Beautiful hydrangeas, “Water Vessels”

Hello, this is Diane here with a card for you!

Flooding season has officially arrived here and this year it’s been awful, even more than usual. Reading on the hydrangea, I learned that the name is derived from Greek and means ‘water vessel’, which is in reference to the shape of its seed capsules. With this post, I wish to extend my compassion to everyone who feels heartaches having to deal with an infuriated Mother Nature and I’m offering them those mini water vessels.

Here are the steps to make this card:

Step 1: Card base

  • Use a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock, 12 X 6, folded in half to make a 6 X 6 card.
  • With a purple patterned paper, cute a square piece 5 1/2 X 5 1/2.
  • Die cut a circle with the the largest die of the Dotted Scallop Circles (#1172) dies set, in a purple cardstock.
  • Die cut a second circle with the the second largest die of the Stitched Circles (#1116) dies set, in a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • Using the same purple cardstock as for the first circle, die cut the Flower Lace 2 (#1383).
  • With some Double Sided Adhesive Tape and some Kids Choice Glue, adhere all the layers on top of each other, like shown in the next picture.
  • And here’s the final card base:

Step 2 Hydrangea

  • Using the die set Garden Notes Hydrangea 2 (#1293), die cut 6 times the center that will be use for the base of each of the three flowers, in a green cardstock.
  • With the medium size ball stylus (from the 4 Pieces All Metal Tool Set), on the Molding Pad, create a dome with each of the 6 pieces.
  • Glue the bases two by two, using a toothpick and some Kids Choice Glue, to get 3 final center pieces.
  • Cut the stem off, we do not use them for this card.
  • Ink up some White Soft Finish Cardstock using some Oxide Ink, (here I used some Dusty Concord), dabbing very lightly the dauber on both side of the cardstock.
  • Die cut the 4 times the plate of little flowers on the inked cardstock.
  • Shape the little flowers on a Molding Pad. with the smallest ball stylus, wrong side up, on each of the 4 tips of the flowers.
  • Turn the flowers on the right side and cup up with the same stylus.
  • Glue the green domes on the card base and had the little flowers to cover the domes.
  • With a make-up applicator, had some shading in the heart of some flowers, with the Bright Yellow Green Shades Pan Pastel.
  • Add a very small touch of glue here and there in some centers of the flowers and sprinkle some small green prills.
  • Using some green cardstock, die cut the leaves 5 or 6 times each.
  • On the Leaf Pad, with the leaf tool, draw some vein on the wrong side.
  • Bent the leaves and add some Bright Yellow Green Pan Pastel on the vein with a make-up applicator.
  • Add some shading with a dark green ink on the edges of each leaf.
  • On the Molding Pad, give some dimension to the leaves by rubbing them on the tip with the medium ball stylus.
  • Glue them on the project.

Love With Calla Lilies

Good morning!

Kathy here from the Elizabeth Craft Design Team, showcasing Susan’s Calla Lily, from her latest release. 

What a beautiful flower, coming in so many different colors. Besides the white one, I’ve colored the two others to look like a Flame and a Garnet Glow Lily. 

The background was done on photo paper with Brusho powders, and a thin layer of green card stock. 

The Lilies are arranged in the Garden Notes Pottery Pitcher (1294). I found paper already embossed. Moss was added, and the ‘Love’ die from Suzanne Cannon (1165). Of course, the wonderful ladybug!

A Way With Words Soft Finish Cardstock Stamping

Pretty Pink Cosmos

Hi Everyone!

Angela here today with a card for a young woman who is achieving wonderful things these days. With a background created with Ken Oliver’s Color Burst powders and a die from 1168-Bead Strings 1, I’ve put together  the perfect place for Susan’s 1637-Garden Notes Cosmos. One of those lovely summer flowers that comes in lots of pretty colours.

Here’s how it came together:

1- Using the Color Burst powders and water on water colour paper, create a background in the colours of your choice.

2- Cut a 5.5 X 5.5 inch square of 90lb Soft Finish cardstock. Using the thicker curved die cut across the cardstock at about 4 inches from the bottom at a slightly downward angle. Save the larger bottom piece and the ribbon. Attach them to the created background using Double sided tape.

3- Cut a piece of coordinating cardstock, 5.75 X 5.75 inches, and use it to mat the background piece.

4-Fasten all of this to a 6X6 inch card base made from 110lb Soft Finish cardstock.

5-Cut flower pieces and leaves for 5 Cosmos. Colour using Copic markers. Use yellow pollen to finish centers as shown in Susan’s Garden Club Face book video.

6-Shape and create the flowers, using the 4 piece tool kit and Kid’s Choice glue.

