How To Create A Christmas Card Using Planner Essentials Dies

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Merry Christmas Card.

I love the fact that the Planner Essentials dies can be used for more than just my planner spreads. So, to create my card, I’ve used a variety of dies from the Planner Essentials collection, Joset Designs and Els van de Burgt Studio. I hope you enjoy my tutorial!

Step One. You’ll need to choose two patterned papers from the Christmas Market Collection. Die cut the 4 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle out of one of the patterned papers. Die cut the 4″ Stitched Rectangle out of the other patterned paper. Distress the edges of the rectangles. Ink the edges of the rectangles using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. Use the reverse side of the patterned paper used on the 4 1/2″ stitched rectangle and die cut the 1″ Diagonal Stitched Fishtails out of. Choose another piece of patterned paper from the Christmas Market collection and die cut the 1 1/2″ Diagonal Stitched Fishtails out the paper. Cut the 1″ fishtail down to 4 1/4″. Cut the 1 1/2″ fishtail down to 4 3/4″. Distress the edges of each fishtail. Ink the edges of each fishtail using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Three. Die cut two base trees and each patterned tree from the Planner Essentials – 12 die out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. The chevron tree will stay white. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Fired Brick Distress Ink over the entire surface of the dotted tree. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Forest Moss Distress Ink over the entire surface of both base trees. Ink the edges of the base trees and dotted tree using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Four. From the same Planner Essentials – 12 die, die cut a small star and medium star out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam over the entire surface of each star. Ink the edges of each star using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Five. From the Planner Essentials – 14 die, die cut the Merry Christmas sentiment out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Six. Adhere the 4″ stitched rectangle to the 4 1/2″ stitched rectangle. Foam square the 1 1/2″ fishtail 1″ from the right and all the way to the top of the 4″ stitched rectangle. Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the 1″ fishtail 7/8″ from the left and all the way to the top of the 4″ stitched rectangle. The fishtails will over lap.

Step Seven. Adhere the trees together. On the dotted tree, adhere the small star at the top. On the chevron tree, adhere the medium star at the top. Foam square the chevron tree 1/4″ from the right and 5/8″ from the bottom of the 4″ stitched rectangle. Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the dotted tree 1/2″ from the left and 3/8″ from the bottom of the 4″ stitched rectangle.

Step Eight. Adhere the Merry to the middle of the dotted tree. Adhere the Christmas to the bottom section of the dotted tree. The Christmas word will hang slightly off the left side of the tree and will adhere to the chevron tree.

Step Nine. Cut a cardbase out of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 3/4″ x 9″, score at 4 1/2″. Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Puppy Love

Hello everyone and welcome, Sandy here. It’s hard to believe that in a few short weeks Santa will be loading up his sleigh and getting ready for the big night. It’s time to make all the preparations so we’re ready for the big guy to arrive. Today I want to share a fun and festive tree ornament that can be made in a short time and it’s lots of fun for the kids to do as well. A nice project for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Here is my tutorial:

I began with the adorable Dog die. After cutting out all the pieces using the Elizabeth Craft Designs Velvet Paper, they were edged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and assembled as shown above. The die makes the crease lines for the mouth and snout, using a black marker simply follow the outline. The eyes and nose are Nuvo Drops but they can be easily made by using the marker for them as well. I used the Santa Hat from the Santa Claus die set. The hat was placed on the pup before adding the ears.

The snowbanks were made by cutting a circle from the Fitted Circle die set and then cut into sections using the Adventure Edges.

For the frame of the wreath I used a 4″ embroidery hoop. The inside was painted white while the outside edges were painted green to match the pine boughs that will be added later.

The first snowbank was added to the back of the hoop and the rest were added in layers using foam tape between each layer.

Using the Fitted Circle die set – cut a backing piece (snowflake paper was used here).

The Santa’s Sleigh die set was used for the tree and gifts. Place your cute little pup where you want him and the start adding the other items as desired. Since the snowbanks were raised on foam tape, foam tape was also used at the back of the dog’s head. Use the top of one of the bows to add a bow on the neck of the dog.

You can use any greenery die that you happen to have in your collection. I cut 25 to go all the way around the 4″ hoop. Glue was added to the back (top portion only) of the bough and glued to the hoop. Each time a layer was added, the previous one was lifted up and the next one place under it.

Keep going until the hoop is completely covered. Tie a small bow and add to the top. If you plan to hang this ornament on your tree you will need an extra piece of ribbon for a loop at the top.

Thank you for joining me. You may also want to make this cute ornament into a shaker ornament. That is easy to do by adding shaker items on the inside and some clear acetate on the front of your ornament before you add the greenery.

It’s Tanja here again and I would like to show you how to create this Christmas tag step by step.

Step 1: Die Cutting and Stamping

die cut the larger tag from the Planner Essentials 2 die set from watercolor cardstock
stamp the branches from the Christmas Garden set with Distress Inks (Pine Needles, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss, Bundled Sage)

Step 2: Faux Watercolor

mist the whole panel with water –– don’t worry even though this looks a bit messy right now it will all turn out to be a beautiful background

Step 3: Embossing

stamp some more branches with Versamark and heat-emboss them with WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Super Fine embossing powder
add some embossing to the edges as well

Step 4: Sentiment and Finishing Touches

add some splatters with watered-down Distress Ink Pine Needles
stamp the sentiment from the Classic Christmas Sentiments set with Versamark onto a piece of torn vellum and heat-emboss it with that same gold embossing powder
dye a piece of torn seam binding with all those green Distress Inks and thread it through the hole of the tag
add some tiny gold stars around the sentiment

Merry Christmas Gift Tag

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Merry Christmas Gift Tag.

To create my gift tag, I’ve used a variety of dies from the Planner Essentials collection and Joset Designs. I hope you enjoy my tutorial!

