Always Blossom

July 22, 2022

Hi crafty friends…Michelle here sharing a fun mixed media card! For this I used the a super fun and whimsical Flower Blossom Die from the Art Journal Collection. This die really is quite versatile. Not only is it a fun flower blossom, but I can definitely picture it as a glittery snowflake too! Let’s save that second one for another day.

Step #1 – To begin I added some opaque texture paste to a piece of mixed media cardstock using the Waves Stencil. I didn’t apply an even layer, as I did not want a full coverage over my cardfront. I immediately took both the palette knife and stencil and cleaned them off while the paste was still wet.

Step #2 – Next I sprinkled on some Uncharted Mariner Distress Glaze while the paste was still wet and then used my heat embossing tool to dry both the paste and glaze. I set that aside for a few minutes more to ensure it was fully dry.

Step #3 – I then added 3 different colours of pigment powders….a yellow and 2 blues. I think I added a bit more than I needed, but oh well lol. Next to activate it I added some water, first with a paintbrush and then finished it with a few light spritzes using a spray bottle.

I used a papertowel to dab any areas I felt had a bit too much water or powder. I love how vibrant the colours are. They do soften a bit as they dry, but they are truly gorgeous and they have a beautiful metallic sheen to them.

Step #4 – Next I cut 2 of the Flower Blossoms, first from white and then a mustard yellow colour. These layer up beautifully and you don’t lose any of the gorgeous detail when you do. I used a liquid adhesive to adhere them together but only added the glue in the center of the them, so as to try and have a bit of dimension.

Step #5 – For the sentiment I used the word Blossom from the stamp set of the same name….Blossom. I thought this was perfect for it. I diecut it 3 times to help to make it pop with the coordinating die. I trimmed my stencilled cardstock down to 3.75″x5″. The paper did get a bit warped as I used heat on it and also as it is not a true watercolour paper and the water added helped to contribute to it as well. To help to flatten it out, I ran it through my laminator a few times, as the heat and pressure from it will help to flatten it.

Step #6 – To finish it off, I added some flecks of white and black gouache concentrating on the stencilled part with the pigment powder as best I could. I then ran around the edges with black marker, to add a bit of definition and added it all to an A2 card base. I added the layered blossoms to the right hand side and trimmed off any excess overhang on the side of the card and then added my sentiment to the middle of the blossom.

I really love how fun this is and the flower blossom is really fun too! Like I said above I can totally see this as a gorgeous snowflake too! I love versatile products like that and how your creativity is only limited by your imagination!

I hope you have enjoyed my card today and that it helps to inspire you! I wish you all the most wonderful day and until next time,
