In ‘Your Likeness’ Bookmarks

June 28, 2021

Hey Friends! It’s EK and today I am creating a few bookmarks for my kids using Ilse and Charlene stamps. During summer months, the deal between my kids and myself is if they read daily, I will leave them alone. They are holding up their end of the bargain, but it seems they are constantly stealing my notes and reminders to stick inside their novels. So today I thought it would be fun if I created a some bookmarks in their likeness for them to use instead.

Step One: Die cut four bookmark bases using the Diagonal Stitched Fishtails die set out of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Two: Stamp from the Ilse and Charlene stamp collection in alcohol friend ink images in the likeness of the people in your life. I used Lady & Gentleman, Funky Chicks, and Pure Spring stamp sets for my family.

Step Three: Color in the images. I used copic markers.

Step Four: Add a sentiment to each of the book marks. I used one from the Moments of Life stamp set.

Step Five: Using a background stamp from the Moments of Life stamp set, add texture to the bookmark.

Step Six: Repeat step five using a different background stamp from the Moments of Life stamp set..

Step Seven: Blend ink through the Pattern Stencil Pack stencils onto the bookmarks. I coordinated color with each shirt. For my middle child I used the wacky lines stencil and Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxides.

For my youngest, I used the circle stencil and Salty Ocean Distress Oxides.

For my son I used the dash grids and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide.

Finally, for the bookmark I created for myself I used the rose buds stencil and Pine Needles Distress Oxides.

Step Eight: To finish the bookmarks, add coordinating thin satin ribbon.

I hope you think these book marks are as much fun as I do. Make sure you check out the whole Ilse and Charlene’s stamp line to see which images best showcase your family.

This is Love

April 22, 2021

Hey Friends! It’s EK and today I am playing around with Ilse and Charlene’s Lady and Gentleman stamp set to create a card, colored only in neutral browns. I just love how an all brown tone project looks, appearing very rustic, and yet somehow really colorful.

Step One: Using both watercolor paper and waterproof ink, stamp both the Lady and Gentleman stamp set and the First Sights of Spring stamp set images onto your paper. My paper is cut larger than my card frame, so I know the edges will still need to be trimmed before turning this into a card.

Step Two: Color the people in the image and different brown tones. I used watercolor pencils, but any watercolor medium would work. Here I have colored in the people like I would if I was using colored pencils.

Step Three: Using clear water, activate the watercolor pencils. Let dry.

Step Four: Finish coloring the rest of the image using your watercolor medium of choice.

Step Five: Again activate the pencil using clean water. Let dry again.

Step Six: Fill in the empty space using one of the Pattern Stencil Pack stencils. I picked the circles stencils and blended Tea Dye Distress Oxide through the stencil.

Step Seven: Trim the watercolor paper to fit an A2 card frame and adhere it to the frame using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Add craft drops to the project to add more visual interest. I used Metallic Gold Craft Drops to keep the neutral color palette.

Step Eight: Add a sentiment to the project from the Retro Label Sayings stamp set stamped in Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide.

What do you think of a project colored in only one color tone? Do you ever only ever use one value when creating a project? Let us know in the comments below. Until then, happy crafting.
