blending tool with foam over the entire surface of the larger heart. Blend Fired Brick Distress Ink over the entire surface of the smaller one. Ink the edges of both hearts using Black Soot Distress Ink
3. Die cut the Scalloped Fishtail Border from a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim the scalloped border piece so it matches the width of the larger Stitched Fishtail from step 1.
4. From the Words 3 – Happy Holidays die, die cut ‘happy valentine’s day’  out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.
5. Choose an Arrow from the Arrow Die Set and die cut it out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Black Soot Distress Ink with a blending tool and foam over the entire surface of the arrow.
6. Die cut the smallest heart from the Entwined Hearts die set (the one that has three mini hearts within it) out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut a second time (6 mini hearts). Leave two hearts white. Blend Spun Sugar Distress Ink with a blending tool and foam over two of the hearts, blend Black Soot Distress Ink over the remaining two.
7. Die cut three leaves from the Trio of Leaves Die set out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Evergreen Bough Distress Ink with a blending tool and foam over the entire surface of the leaves for a soft mottled effect as shown above..
8. From the Large Flower Set die, die cut one of the flowers twice out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.  Die cut the center die once out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Spun Sugar Distress Ink with a blending tool and foam over each flower as well as the center.
9. From the Small Flower Set die, die cut the flower with heart-shaped petals four times out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.  Die cut the center die twice out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Spun Sugar Distress Ink with a blending tool and foam over two of the flower as well as a center. Blend Fired Brick Distress Ink over the other two flowers and remaining center.
10. Adhere the 4″ Stitched Fishtail to the the 4 1/2″ Stitched Fishtail. Adhere the scalloped fishtail border to the bottom as shown (attached from the back).
11. Adhere the arrow to the middle of the 2 3/4″ scalloped heart at an angle as shown. Top with the 2″ heart. Adhere the layered heart with arrow to the banner, using foam squares for dimension.
12. Adhere leaves and flowers as shown in the photo above.
13. Adhere the sentiment and the small hearts as shown above.
14. To finish the top of the home decor piece, punch two holes and tie some white ribbon through each one to create hanging loops.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Happy Valentine’s Day Home Decor Piece.
