Love

January 3, 2018

Good Morning.   This is Selma Stevenson today.  It is time to wish you a Happy New Year!  Our next holiday will be Valentine’s Day and nothing represents this special day better than roses and hearts (or is it chocolate for some of you?).  I have designed a card using Susan’s Garden Rose 1 die set and Elizabeth Craft Designs Scalloped Hearts die set. The beautiful sentiment is from one of the A Way With Words die sets.

To create this card, cut a 12 x 6 inch piece of cardstock; score and fold in half to form a 6 inch square top-fold card base.

1.  Emboss a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock using the Heart Strings embossing folder. Place the white card stock inside the embossing folder twice in order to emboss the entire width of the piece.

2.  Using the Scalloped Heart die set, cut all but the largest heart from pink cardstock. Layer and adhere the four using foam tape to add dimension between the hearts.

3.  Use the Susan’s Garden Rose 1 die set to cut petals for one large rose from White Soft Finish Cardstock.  Use PanPastels in bright pink to shade the lower portion of each petal.  Shape the petals using Susan’s Flower Tool Kit. Assemble the rose. (Tip: Review Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s YouTube video tutorial if you have not made a rose before!)

4.  Using the same die set, cut seven leaves. Use the Susan’s Garden Leaf Tool to draw veins on the leaves, then color with light Green PanPastels. Shape with the Flowre Tool Kit.

5.  Roses are always more beautiful when combined with Baby’s Breath.  Use the Garden Notes Queen Anne’s Lace die set to create Baby’s Breath.

6.  Using the small flower die plate, cut eight times from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Each time, after cutting but before taking the cardstock out of the die, do the following: Turn the cardstock face down onto the black molding pad (remember, keep the cardstock still in the die) and use a small stylus to push the small flowers out of the die and shape them at the same time

7.  Die cut the stems using the Queen Anne’s Lace die set.  (I have shown three stems here, but only needed two for the card).

8.  Use Kids Choice Glue to spread glue down one long stem.  Add a small dot of glue to a non-stick craft sheet or paper plate. Use tweezers to pick up small flowers, one at a time, dipping the bottom into the glue and attaching it to the stem that has been spread with a bit of wet glue. Allow flowers to cluster and overlap for a fuller stem of baby’s breath. Glue flowers to all eight stems. Repeat for the second die cut. Allow to dry.

9.  Add more flowers to create a fuller cluster at the tip of each stem. (Overlap as needed and glue them on top of each other as needed. Allow the glue to dry.

10.  Once the baby’s breath pieces are dry, cut each piece in half. to create four four-stem pieces.

11.  Using the ‘love’ die from the Baby Love die set, cut the word twice from the same pink cardstock as the hearts. Glue the two words, layered one on top of each other for dimension. Allow to dry, then glue to white cardstock. Use scissors to cut a curvy shape around the word ‘love’ as shown. Adhere the sentiment to the lower right corner of the card front with dimensional tape.

12.  Adhere the layered hearts to toward the upper right side of the card front using dimensional tape under the largest heart.

13.  Attach the Rose on the lower left side, using a dimensional glue dot to hold it in place. Tuck and glue the rose leaves and the baby’s breath under and around the rose as shown.

14.  Add two rows of adhesive-backed pearls across the bottom edge of the card (or glue a string of tiny round pearls if preferred). Add pearls arranged as a heart to the center of the smallest pink heart.  Add Transparent/Silver or Transparent/Gold Glitter Dots to every other scallop on the largest and second largest pink heart. Add a large adhesive-backed pearl to the upper right and left corners of the card.

This card would be equally lovely with a red rose, red hearts, and the word ‘love’ in red.
