Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Card

Non-Traditional Floral Thanksgiving Card

Hi everyone! It’s Elena today and this time of year always makes me want to create some cards for Thanksgiving. I don’t own many traditional Thanksgiving themed stamps or dies so I decided to try an experiment to see if I could create a card with a Thanksgiving feel using the Color My Flowers stamps and dies from this past spring, but with fall colors and some easy, fun techniques. I like the result and hope you do too. It’s always nice for me to find new ways to use stamps and dies that I may not normally think of for certain holidays! Here’s how I made the card:

Non-Traditional Floral Thanksgiving Card

Step One – Trim a piece of Spring Green Soft Finish Cardstock to about 5″ x 4″. Using fall colors of Distress Oxides and foam makeup sponges, blend reds, greens, and oranges near each other and together so random areas look like parts of leaves that are changing color. (shades of brown will appear where these colors mix.) When you are happy with the look of the cardstock, place it into a stamp platform and stamp each of the leaves in the Color My Flowers Clear Stamps onto parts of the cardstock that will best show the variety of colors under the stamped images. Because the cardstock is textured, using a stamp platform will produce the best results. You can stamp the images several times if needed to get a clean image. Stamp one of the leaves twice for a total of three leaves. Die cut with the matching dies (not pictured until Step 4). Set aside.
Floral Thanksgiving Card - Step 1Step Two – Stamp one each of two of the larger flowers from the Color My Flowers Clear Stamps onto 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock using waterproof black ink.  (Use a stamp platform.). Color them in fall tones using watercolor pencils, a detail brush and some water. Add a bit of turquoise to the flowers for some unexpected color. Die cut with the matching dies (not pictured until Step 4). Set aside for now.
Floral Thanksgiving Card - Step 2Step Three – Using 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut three each of the words “happy” and “thanksgiving” from the Words 3 Happy Holidays die set. Also die cut the words from Sunflower Soft Finish Cardstock. Using liquid glue, layer and adhere the words to create lots of dimension.
Floral Thanksgiving Card - Step 3Step Four –  Create an A2 top-fold card base from reddish-orange cardstock. Die cut a piece of Rust Soft Finish Cardstock using the second largest die in the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set. Stamp two of the smallest flowers in the Color My Flowers Clear Stamps onto Time For Teal Soft Finish Cardstock using black ink and die cut with the matching die. Stamp one additional small flower onto 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut with the matching die. Die cut 2 of the thin leafy branches in the Trio of Leaves die set out of Kraft brown cardstock. Add fall-colored dimensional drops to the centers of the flowers from Steps 2 and 4. Set aside to dry.
Floral Thanksgiving Card - Step 4Step Five – Use a clear glitter pen to add sparkle to the dimensional word embellishments and the Kraft brown leafy branches. Add 6 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of the Rust paper piece and adhere into the center of the red-orange card base. Add a small strip of the tape to the backs of the flowers and leaves (only in the centers for subtle dimension) and arrange together in the middle of the Rust panel. Cut the Kraft brown leafy branches into 2 pieces each and use liquid glue to add them around the outer edges of the the floral arrangement. Use liquid glue to adhere the “happy” embellishment across the upper left of the rust panel and the “thanksgiving” embellishment across the lower edge. For a finishing touch, add small dots of red, orange and yellow dimensional drops around the arrangement and words. Enjoy!
