Clean and simple cards with basic dies

Hello everyone, it’s Sanna here today with another guest design team project. This card idea originated from a wish to have a die that could cut chevron type backgrounds, which I didn’t own. But then I figured, I actually could use my existing dies to create a chevron pattern as a card background. And while I die cut the “chevrons”, I had plenty of pieces left to create two more fun cards. So one basic idea led to a set of cards that I’m quite happy with.

Here is how I created this card:

Step 1: I first die cut “frames” with the Stitched Rectangles die set by using the largest and the third largest die from the set. This way I had a bigger frame than if I had used the next to largest with the biggest size. I picked yummy, summery pastel cardstock for die cutting. I also kept the stitched rectangle pieces for later. You will see how I used them on the two cards to follow.
Step 2: After die cutting the frames I then took a card base and arranged the corners onto it in such manner, that they formed a “chevron” and marked the edges with a pencil. This way it was easier to know where to cut later. After that I just adhered the piece onto the card base with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Out of each frame I got two bigger parts for the chevron pattern and I also saved the smaller ones for the lower and the higher corners. So for this size of a card you only need 4 frames in total.

Step 3: After adhering all the corners onto the card base I took the Planner Essentials 21 “Note Pieces” set and die cut a focal point for the card from black cardstock.

Step 4: I then added a stamped and embossed sentiment using the Planner Essentials “Remember” stamp set with neon green embossing powder. After that I just adhered the sentiment with 3D foam onto the card to create more texture and interest. For finishing touches I added a few craft drops for decor. The residue pieces then let to the second card:

For this one I did the following steps with the residue papers I had left over from my first card:

Step 1 to 3: I placed the stitched rectangle cardstock pieces onto my die cutting machine and places a stitched oval die onto the middle of them and die cut 4 pieces to create the oval background piece for the next card. After that I took a leftover strip of the light blue cardstock and attached Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet onto it and die cut two “Budding Florals” for the card.

I then adhered the flowers on place, applied some liquid adhesive and loose golden glitter onto the upper area of the buds and let that dry. After the adhesive was dry, I just tabbed the residue glitter off. For the sentiment I used the General Sentiments stamp set with white embossing powder and a piece of black cardstock that was die cut with the Fitted Fishtail dies. Very easy, but still very colorful thanks to the multi-colored background piece. This then led to my last card project:

For this card I used the final stitched rectangle pieces, as shown in the steps here:

Step 1 to 3: I arranged the leftover pieces from the previous card onto the card base and cut them into size so that they filled the whole background. Then I die cut a focal piece from white cardstock using the Stitched Circles die cut die. I stamped and embossed a sentiment (using General Sentiments) and florals (using the Spring Fling stamp set) and golden as well as light green and pink embossing powders.

After embossing I inked the circle light yellow with Distress Ink. Next I die cut a piece of golden glitter carstock with the Scalloped stitched circle die to place under the sentiment piece and finished the focal piece off with some Fitted Fishtail dies.

So one idea led to a set of three fun cards and I basically worked with the same paper pieces from start to finish. Here are some close-ups of the finished cards:

Hogs & Kisses

Hello friends, it’s Sandy Diller and I’m here to share an anniversary card I made for my husband. It is our 57th year together and we don’t usually celebrate or give each other a gift but this year I thought it would be fun to make him a card. I just love Joset’s farm animals and I especially like the little pig. So – Hogs & Kisses!

This is a slimline card so I cut my pink cardstock 9″ X 8″ and scored it in the center to make a 9″ X 4″ finished card.

After cutting a white panel, 8.75″ X 3.75″, and printed panel, 8.50″ X 3.50″, I then layered them together. Using the fitted circle die set I cut 3 holes across the two panels and then added them on top of the pink card. Be sure to leave enough room around the inside of the circle to place the pigs in later.

Next the cute little pigs were cut and assembled placing their feet, ears and tails in different positions. To make the eyes stand out I used Craft Drops. To decorate the opening, I used a die from one of the journaling sets cutting it three times.

The pigs were placed in the opening and glued down. Using the “Life Is Better On The Farm” stamp set – stamp Hogs & Kisses in the center opening. Finish off the card by placing some random hearts all around. On the inside I just placed a white panel so I could write a personal message.

Miss you, Mom! – card

Hello, It’s Sanna Lippert here again today with my monthly guest design team project. Now, I haven´t seen my mom since Christmas 2019 due to the pandemic, so for this Mother’s Day I made a card that says what I feel. I could imagine that there are other people out there who a dealing with the same problem, so I thought I’d share this card with you all today. But if you would rather like to say that you love your mom, then just change the sentiment. Easy!

