A Way With Words

CAS Miss You with Coreopsis Flower

July 14, 2018

Hi!  It’s Diana here today to share with you another clean and simple card I made with the Miss You die by A Way With Words and my latest acquisition of Susan’s Garden dies: the Coreopsis.  I don’t know about you but every flower evokes a different feeling or memory.  Roses make me think of my mom, red roses and white daisies make me think of my husband, and today’s flower, the coreopsis makes me think of my childhood.  When I was 6, I had a birthday party and two of my dear cousins brought me a bouquet of the lance-leaf coreopsis.  They are the very first flowers I received and though I’m pretty sure now that they were wildflowers picked in some field, I love them the same!  Flowers are flowers.

But back to my card, this is another one that I think can be easily modified to suit you and would work with any of the many flower dies Elizabeth Craft Design carries.  The Way With Word dies work beautifully with them.  Read on for the instructions:

1.  Using yellow and green card stock, make the coreopsis flower as shown in the YouTube video in this link.  Instead of making the stamens the way Susan did in her video, I put a blob of glue in the center and covered them with gold microbeads.  I personally prefer my flowers a bit flatter for easier mailing but the 3-D effect would be great on other projects.

2.  Trim a sheet of white card stock to 4 1/8 ” by 5 3/8″.  Using Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink , I sponged a corner of the white layer and then splattered with a bit of Mowed Lawn Distress Ink .  I used the same green ink to sponge my leaves so they would match.

3.  My A2 card base is the same dark red as the one I die cut out the Miss you.  This is a similar shade to the R59 Copic marker I used for the center of the coreopsis.

4.  Adhere die cuts and flowers as shown in the picture.  I confess that I had actually made 3 of those flowers to put on the card but it was too busy for my taste.  As I have a tendency to not use “scraps” but still keep them, I went ahead and used the same dark red paper to make a little gable box.  I then adhered the extra flower on the front of the box.  Voila – now I have a project instead of a card.  Lol!  (The third flower didn’t make the cut as it was my first attempt and just didn’t look as good.)

I think they look cute together, don’t you?  Now I’m also thinking of making a whole garden of gable boxes with all the different flowers.  How pretty would that be?  Gotta go play, bye!