Step One. Die cut the large tag from the Planner Essentials – 2 die and die cut it out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the script stamp from the Background Stamps 2 and stamp randomly seven times on the tag. Reapply ink to the stamp as needed. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the fraction stamp from the Background Stamps 1 and stamp randomly seven times on the tag. Reapply ink to the stamp as needed. Ink the edges of the tag using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. Die cut two wreaths from the Planner Pocket – 2 out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Three. From the Planner Essentials – 13 die, die cut the deer out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the entire surface of the deer.

Step Four. Choose a label from the Planner Labels die and then die cut it out of kraft cardstock. Apply Fired Brick Distress Ink to the Merry Christmas stamp from the Joyful Wishes stamp set and stamp onto the label. Ink the edges of the label using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Five. Adhere one of the wreaths to the middle of the tag. Adhere the other wreath over top of the previous adhered wreath, making sure the circles don’t line up.

Step Six. Foam square the deer to the middle of the wreath.

Step Seven. Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the Merry Christmas label to the right of the deer.

Step Eight. Tie a piece of twine to the top of the tag. To finish the label, use the Craft Drops – Metallic Silver to add two drops in the top left corner and three drops in the bottom right side of the label.

Sneak Peek: Flourished Deer!

I’m thrilled to introduce you to some of the brand new dies coming VERY soon to Elizabeth Craft Designs!

Meet the Flourished Deer – large enough to be a feature design on a card and yet leave room for lots of other embellishments if you wish. The Flourished Deer comes with a collar, a bell, an eye and a Rudolph nose should you wish to use it! It’s so versatile!

Sneak Peek With Falalalala

Have you started on your Christmas cards yet? It’s my favorite time of the year and I love making Christmas cards. Here’s one I made this week with a sneak peek of new dies from A Way With Words that will be available later this month.

How do you decorate your halls for Christmas?

I don’t know about you but in the years of cardmaking under my belt, I never once thought to alter designer paper. I used it as is or hoarded it. I will sponge the edges sometimes but it depends on the paper – the glossy ones don’t take to sponging very well. But I had a bit of an epiphany making this card.

The white die cut shows up better on the darker paper.

I knew I wanted to use this beautiful wood grain paper from Through the Lens paper stack but the white die cut got kind of lost in it. Normally, I would add a black drop shadow to it to help but then I decided to use a couple of Copic Markers in the tan/beige hue to darken it up just a bit while retaining all the lovely woodgrain. I simply colored the entire sheet with the markers. Aaah – now the (coming soon) Falalala die cut show up so much better.

I used 2 rectangle dies to trim down the paper – nesting the smaller die inside and then adding a black 1/16th inch matting to it. I popped that back in with the larger (now open) wood frame onto an A2 base card layer.

As you can see, I still went with a black die cut of Falalalala to add a drop shadow. The new Flourished Holly dies conveniently come in layers so I was able to do a Forest Green silk microfine glitter on the outline, Soft Green on the leaves, and Bright Cranberry for the berries.

I also added a white embossed “Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly” on black card stock in the upper left corner. Having all the words in white tied the card together nicely. Now tell me you didn’t look at that card and automatically sang the lyrics to yourself. 🙂 Thanks for looking and have fun making those Christmas cards!

A Way With Words Joset Designs Silk Microfine Glitter

All That Glitters!

Hi friends, it’s Sandy Diller back with you today to share a fun and easy way to add some glam to your holiday season!

This project is perfect for gift giving or an easy kids activity. Let’s get started making these festive ornaments.

To make these ornaments I started with the clear glass bulbs that can be found in any of the big box stores. If you don’t find them now, it won’t be long before they show up. They come in many shapes and sizes and I have used a variety here. The tops pull right out for filling with your choice of décor.

As shown below – I have used the Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage to coat the inside of the bulb.

You can use as much as you like to coat the inside because what you don’t use will be returned to the bottle for future use. I like to fill mine about half way – cover the opening with my finger and – then move the liquid around until the inside is completely coated. Try not to shake it because that causes bubbles. Return unused liquid to the jar. If you should get a bubble, turn the ornament upside down and the bubbles will slide out. You may have to give it a little shake or tap.

Once the inside of the bulb is coated with the Decoupage Finish – and while still wet – the Silk Microfine Glitter should be added. Once again, no need to be frugal with the glitter as the unused portion will be returned to the jar for another use. Cover the opening and this time you can feel free to shake it until the entire inside is coated with glitter. Return remaining glitter to the jar. Depending on where you live, you may want to leave the lid off the glitter jar and allow some time for the glitter to dry out. I live in Arizona so it doesn’t take long. If you live in a humid climate you may want to set the open jar aside over night.

Using the Flourished Christmas Minis, cut two designs from silver paper and glue to the outside of the ornament. When the inside is completely dry, replace cap and tie a bow on top.

Tip: First add Double Sided Adhesive to the back of the paper before cutting the design. This way you will have a nice clean sticker to add to the ornament.

The process is exactly the same for all the ornaments, decorate as desired.

For this one, Iced Teal Silk Microfine Glitter and the new Snowflake die from Joset Designs was used.

Here Real Red Silk Microfine Glitter was used and another Snowflake from the same set as above. The Snowflake was cut apart so it would lie flat.

Here is an example of one of the beautiful colors found in the Earth Microfine Glitter Pallette. This one is further decorated with the Berry Branch die and Nuvo Drops for the berries. The branch was cut apart for a perfect fit.

I’m really fond of this one because of it’s unusual shape. After adding the Royal Teal Silk Microfine Glitter it became the perfect night sky. Some adorable little houses were added using the Village Edges die and the star is from the center of the snowflake used on the red ornament. The final touch is a stamped banner.
