The Party Train

July 21, 2022

Hello crafty friends, it’s Summer Hills-Painter here. I absolutely LOVE the new monster collection from Joset Designs. Today I am sharing a card that I created using the collection.

Preparation:

For the card base, cut a piece of cardstock to 10″ x 7″ and score at 5″. Also cut a piece of white soft finish cardstock to 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″. Cut out the fence from the Slimline Adventure Edges in both black cardstock and woodgrain cardstock. Also cut the shrub edge from a scrap piece of cardstock to use as a stencil in later steps. Using Monster 1 and Monster 3, cut and assemble your characters out of your favorite colors of cardstock. For added depth and dimension, ink the edges of each body piece with a coordinating ink. Also add party hats from the Party Time die set. For fun, you can cut the hat out of multiple colors, cut some of the hats along the embossed lines and adhere to a base hat. Finally cut and assemble the Holiday Train and Train Carts out of party themed cardstock.

Instructions:
Using piece of cardstock cut with the shrub die, place on your card front and lightly ink above using a light blue ink and your favorite blending tool. Shift the stencil down and lightly ink again. Continue the process until your reach your horizon line. Flip your stencil to the straight edge and use as a mask for your inked sky background. Ink the exposed bottom portion of the card front with green ink. For extra dimension, you can use 3 green inks ranging from light to dark and blend a grassy bottom portion of the card. For this card, some water droplets were also added.

For the railroad track, adhere the black diecut fence upside down with the points hanging off of the edge of the card front.

Cut apart the fence posts from the woodgrain cardstock and adhere to the corresponding black fence posts on the card front. Flip the card front over and trim off the excess fence pieces hanging over the edge. Using a silver pen, place two dots top and bottom on the wood pieces for the railroad nails. Optional, use a green pen to flick blades of grass on the green portion of the card front.

Adhere the Holiday Train and Holiday Carts to your railroad track.

Cut the Monster Hugs and Let’s Party stamps in half to creat a new stamp saying Monster Party. Do not worry, you will still be able to use the stamps in the original word design for later projects.

Adhere your cardfront to your card base. Put your monsters in the train carts. Optional, for a smoke effect from the train engine, cut the train icing die from grey cardstock and adhere as if coming out of the engin

It’s Your Birthday Mini Slimline Card

January 11, 2022

Happy New Year!, it’s Tina here with my first post for 2022. I’m starting off the New Year with 2 promises I made in 2021. Turning the Holiday Train into a train that can be used all year round and turning the Scarecrow into a Raggedy Ann doll. Below are the steps to create your own card.

Step 1 – Trim White Soft Finish to 7″ x 6″, score at 3 1/2″ and fold in half for a horizontal top fold card. (Mini Slimline)

Step 2 – Trim Stitched Indented Rectangles using White Soft Finish Cardstock. To turn it into a mini slimline size diecut partial leaving on end out. Turn it around and align it with the diecut and finish it with the end in and the other end out. Whatever is out of the cutting plate will not diecut. See photo below.

Step 3 – Apply Ink to the panel created in Step 2. I used Distress Oxide Ink Tumbled Glass using a Blender Brush. Fade it out towards the bottom.

Step 4 – Stamp Life Is Better On The Farm sentiment using the panel created from Step 2 using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. Adhere to card front using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 5 – Diecut Scarecrow in various colors of cardstock and clothes using patterned paper. If you have the Party Accessories then diecut party hat and adhere to scarecrow head using Kids Choice Glue. If you don’t you can always cut a triangle and add a tiny pompom. For the balloon you can always use a small circle die and use a piece of yarn for the balloon cord.

Step 6 – Diecut Holiday Train and Train Card using various colors of cardstock. Assemble using Kid’s Choice Glue and adhere to card using Foam Tape. Adhere to Raggedy Ann and Balloon using Foam Tape. (You may need to trim the Raggedy Ann as per my card).

This card can be used for several occasions by changing the colors and/or sentiment. Below is a link to all the products used. Thank you for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Gnomes and Holiday Trains

November 29, 2021

Karen here. I’m having so much fun with the new release from Joset. Today I made a couple simple and sweet holiday cards using the Gnomes and the Holiday Train die sets. Love putting together these designs from Joset. It reminds me of playing with paper dolls when I was a kid – so fun and relaxing!

To start these cards, I cut two card fronts from 90 lb Soft Finish Cardstock. I also cut a 6″x6″ piece of patterned cardstock in a 4″ inch strip and a 2″ inch strip. I adhered them to the card fronts in a diagonal way. On one of them, I also cut a 3/4″ strip of Soft Finish Cardstock and stamped a sentiment on it from the stamp set in the Classic Christmas Set. For the other, I stamped the sentiment right on the card front. Then I die cut one with a Stitched Rounded Rectangle and the other with a Stitched Indented Rectangle die.

For the Gnome girl, I cut her dress and hat with red cardstock, and her shoes, collar and bows with green cardstock. I colored her skin with a Copic E00 and her hair with a Copic Y23. I added a few presents as embellishments. The hearts are also in the Gnomes dies, and I thought they were the perfect little addition in the corner.

The Holiday Train is cut with a combination of 90 lb Soft Finish Cardstock, green cardstock and Kraft Cardstock. (The darker brown has Distress Ink in Tea Dye added to it. The fun “trick” to making assembly easy is to add 101mm Double Sided Adhesive to the pieces that are on top. What a great way to turn the die cut into a sticker.

So easy; so fun. Thank you for stopping by today.

Craftily yours, Karen