For this card, I’ve created an easy-to-follow photo step-by-step. Here is how you can create this card:

Step 1: Start by die cutting 3 sets of the Ginko leaves from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 2: Use green, yellow and pink Distress Ink tones and ink the die cut Ginko leaves.

Step 3: Cut a piece of blue cardstock to fit your card base size. Then adhere the inked Ginko leaves onto the blue cardstock either with Clear Double Sided Adhesive or liquid glue – whatever you prefer. Next cut off all excess pieces with scissors.

Step 4: Take a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock and using the Build Your Own Sentiment 1 stamp set, stamp the word “mom” with black ink onto it.

Step 5: Take a piece of white foam rubber and attach it onto Clear Double Sided Adhesive sheet, then take the Blackboard Alphabet die set and die cut the words “miss” and “you” with your die cutting machine. Arrange and adhere the words onto the background piece. Then fussy cut the word mom into a suitable size and add Craft Drops for decor. When the drops are dry, adhere the piece onto a card base. I also stamped and fussy cut a little heart from the same stamp set and added it to the card, but that is totally optional.

This is how the finished card looks like. And it is still flat enough to put into the mail! I hope my mom likes the card and I hope you enjoyed this little card tutorial. And like always, by changing the sentiment and the colours you can use the same basic idea for different occations!

Cardmaking Inspiration from the Design Team Joset Designs

Watercolor Spring

Hey Friends! It’s EK and today I am playing around with Joset’s die cut building scene Once Upon A Time die set and some watercolors. I have over the years successfully created with copic markers and die cut built pieces. I have played around with colored pencils, distress inks, and distress oxides with success. Well, today I am breaking out my watercolor palette and seeing if I can be successful once again.

Step One: Die cut the Once Upon A Time die set out of Watercolor paper.

Step Two: Using ECD’s Watercolor Palette, watercolor the die cut pieces.

Step Three: Using liquid adhesive, build the die cut pieces into their images. I used Kids Choice Glue.

Step Four: Using a piece of watercolor paper, create a watercolor background scene that is simple but shows both sky and grass. Let dry. Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Tape adhere the background to an A2 card frame.

Step Five: Adhere the mushroom and clouds to the background.

Step Six: Layer the rest of the die cut pieces into the scene.

Step Seven: Add a sentiment from the Once Upon A Time sentiment stamp set in pale blue ink.

Step Eight: To add more texture to the project, add Transparent Craft Drops onto the butterfly, reeds and flower center.

Step Nine: The card needed even more texture to ground everything, so using watercolor pencils, flick in grass blades in two shades of green.

Step Ten: Activate the grass with a watercolor brush to blend out the flicks.

Cards in candy colours

Hello everyone, it´s Sanna here again today with another guest design team project share. For a couple of days we´ve had beautiful sunshiny weather here in Austria and I am very much in spring mood already. Thus, a set of easy-to-do, candy coloured cards is my project share for today.

The first card is very simple to do, but due to the used dies, still creates a lovely layered and detailed look.

Here are the steps for this card:

Step 1: Take a piece of each (yellow, light blue, grey, pink and light green) Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut one piece of the Junk Journal Extras dies in each colour.

Step 2: Now take the smaller flower dies from the Tropical Florals die set and die cut the flower with pink, yellow and grey Soft Finish Cardstock.
Step 3: Next adhere the die cut pieces onto a white card base overlappingly and arrange the flower to the upper left corner for decoration.

Step 4: Finally, take a piece of kraft carstock and heat emboss a sentiment with white embossing powder using one of the sentiment in the Build Your Own Sentiments 1 set. For additional decor, add a few craft drops next to the sentiment.

For the second card, you will additionally need a few stamp inks to create the background, but other than that, we are sticking to the same Tropical Flowers die set and the candy coloured cardstock selection.

Here are the steps to this card:

Step 1: Die cut a strip of paper with the Adventure Edges die and create a cloud background to a white card base with it by applying yellow and light pink ink using the die cut border as a stencil.

Step 2: After that apply some ink droplets with the light pink tone onto the background for a fun additional detail. Use a paint brush or a water tank brush for this purpose.


Step 3: Die cut two leaves and one flower with the Tropical Flowers die set from the same Soft Finish Cardstock tones used on the first card.

Step 4: Arrange the leaves and the flower onto the right lower corner of the card and adhere on place. Then add a stamped sentiment with black stamp ink and the Build Your Own Sentiments 1 stamp set.

Step 5: For finishing touches add a few Craft Drops to the background.

Also if you are not into pastel tones, feel free to try out this set in primary colours or in more neutral tones. Changing the cardstock colours will give you a totally different look!

