Els van de Burgt Studio

Class of 2016

March 25, 2016

Hi, It’s Sandy Diller here today to share a project with you that is all about using what you already own in a creative way.  I just love Els’s new patterned cardstock “Through the Lens”, and I’m always on the lookout for ways to use it. Our grandson is graduating from High School in June and I wanted a way to display his photo that honors the occasion.  I found an unfinished wooden frame in my stash that I decided to use.

Hello Cards

February 11, 2016

Hello everybody, Sanna here again with my first post for February. When I first saw the Ribbons 1, Ropes 1, Chains 1 and Jewels 1 die sets I immediately wanted to create with them. They are so very versatile and can be used for so many kinds of projects! I chose to die cut some Clear Double Sided Adhesive with them and then cover those pieces with Silk Microfine Glitter. Boy, does that combination look fantastic!!!

You R a Gem

December 20, 2015

Gem-B

By Judi Kauffman

It’s Judi Kauffman, back as guest designer on the blog. Today, it’s all about the ‘bling’ – a pair of cards to tell a friend ‘You R a Gem!’

I created this duo to help introduce Els van de Burgt Studio Chains 1 and Stitched Circles dies. It’s a peek at two of the sets that will debut at CHA, the annual trade show in Anaheim, January 2016.

They’re sized for a #10 business envelope; long, narrow cards, one with a left-side fold, one with a top-fold. This shape provides lots of space for chains, bracelets, and charms or a big, glitzy pendant!

Only 3 easy steps – Cut, Arrange, Embellish:

  1. Cut. Back Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape and die cut the Chains 1 strips needed for each card and a Stitched Circle (smallest in the set) for each pendant card. Reminder: A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video HERE if you are new to this technique.
  1. Arrange. To make the pendant card: Position the two chains and circle on a vertical side-fold card base measuring 4.25” x 9.25”. To make the necklace and bracelets card: Position the chains as shown, on the diagonal, on a piece of cardstock measuring 9” x 3.5”. Crop chains at the edges as needed. Add the rectangle to a 4.25” x 9.25” horizontal top-fold card base made from contrasting cardstock.

  1. Embellish. Add assorted flat-backed gems to the pendant, bracelets and necklace. If gems are not adhesive-backed, use tiny pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to secure them. Complete the cards by spelling out the words ‘You R a Gem’ in fine scale curly, curvy purchased alphabet stickers. Other options: Die cut or hand-letter the sentiment.
