Planner Fun in New Mexico

February 22, 2023

Karen here. My guy and I recently took a road trip to New Mexico with his dog. Today’s post is documentation of that trip for two books I have. One is Sadie’s book that I am making for my guy of his beloved pet; the other is for my Places I’ve Been album where I document trips I have made. We ended up in Roswell, NM – such a cool place. I used the Monsters as Aliens in these pages.

First up is Sadie’s page. Of all the places we went, Roswell was definitely the most pet friendly. She was invited into every place we went. (One of us usually stands outside…store owners came out with dog cookies to ask her in!) The page uses the Planner Essentials 38 over a Planner Essentials 4 page base. I used Monster 3 die for my alien. The paper on both of the pages is a combination of Reminiscence 2 and 5. The two stamp sets used were the Monster Hugs and Vacay Phrases sets.

On the back of the page are a couple more pictures. That gorgeous “Hello Love” stamp is from the Block Words – Hello Set.

This page is for my Places I’ve Been set. The page base is from Planner Essentials 28. It features a Monster 2 as my alien. He’s hugging a Stitched Heart. I used the wristband for our entry into the International Alien Museum as an embellishment.

On the back of the page are some pictures from Albuquerque and Lincoln County. The label tags are from the December Daily set. Of course, no page is completely complete without some reinforcements from one of the Reinforcement Variety Packs!

Thank you for stopping by today!

Craftily yours, Karen

Halloween Monster Pull Card

August 17, 2022

Hello crafty friends, it’s Summer Hills-Painter here. I so love working with the monster collection and really wanted to try one with the monster jumping out of the bushes.

Preparation:

Select varying shades of blue ink and a black ink of your choice. From white soft finish cardstock, cut a 3 ½ x 8 ½ piece of cardstock. Also cut a card base from black cardstock measuring 7 ½ x 8 5/8 and score at 3 5/8. Cut out and assemble Monster 3. Additionally, cut a piece of grass using the Tree die set. Also cut some bushes from the Forest Accessories die set and pumpkins from the Hay Ride die set. Finally, cut a pumpkin from the Scarecrow die set.

Instructions:
Starting with the lights blue ink, blend ink into the center of the piece of white cardstock. Go to the next shade of blue which is a darker than the first and blend that around the light blue ink, leaving the center untouched. Follow that color with the next darker shade of blue ink. Lastly, go around the edges with black ink.

Using white ink/paint, lightly splatter the white paint onto the card to simulate stars in the night sky.

Using the Pull Tabs die, cut the center notch at the top of the card panel and a slider piece into the center of the card.

Cut a slider piece, two circle pieces, and a slider wrap from black cardstock using the Pull Tabs die set. Fold the slider mechanism on the score lines as well as the slider wrap. Also fold one of the circles in half on its score line.

Fold the tabs of the slider and glue down leaving the half circles unglued. Slide the have circle through the opening, open up, and add glue

Adhere the unfolded circle to the slider piece. Also adhere the grass piece and stamp with the Happy Halloween sentiment from the Autumn Words stamp set

Pull the slider tab up to the position of your choice and add the monster to the circle piece.  In the monsters hand is the pumpkin from the die set and stamped with the “trick or treat” from the Autumn Wordsstamp set

Adhere the shrubs pieces together forming a larger bush for the monster to hide behind. Add foam tape/dots to the bottom of the shrubs. This will act as a stopper for the monster and give space the it to slide behind

Adhere the shrub piece and pumpkins to the card front

Adhere the slider wrap to the back of the card to assist in the slider movement. Add foam tape on the back of the card front. The foam tape with help raise the card enough to allow for the easier sliding as well.

Adhere the card front to the base and the card is complete

Step 3 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4″ x 2 3/4″ and apply Ink of your choice using a Blender Brush. I used a Soft Green and Blue Ink. Diecut Birthday Flip Card (Panel). I saved the “Happy Birthday” diecuts for another time and adhered the panel to the front of the card using Kid’s Choice Glue.

Step 4 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ and apply Ink of your choice using a Blender Brush. I used a Soft Green and Blue Ink. Adhere to inside of card using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 5 – Diecut Monster 3 using White Soft Finish Cardstock (or if you prefer coloured Cardstock). Color using medium of your choice. I used Inks. Assemble and adhere to inside of card using Kid’s Choice Glue.

Step 6 – Diecut Party Time (Party Horn) using White Soft Finish Cardstock. Color in using any medium of your choice. I used Copic Markers. Adhere to card using Kid’s Choice Glue making sure to slid into the opening of the mouth.

This card will be sure to make any child excited. Or adults, lol. Below is a link to all the products used. Thank you for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

The Party Train

July 21, 2022

Hello crafty friends, it’s Summer Hills-Painter here. I absolutely LOVE the new monster collection from Joset Designs. Today I am sharing a card that I created using the collection.

Preparation:

For the card base, cut a piece of cardstock to 10″ x 7″ and score at 5″. Also cut a piece of white soft finish cardstock to 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″. Cut out the fence from the Slimline Adventure Edges in both black cardstock and woodgrain cardstock. Also cut the shrub edge from a scrap piece of cardstock to use as a stencil in later steps. Using Monster 1 and Monster 3, cut and assemble your characters out of your favorite colors of cardstock. For added depth and dimension, ink the edges of each body piece with a coordinating ink. Also add party hats from the Party Time die set. For fun, you can cut the hat out of multiple colors, cut some of the hats along the embossed lines and adhere to a base hat. Finally cut and assemble the Holiday Train and Train Carts out of party themed cardstock.

Instructions:
Using piece of cardstock cut with the shrub die, place on your card front and lightly ink above using a light blue ink and your favorite blending tool. Shift the stencil down and lightly ink again. Continue the process until your reach your horizon line. Flip your stencil to the straight edge and use as a mask for your inked sky background. Ink the exposed bottom portion of the card front with green ink. For extra dimension, you can use 3 green inks ranging from light to dark and blend a grassy bottom portion of the card. For this card, some water droplets were also added.

For the railroad track, adhere the black diecut fence upside down with the points hanging off of the edge of the card front.

Cut apart the fence posts from the woodgrain cardstock and adhere to the corresponding black fence posts on the card front. Flip the card front over and trim off the excess fence pieces hanging over the edge. Using a silver pen, place two dots top and bottom on the wood pieces for the railroad nails. Optional, use a green pen to flick blades of grass on the green portion of the card front.

Adhere the Holiday Train and Holiday Carts to your railroad track.

Cut the Monster Hugs and Let’s Party stamps in half to creat a new stamp saying Monster Party. Do not worry, you will still be able to use the stamps in the original word design for later projects.

Adhere your cardfront to your card base. Put your monsters in the train carts. Optional, for a smoke effect from the train engine, cut the train icing die from grey cardstock and adhere as if coming out of the engin