Stamped ‘Printed’ Paper

Hey Friends! It’s EK, and I have a little secret to confess. I don’t buy much printed paper or cardstock. I know…gasp. The truth is when I do buy printed paper, I tend to hoard it and never use it for fear of wasting it. So, to prevent the build up of unused paper, I simply don’t buy it. But that leaves a lot of my crafting projects pretty bland. So I simply stamp my printed papers, and then I always get what I want. And frankly I have found that designer Ilse and Charlene’s stamps are perfect for my stamped ‘printed’ paper.

Step One: Pick two pieces of coordinating cardstock and die cut it with the Stitched Indented Rectangle die set so it can be layered. I went ahead and die cut the centers out of my base pieces so that I didn’t waste good paper.

Step Two: On the largest base piece, blend ink over the paper using the Story Telling stencil. I used Tea Dye Distress Oxide because it was only a shade darker than the paper and would be subtle.

Step Three: On the smaller base piece, I hand stamped floral and fauna from the Spring Fling stamp set. I used both Abandoned Coral and Crushed Olive Distress Oxide to create this print.

Step Four: Adhere the two layers together using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Adhere the base layers to an A2 card frame.

Step Five: On the large focal panel, hand stamp images from both the Spring Fling stamp set and the Words & Layers stamp set. Again I used Abandoned Coral and Crushed Olive Distress Oxide to coordinate the ‘paper’ with the layer below.

Step Six: On the smallest die cut panel, pull out the Story Telling stencil again and the original ink color and blend the ink through the cut outs.

Step Seven: Adhere the two smaller die cuts to the larger two with 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive forming the layers of the card.

Step Eight: To finish the card, stamp an image from the Poppy Dream stamp set onto some watercolor paper. I used Tea Dyed Distress Oxide.

Step Nine: Using some coordinating water-soluble ink, watercolor in the poppy. I used both Abandoned Coral and Crushed Olive Distress Oxide.

Step Ten: Fussy cut out the image and adhere it to the card frame using a liquid adhesive.

Step Eleven: Using a stamping platform, stamp the sentiment onto the card from the Words & Layers stamp set. I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink and adore how the letting of the sentiment matches the style of the stencil.

Step Twelve: Finish the card by adding Transparent Crystal Craft Drops to both the flower petals and the sentiment. Let Dry.

And just check out how gorgeous the floral image becomes with the Craft Drops on it. It turns out stunning!

Cardmaking Craft Drops Inspiration from the Design Team Joset Designs

Zen Leaves

Hey Friends! It’s Ek and I am back with a duo of cards playing around with the Leaf Pattern Background die. I have been really enjoying background die lately, and wanting to see how much you can push what you can do with them. Today, I am sharing how you can use your background die cuts as stencils to create unique looks.

Step One: Using 110lb Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut the Leaf Pattern Background die. You want the heaviest cardstock you can die cut for the technique I am using today.

Step Two: Lay the die cut over an A2 card frame and then press Nuvo Mousse (or any heavy opaque paste) through the openings of the die cut piece. I also made certain to fill the edges of the card frame.

Step Three: Use a combination of colors to fill the whole card frame. Let set up for just a couple of minutes.

Step Four: Before the mousse (or paste) fully cures, carefully peel the die cut stencil up from the card frame. If you are careful enough, you will now have both the positive and negative image. Adhere the die cut image to a separate A2 card frame.

Step Five: On a piece of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock blend a combination of green inks. I used Bundled Sage, Mowed Lawn, and Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide. Die cut the cardstock with the Bamboo die set. Set aside.

Step Six: On a second piece of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock, blend shades of blue and black ink. I used Stormy Weather, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot Distress Inks. Die cut the blended cardstock with the Symbol Background die. Die cut a second Symbol Background die out of white cardstock.

Step Seven: Using a liquid adhesive, adhere the inked Symbol Background to the die cut Leaf Background. Adhere one of the Bamboo die cuts over that.

Step Eight: Adhere the white Symbol Background over the stenciled card frame. Adhere the other Bamboo die cut.

Step Nine: Using scrapes from the inked cardstock, stamp sentiment from the Zen Sentiments stamp set. Trim the sentiment strip to fit the cards.

Step Ten: Adhere the first sentiment with three dimensional tape. Accent it with Pearl Olive Craft Drops.

Step Eleven: Adhere the second sentiment with three dimensional tape and accent it with Metallic Silver Craft Drops.

Here is the first card using the Leaf Pattern Background as a stencil.

A Way With Words Cardmaking Silk Microfine Glitter

Hey Everyone! It’s EK, and I am popping in with a little black and white number today. It is amazing how keeping your color pallate simple, you can create a project with tons of impact. There is just something so classic about black and white, the sentiment dies from Suzanne really shine.

Step One: Trim a piece of black card stock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Layer with 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. I used my crafting surface to help up the adhesive.

