December Snowflakes

August 19, 2022

Hi friends! Michelle here today sharing a mixed media card using the new Art Journal Holiday Special Kit. This kit is filled with so many different elements that all work together beautifully, but alot of them can also be used outside of the the winter season too. Shall we get started?

Step 1: On a piece of watercolour paper sprinkle on some pigment powders and spritz with water to allow them to move and blend a bit….watercolours will also work perfectly in place of the powders. Allow it to dry and soak up any excess amounts of water with a paper towel.

Step 2: Cut the large snowflake from the dried watercolour paper and rub on some clear distress crackle paint on random areas with a paintbrush or your finger. Set aside and allow to dry.

Step 3: Add some clear glitter gel to random spots on the snowflake leaving some areas untouched where you added the crackle paint. Once that is dry, blend on some dark blue Distress Oxide ink, to add some depth and as well to highlight the dried crackle paint.

Step 4: On another piece of watercolour paper add pigment powders in different shades of brown or using watercolour paints. Once dry cut out 2 of the birch trees. Also cut out a partial 3rd tree, but focusing on the top right branch, as some tree surgery will be done lol.

Step 5: For the background, add a light watercolour wash in shades of blue, pink and brown or use pigment powders very lightly. Once dry add some texture paste using the dotted stencil from the Earth Patterns Stencil pack. Allow to dry and then add a light layer of watercolour in the 2 corners using co-ordinating colours of pink, blue and brown. Cut out 3 of the December word die from the kit in black cardstock and adhere the 3 together.

Step 6: To complete it add some paint flecks using a black gouache all over. Adhere one tree directly to the panel then the snowflake slightly off the paper on the right side. Cut off any bits that hang off. Adhere the 2nd tree over the snowflake on the left side. Add the stack of 3 December die-cuts over the lower half of the snowflake and add it all to a piece of craft foam on an A2 cardbase.

I hope that you have enjoyed my card for today and it helps to inspire you. Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you all the most wonderful and crafty day!

Until next time, Michelle
