It’s All Glitter

Yes, this entire card is created by using glitter on all the die cuts. Good Morning, this is Selma Stevenson today. I admit, I am not great at coloring, but I love to add color by using glitter, especially on Christmas cards. Below I will show you my glitter organization and explain how I created my card.

ecd-glitter-trayFirst I will show you how I store my glitters. There are 60 beautiful colors of the Elizabeth Craft Designs Silk Microfine Glitter. I wanted to show you how I organize my glitters to find just the right color for my project. I use a one-inch circle punch to punch out card stock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive attached. This size circle fits well on the bottom of the glitter jars. The adhesive covering is pulled off and the circle dipped into the jar of glitter, rubbed well with my fingers to bring out the sparkle, then attached to the bottom of the jar. This size circle gives a good view of the “finished” glitter color. To attach the bottom of the glittered circle to the bottom of the jar, I used Beacon Gem-Tac permanent glue to make sure it attaches well to the plastic jar. The jars are then arranged by color in a tray, with the bottom up so it is easy to see the true color of the different shades of each glitter.

There are different sizes available of the Clear Double Sided Adhesive. I love to use the adhesive a lot when working with dies, so I prepare sheets of card stock covered with the adhesive, so it is quick and easy to use it when needed. I like the largest roll of adhesive which is 6-inches wide. I cut strips of 8 1/2″ by 11″ card stock that are 6″ by 11″. The Adhesive roll is pulled out and a piece of the card stock laid on top. It is cut along the end of the card stock. I have a tray where I keep a supply of these sheets handy for quick use. This is a big time saver.

Now for the card. Note: All die cuts on this card are cut using one of the sheets of white card stock with the Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Place the die on the adhesive side to die cut. (Adhesive will be on the FRONT of the pieces.)

  1.  Use the new Els van de Burgt Studio Chevron Background die. It was die cut using a technique Els shows us on one of her videos.  You can watch the Technique Friday with Els, Silk Microfine Glitter Butterfly 1 YouTube Video at this LINK for instructions. The colors of glitters I used for the Chevron Background include: Go To Green, Spring Peridot, Soft Green, and Light Gold Silk Microfine Glitters.
  2. Die cut the Els van de Burgt Studio 5-Part Pine. Use Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over all the adhesive.  Attach the tree, using glue dots to the left side of the Chevron Background. Start at the bottom adding as many pieces as you want for the height of the tree. The tree looks very dimensional; all five die cut pieces were used on this card.
  3. Die cut all the pieces you want to use for your snowman, from the  CountryScapes Build A Snowman die set, using the adhesive-covered card stock. The colors of glitter used on this part of the card include: Cool Diamond, True Red, Black, Chocolate, and Orange Silk Microfine Glitter.
  4. Die cut the A Way With Words – Let It Snow, and use Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to cover it.
  5. Die cut 6 Snowflakes from Karen Burniston’s Sleigh Gift Card Holder PopUp and glitter them with Cool Diamond Glitter.
  6. Cut a piece of card stock 1/4″ larger than the Chevron Background. Use 10MM Clear Double Sided Adhesive Roll and attach a strip around all the edges of this rectangle. Use True Red Silk Microfine Glitter to create a red border.  Attach the Chevron Background over the red border. Tip: When you only want a glittered border, it saves adhesive and glitter to just use the narrow strips of adhesive around the edges of a piece of card stock.

I hope I have given you some helpful information about storing your glitters and helpful info about creating your adhesive-covered card stock in advance to help save time when you are creating your projects.

I have done the same thing with embossing powders! It is a lot easier.
I do not have that many ECD glitters yet, but I am slowly purchasing them. I will be using your tip when I do.
    Thanks for the tutorial.
