Oh JOY!

November 9, 2018

Hello friends,

The holiday season is creeping up on us and will be here before we know it.  To help celebrate the holiday season I’ve put together a little container to remind us of what it is all about: JOY!

This little project is fun to put together – so let’s get started.

I used a small 4″ diameter container that I found in my stash, but you could make this project with nearly any size or style of box with a lid.  I have also added little wooden feet, but you can make feet from something else or skip them if you prefer.

Step 1.  Begin by selecting papers and dies:

Papers –

It’s Christmas Time from

Xmas Vintage Christmas

Dies –

Stitched Circles

Dotted Scallop Circles

Christmas Flower

Holiday Garlands 2

Step 2.  Create glitter paper using White Soft Finish Cardstock, Double Sided Adhesive and Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter.

Step 3.  Cut Holiday Garland pieces from glitter paper (enough pieces to go around the sides of the box.)

For more information on Silk Microfine Glitter review this tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs YouTube Channel.

Step 4.  Paint box or container.

Step 5.  Cover container with paper. The inside will show when opened, so finish the inside as well.

Step 6.  Decorate with garland.

Step 7.  Optional: Add feet. Add rhinestones to the snowflakes.

Step 8.  Using the Christmas Flower die set, cut several layers from red cardstock. Use only the dies that fit the lid of your container.

Step 9.  Cut one additional layer from green cardstock for the leaves.

Step 10.  Using the Susan’s Garden Flower Making Set, crease and fold all the leaves.

Step 11.  Layer and adhere the flower, alternating the points.

Step 12.  For the center, drill a hole and add a knob (this one from Tim Holtz), or choose a different option.

(If using the knob shown with the number of layers shown, the green leaves will need to be cut apart and glued separately. Alternatively, use fewer red layers.)

For the inside:

Step 13.  Using the small Dotted Scallop Circles die, cut 6 small circles.

Step 14.  Using the Stitched Circles die, cut 6 circles from red to create a border for circles from Step 13.

Step 15.  Using the Blackboard Alphabet die set, cut letters to spell the word JOY (two of each letter).

Step 16.  Layer and adhere the circles and letters. Place back-to-back on the ribbon so the strip is double-sided and the letters are one on top of the other (not side by side).

Step 17.  Using Double Sided Adhesive – attach one end of the ribbon to the  inside of lid and attach the other end to the bottom of the box. When the lid is lifted, the word will be vertical.

If you find a wonderful container or box in your stash that you’ve saved, now is the time to break it out and make something fun. If not, they’re inexpensive and easy to find.

See you again soon,

Sandy