Step Two: Trim off excess tape and die cut cardstock with Stitched Indented Rectangle die set.

Step Three: Peel off top adhesive paper and pour Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over it.

Step Four: Adhere cardstock to an A2 card frame using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

Step Five: Die cut A Way With Words You Are Perfect die set twice, once in black and once in white 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Six: Adhere the white die cut over the black die cut and adhere both to the cardstock using liquid adhesive. I used Kids Choice Glue.

Step Seven: Finally add a few Craft Drops in White to the project. I used the drops to hide my glue flaws.

I know this card is incredibly simply but I feel it is in itself just perfect. Let us know in the comments below if you like using a black and white color palette as well. Until then, happy crafting.

Christmas Pine Cone name tags

Good morning!
I hope you are all ready for the Holiday Season and enjoying this festive time of year!
I love creating Off The Page Projects and I made these as name tags for gifts inspired by Els Christmas Ornaments! (you can find it here)

To create these:
Step 1 – select your pinecone and add snow paste to the edges
Step 2 – create 3 poinsettia’s using the Christmas Accents die set, ink edges, add glitter to edges and assemble with one large leaf
Step 3 – die cut many different pieces using different shades of green cardstock from the Create A Wreath, ink edges and use the red craft drops for berries and allow to dry
Step 4 – glue a loop of ribbon onto the top of the acorns to create the hanger

Reindeer tag
Step 1 – die cut a tag (using your favorite ECD tag die) and ink the edges and add a loop of ribbon
Step 2 – die cut Holly Jolly from Planner Essentials 15 using Double Sided Adhesive Sheets, add True Red Silk Microfine Glitter and adhere to the tag
Step 3- die cut, ink edges and assemble the Reindeer and adhere to the tag
Step 4 – adhere the tag to the pinecone

Step 5 – Adhere some of the wreath pieces cascading from the top of the pinecone
Step 6 – Tie a bow and adhere to the top of pinecone
Step 7 – add one of the completed poinsettias and add more snow texture paste

Birdhouse
Step 1 – die cut, ink and assemble the Holiday Bird House using double sided adhesive and Cool Diamond Silk Mircrofine Glitter for the snow and Craft Drops for the lights
Step 2 – adhere a piece of ribbon to the back of the house and adhere the other side to the top of the pine cone


Step 3 – adhere in a falling cascade some of the wreath pieces you previously die cut
Step 4 – adhere one of the assembled poinsettias to the top of the pine cone and add more snow texture paste

Jingle Bell
Step 1 – loop a piece of ribbon through the top of the jingle bell that you added some snow texture to, so it hangs slightly below the pine cone


Step 2 – die cut a gift from the Flourished Christmas Minis using cardstock (ink the edges) and double sided adhesive and glitter and assemble with a loop of ribbon and adhere to cone

Step 3 – cascade many pieces of the wreath that you die cut earlier, overlapping as needed
Step 4 – add a poinsettia to the top


Step 5 – add more snow texture
Step 6 – add your recipients name to the ornaments

A Way With Words Craft Drops Home Decor Silk Microfine Glitter

Merry Christmas Wishes

Hello and Happy Holidays, it’s Sandy Diller here with a fun project that lights up to add some cheer. I used the Create A Wreath die set to add a festive feel to this canvas. I got this preprinted canvas at my favorite big box craft store and I’ve had it in my stash for quite some time – it measures 8″ square and is 2″ wide.
The first thing I did was to add some gold embossing powder to the edges. I did this by placing VersaMark ink around the edges in a random pattern. I then added gold embossing power to the ink, knocked off the excess and then heat set the power with a heat gun.

I cut a circle using two dies from the fitted circles to make a pattern. I knew I could never make a perfect circle without a guide. I glued the guide to the center of the canvas and then began making some small holes for the lights to poke through. I used the Tim Holtz Tiny Lights and there are 20 lights on the string that is battery operated.

The next step was to cut all the branches and leaves. I cut 18 of each from the set. On the branches I added some craft drops that I made previously. I love using the craft dots but hate waiting for them to dry. I save the release paper from my ECD Double Sided Adhesive and then use it to make my drops ahead of time. Once the drops are dry they come right off the paper and then can be glued onto the project. By doing it this way, everything is where you want it with no boo boos.

I poked the lights into the holes and then used a small amount of hot glue to hold them in place. I first tried tape but it didn’t stick to the canvas. It’s not pretty but it gets the job done.

I layered the leaves on the guide, placed a Merry Christmas in the center that was first cut from fun foam to give it dimension and then added a Merry Christmas that was cut from hand made glitter paper – created using the Silk Microfine Glitter and double sided adhesive. I finished it off with a festive bow.
