Secrets of a mixed media butterfly! by Katie Porcina

February 10, 2023

Hi Everyone, Katie here, and todays blog post is based on a challenge from Joset! I am so excited to be using the new Elizabeth Craft Designs Hand Drawn Stamp & Die Collection. I decided to take her up on her challenge and do a creative background with stencils, inks and distress spray. So grab a coffee or tea and lets get started!!

Step 1: Take a sheet of heavy watercolor paper and cut it to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.

Step 2: I took one of the stencils from Planner stencils 3 and added distress ink directly to the back of the stencil, next I spritzed it with water and pressed it to my watercolor paper and dried it with my heating tool. Next, I took my pink distress ink pad and smooched it against my mat, spritzed it with water. Then I took my reversed stencil image and dabbed it into my smooshed ink, and dry.

Step 3: Stamp and cut out your butterfly images and your tag from Esther new release as per picture above.

**Optional** I added some stenciling and a butterfly to the inside of my card base.

Step 4: I sprayed distress black soot on my matt, next I took a lid and rubbed it into the black soot and created the circles on my card image. I took my card front dragged the edges in the remainder of the ink on my matt and speckled. (See picture below)

Step 5: I pop dotted my butterfly with a foam dot.

Step 6: I took my ticket tag and adhered it to my card front as per picture above, next I added some black Sisal and adhered my butterfly on top.

Step 7: I added the word hello but any script word will do, next I matted my card front to black card stock and adhered it to a card base that is 6 x 9 1/2, scored @ 4 3/4″.

Thank you for joining me with todays blog post I hope it gave you some creative inspiration.

Have a wonderful day!

Halloween Mixed Media – Monster Mash!

July 20, 2022

Hi everyone, I wanted to get a jump start on my Halloween/Fall projects so I made this super fun but messy Monster Mixed Media Planner Pages. So Lets get started.

Step 1: You will need Tim Holtz Distress Sprays, I used Black Soot, Straw and Carved Pumpkin, but any combination will do. You will also need Rangers Heavy Watercolor Paper, Moon Mask, Planner Essentials 2, Water Spritzy Bottle and Heating tool.

Step 2: Cut your two planner pages using Planner Essentials 2 from the Ranger Heavy Watercolor Cardstock. next place you Lrg Moon Mask on the top part of your left hand page.

Step 3: Spray your Straw, Carved Pumpkin and Black Soot as per the picture above, once you have finished. Carefully lift your moon mask.

Step 4: Once you moon mask has been lifted, heat set with your heating tool.

Step 5: Once your page is dry I lightly spritzed the center of my moon so the distress spray activates. I then spritzed the side spray on my mixed media mat and dabbed the center of my moon. For my right hand side page I spritzed with the straw, Carved Pumpkin and Black Soot and dried it with my heating tool. (As per picture above)

Step 6: I cut out my Halloween Monsters from coordinating cardstock and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress ink or your choice of ink colors.

Step 7: Out of Planner Essentials Halloween Set 2, cut out your Haunted House, word and Number 31 from your choice of cardstock.

Step 8: Out of Planner Essentials 3 and heavy Black Card Stock cut out your Spider Web Frame and attach to your right hand side planner page.

Step 9: Once your Monsters are assembled, I attached my Haunted House down first, then my Monster Witch and Blue Pirate Monster the Cooking Pot was pop dotted on top of both monsters and the bat is attached with a small pop-dot to the top of the moon. (As per picture above)

Step 10: I matted the Halloween word onto Black and Lime Green Cardstock and attached to the top of my page. Next I attached my Monster Spider to the Web. I did not glue down the web as it leaves room to slide in a photo in the background.

Step 11: Add your reinforcement rings to both pages,

Step 12: And the best part is saved for last, I speckled both pages using a fan brush and heavy mixed media white paint.

I hope todays blog post brought you some inspiration and a little bit of Halloween Fun!

Thank you and Happy Crafting >Katie<
