Katie Accordion Battery-Operated Tea Light Luminary

September 22, 2014

Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel. When I first saw the new Christmas Elves Peel-offs, I could not wait to use them on the Katie Label Accordion. I love discovering new ways to use dies, so when I realized I could make a 4-sided luminary with the Katie Accordion I was excited. Safety reminder: This luminary is designed for a battery-operated tea light candle, not the wax and wick variety. Let me show you how I made it.

1.  From red card stock cut 4 Katie Accordion panels, cut off both of the little side tabs on all 4 panels.

2.  From pattern paper cut 2 Katie Accordion panels, cut out the center label (I didn’t use the frame portion).

3.  From green card stock cut 2 sets of Katie Holly Frame Edges (total of 4 each size for a total of 8 frames). Die cut 6 flourishes using the accessory die in the Katie Label Accordion.

4.  Adhere double sided adhesive to a 2.5″ x 5″ piece of white cardstock. Using the string of lights die from the Holiday House set, die cut 5 strings of lights. Working one string of lights at a time, remove the release sheet from the adhesive, cover with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess, polish the glitter with your finger. Color the glittered strings of lights with alcohol based markers.

5.  Adhere a piece of double sided adhesive to white cardstock large enough to fit desired Christmas Elves Peel-offs.

6.  Place desired peel-off stickers sticky side up on the release sheet. Take your white cardstock with the double sided adhesive and place it sticky side down onto the release sheet. Your peel-offs will now be stuck to the adhesive.

7.  Cover the adhesive with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess and polish with your finger. Color images with alcohol based markers, then cut out images.

8.  Adhere all pieces to Katie Label Accordion per photos below. Tip: To aid in keeping your peel-off sentiments straight, use a Transfer Sheet to transfer the Merry Christmas peel-off sticker to your project (tip courtesy of Frances Byrne).

9.   Lay your Katie Label Accordions with the long tabs to the right and use liquid glue to adhere them all together. Connect the last tab to the first panel to create a box. The luminary will fold flat for mailing or storage.

I hope you were inspired by my tutorial and feel inspired to try it out yourself.

Happy Crafting,

Raquel

Snowman Katie Label Accordion Card

July 20, 2014

Hi everyone! Helen here with a Christmas Accordion card today. I know we have been seeing a lot of  ‘Christmas in July’ lately, but it’s hard to resist with all of Elizabeth Craft Designs’ wonderful new die releases! Starting your Christmas cards now is actually a pretty good idea. I always end up getting to the middle of December, with a grand total of about three cards made and a mad panic to make more!

Directions:

1. Cut out two plain white Katie Label Accordion panels and eight border pieces from blue glitter card using the Katie Stars Frame Edges. Keep four of the tiny blue stars which are left over from cutting the borders.

2. Use the Katie Label Accordion die to cut blue patterned paper center pieces. Cut off the excess tabs by hand.

3. Cut out the various parts of the snowman as shown below including two snow drifts, a ‘Merry Christmas’, a large star and two snowflakes from the Spiral Circle Pull Card set. (Please note that the small black gems shown in the picture below didn’t end up being used!)

4. Using a glue runner, glue pen, white glue and small adhesive foam pads, assemble all the card parts, leaving the joining tabs of the two Katie Label Accordion panels till last.

5. Use one of the Katie Stars Frame Edges to cut three tiny red stars for the center of the two snowflakes and for decoration on the larger star.

And it’s done! I challenge you to also have a go at a Christmas card in July!

Hoppy & Lucy

July 7, 2014

Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel here today. I am very excited about Elizabeth Craft Designs’ 2014 Summer Release! To continue that excitement, I have created a card with some new and currently available dies.  Let’s get crafty.

1.  Cut blue paper at 4.25 x 11 and score at 5.5 for your backing card.

2.  Cut the largest Lucy Label (label only) from green paper. Cut two of the middle-sized Lucy Label from white paper, leave the die on and trace around the edge with a fine point marker then stamp sentiments.

3.  Cut one oval using the Oval accessory die from the Katie Label Accordion from green pattern paper and snip a triangle out to resemble a lily pad.

4.  Using Hoppy the Frog, cut two shadow layers of Hoppy from dark green paper. Cut two detail layers of Hoppy from green. Cut two sets of eyes from white paper. Cut 4 flies from black paper. Cut two of the mouth areas using the detail layer from red paper.

5.  Using Props 1, cut two lips from red paper and one pair of glasses from black paper.

6.  Adhere Hoppy as shown in picture and set aside these pieces.

7.  For Hoppy on the inside, cut off his legs and glue them to the side of his body to resemble a frog jumping. Adhere acetate to the lens of the black glasses (from step 5) then adhere to Hoppy.  Apply Crystal Effects to lips and mouth of Hoppy if desired, then set Hoppy aside to dry.

8.  Cut pattern paper at 4.25 x 11 and score at 5.5, then cut pop up using Lucy Label. Use an edge from Agatha Edges to cut 1.25 off both ends of the pattern paper and adhere the pieces you just cut off to the inside of backing card (green polka dot). Adhere pattern paper cut with Lucy Label to backing card.

9.  Cut the largest Lucy Label (label only) from blue paper and adhere to label on the inside of card.

10.  Cut two edge dies from Agatha Edges from blue paper and adhere to card as shown.

11.  Cut two sets of Happy Birthday, adhere them together for added dimension then adhere to bottom of card.

12.  Adhere Hoppy to the top bump of the Lucy Label as shown.

13.  Adhere remaining pieces to front of card as shown.

I hope you have “Hopped” right along in the tutorial and feel inspired to give it a try.
