Happy Hippo Birthday Card

June 16, 2019

Hi Everyone, it’s Tina here.

Today I am sharing a card using the new Hippo/Rhino character dies from Joset Designs. I decided on a simple background to showcase the Hippo.

Below you will find the steps to create your own card.

Step 1 – Trim Silver Grey Soft Finish Cardstock to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″ and fold in half for a horizontal side fold card. (A2)

Step 2 – Trim Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock to 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″. Adhere to card front using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 3 – Apply Alcohol Pearl Ink onto Yupo Paper. I used Tranquil and mixed it with an Alcohol Blending Solution. Let dry thoroughly. Trim to 5″ x 3 3/4″. Adhere to card using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 4 – Diecut Hippo/Rhino using Coloured Cardstock or White Soft Finish Cardstock and color in Hippo using Alcohol Markers. I used Tri-Blends. Assemble the Hippo using Kid’s Choice Glue. Adhere to card using Foam Tape.

Step 5 – Diecut Happy Birthday using White Soft Finish Cardstock. To create the shadow place the die on black cardstock and trace the outline using a pencil. Fussy cut it out. Adhere to diecut to the shadow cut out then adhere to card using Kid’s Choice Glue.

Step 6 – Stamp Build Your Own Sentiment using Versamark on Black Cardstock. Sprinkle White Embossing Powder and remove the excess, heat set it using a heat tool. Trim and adhere to card using Foam Tape.

Step 7 – Optional – For added interest and sparkle apply some CrystalNuvo Drops.

The Hippo is such a fun character and I just love his tongue! Don’t you?

This card can be used for many occasions by changing the sentiment and colors. Below is a link to all the products used. Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

August 9, 2016

Hello everyone, Sanna here again. Who does not know the situation, when you suddenly need a nice birthday card, but have nothing ready? And you really don’t want to buy one from the store, as you can create ones yourself. How about bold cardstock strips on a white background? This is what I came up with when I needed to create two birthday cards really quickly:
