Shimmer Sheetz-Lined Elegant Roses Gatefold – Merci!

Shimmer Sheetz-Lined Elegant Roses Gatefold – Merci!

By Judi Kauffman

This project was inspired by a jacket I saw on one of the singers at the Grammy awards show in February. It was kimono-like with elaborate embroidery and exaggerated sleeves that moved and sparkled.

I lined both sides of my Elegant Roses Gatefold card with lightly sanded Turquoise Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz to give the look of the sleeves and used soft sheer organza ribbon to echo the flowing quality of the rest of the garment.

The removable card reveals its secrets when the ‘jacket’ is untied: Leafy branches on the outside, another branch and a sentiment on the inside. I chose ‘Merci’ this time, but will switch to other sentiments and color combinations for sending birthday and anniversary wishes!

Sending Kisses by Judi Kauffman

Sending Kisses
By Judi Kauffman

Who says that Valentines have to be red, pink, and white and filled with hearts and cupids? I know that’s the norm, but I thought it would be fun to go in a different direction. Besides, who says that ‘Sending Kisses’ is only for Valentine’s Day in the first place? I think this project would serve well all year. You can send kisses for birthdays and anniversaries, with get well wishes, and when there’s no occasion whatsoever.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year

September 12, 2016

GN-Chrysanthemums-with-bird

Autumn is such a wonderful time of year with all the beautiful Fall colors! It is that time of year we love to decorate our porches and yards with beautiful chrysanthemums. This is Selma today and I have designed a card using many of the colors we see this time of year. The flowers were created with Susan’s Garden Notes Chrysanthemum dies. Other dies used are the Susan’s Garden – Garden Patch Woodland Leaves, Leafy Branch, Berry Branch, and the new Els van de Burgt Studio Entwined Circles, Joset Designs Birds, and Winter Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. Here is how I created this card.

Shimmer Sheetz Sweater Cards

Shimmer Sheetz Sweater Cards
By Judi Kauffman

JUDI

The minute I saw the newly-released ‘Sweater’ die set from the Joset Designs collection I envisioned it in school colors as a letter sweater or with the graduation year in large numbers. I pictured a fancy sweater for holiday parties with lots of bling. And I knew I wanted to keep going with topiary tree cards like the Gingerbread Man Topiary Tree Cards posted here on the blog on August 14, 2016.

The die set also includes a reindeer and snowflake for winter and holiday sweaters, as well as the charming coat hanger die. It’s so versatile! Just imagine cardstock ski sweaters with stamped patterns across the front or sweaters cut from soft, fuzzy felt. And how about making some for an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, as gift tags for friends who knit, with ‘#1’ on the front to celebrate someone’s achievements? There are so many possibilities…

The three cards above show my first three ideas. Instead of giving detailed instructions, please use the images and my design strategies and tips to create your own customized Shimmer Sheetz Sweater Cards for any occasion.

DESIGN STRATEGIES & TIPS

*If you’re new to die cutting Shimmer Sheetz, review Els van de Burgt’s video TUTORIAL. A metal adaptor plate or Big Shot machine with a Precision Base Plate is required for this technique. Add Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to the back of the Shimmer Sheetz before die cutting or use pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to secure the sweater on the card front.

*The alphabet stickers I chose for ‘YOU’VE GOT BLING’ didn’t include an apostrophe so I made one with a single petal cut from the largest Glitter Flower peel-off used on the sleeves  and yoke of the sweater. The sweater is Purple Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz. I mixed Glitter Dots, Glitter Flowers, and adhesive-backed gems for the ‘bling’.

*To anchor the Silver Metallic Shimmer Sheetz hanger onto the card front, pierce 2 holes and use a needle to pull metallic braid through the holes; tie a small bow. Notice the tiny Glitter Dots along the raglan sleeve seam line. They’re the smallest size on the sheet of peel-offs.sweater C

*Tone down the sparkle on the Emerald Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz topiary tree sweater by lightly sanding BEFORE adding the leaves die cut from Light Green Velvet Adhesive Sheet as shown below. This card measures over 9″ and is sized for a #10 business envelope. (I did not sand the other two sweaters because I liked them shiny and sparkly. They are A2 size.) Refer back to the project instructions on August 14, 2016 for a complete how-to for Topiary Tree Cards.

sweater F

*The contrasting numbers, neckline piece, cuffs at the sleeves and bottom of the school sweater are die cut from Blue Velvet Adhesive Sheet, providing a soft matte contrast to the sparkly Yellow Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz sweater.

*Your cards can be any size, as long as the sweater fits.

*Add some embellishments, printed stickers, layers of patterned papers and/or solid color cardstock, and your fun and easy card will be ready to mail!

*The supply list below covers materials used for all three cards.

Summertime

CS-6-16-16

Hope you are enjoying this first day of summer.  Hello, this is Selma Stevenson today.  I love creating scenes using Susan’s CountryScapes die sets.  As you probably know, Susan is very famous for her larger, very realistic flowers, but she also has a wonderful line of CountryScapes  small flower dies, that help us create pretty outdoor garden scenes, such as this summer scene.    Let me show you how I created this garden.

Picture Frame Card

May 20, 2016

Hi Everyone.  It’s Tina here again as Guest Designer.  If you are like me and use your own cards to give to your family and friends the thought of that card being thrown out in the garbage afterwards is devastating.  The following card design can be used later on in a picture frame (or shadow box frame) to be mounted to a wall.  You can also use this idea for an easel stand as well.