7-Adhere to card front as shown in photo.

8-Stamp sentiment onto banner and fasten with foam adhesive and there you have it!

A Way With Words Joset Designs Soft Finish Cardstock

Hello crafters! The Garden Notes flowers are a perfect decoration for creating cards or frames for a friend. This is Luciana today and I designed a card with a Garden Notes – Cosmos die set .

Here is the step-by-step tutorial:

Step 1: Card base

Use a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock, 12 X 6 , folded in half to make a 6 X 6 card. Using some Clear Double-Sided Adhesive Tape, to adhere on the card a square 5 3/4 inches of watercolored White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 2: Forsythia

Cut out two sets of the Garden Notes – Forsythia dies, from the White Soft Finish Cardstock. You will need two layers of only one of the two branches of the set.
Color all the pieces as showed below.
Use the smallest ball tool and the molding pad to add a curly on the inner part of the branches, and on each petal of the flower.
Use the Kids choice glue to adhere the two layers of the branch and all the flowers on it.

Step 3: Cosmos

Cut out six sets of the Garden Notes – Cosmos dies, from the White Soft Finish Cardstock (except the stem).
Color all the pieces as shown below.

Use the loop tool and the molding pad to add a texture on all the petals.
Add a ripple on the paper, using the ball tool.
Wrap the pistils with the tweezers
Use the Kids choice glue to adhere the two layers of petals and the pieces of the pistils.

Step 4: Leaves

Add the vein to the leaves, using the leaf tool and the leaf pad. And then with the ball tool and the molding pad add more curving details. Use all the several leaves from different Garden Notes Sets.

Step 5: Sentiments

Die cut the word “just” from the Die set – Words 2 – Thinking of You, and the word “happy” from the set A Way With Words, Happy Birthday 3, both in a White Soft Cardstock, and then color them with a brown color.

Use the Garden Notes – Frame It/ Stitched Circles set in the White Soft Cardstock, to create a frame for a your picture.

Step 6: Assemblage

Arrange and adhere the flowers and leaves as shown below.

Beautiful Prairie Roses As A Thank You

Hi! Diane here with a “Thank You” card made with Prairie Roses and the Heart Grapevine Wreath.

There’s so many wonderful persons in my life that I want to thank –– let me start with our wonderful designer who creates the most incredible flowers for us to enjoy, Susan Tierney Cockburn. I’m in love with the Prairie Roses and I hope you will too after seeing how easy they are to make.

Step 1: Card base

  • For this card, you will need a 12 X 6 piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock 90 lbs , folded in half, to make a 6 X 6 card.
  • You will need a 5 3/4 inches square cut out of some purple cardstock, a 5 1/2 square cut out of yellow cardstock and a 5 1/4 square cut out of a pattern purple cardstock.
  • Using some Clear Double-Sided Adhesive Tape, adhere each layer on top of the other.

Step 2: Heart Grapevine Wreath

  • Using the #1648 Garden Notes – Heart Grapevine Wreath, die cut the wreath twice in brown 80 lbs cardstock.
  • Using the tweezers in the 4 Pces All Metal Tool Set, shape the wreaths to give them dimension.
  • With the Beacon Kid’s Choice Glue, adhere the wreaths onto the card base, the first one on the wrong side and the second one on the right side.

Step 3: Prairie Roses

  • Using the die set #1643 – Garden Notes Prairie Roses, die cut every pieces of the flower 5 times in White Soft Finish Cardstock 90 lbs.
  • Susan Tierney Cockburn has a complete video where she explains and demonstrate every steps to make the prairie rose. You can watch it here.
  • Color the flowers petals using ink markers, here were used some different shades of purple and light pink.
  • Using the loop tool in the 4 Pces All Metal Tool Set , shape the petals and with the small ball stylus, cup up the petals.
  • Color the centers with a very light shade of green ink marker.
  • Cut off the filament of all the center pieces in half using the Fine Pointed Scissors.
  • Dip all center parts into the Kids Choice Glue and than in the Yellow Pollen.
  • With the small ball stylus, cup up the wheel shape parts.
  • Using the tweezers from the 4 Pces All Metal Tool Set roll up the center pieces.
  • Die cut 8 to 10 leaves out of green 80 lbs cardstock.
  • Using the leaf tool from the 4 Pces All Metal Tool Set, draw a vein in the middle of each leaf, fold on the vein and apply some Yellow Pan Pastel with a make-up applicator.
  • With the right side up, draw some more vein on each side of the main vein.
  • With a darker shade of green and a dauber, shade the edges of each leaves.
  • Using the medium ball stylus, shape the edges on the back of each leave, holding it on the Molding Pad with the tweezers.

Step 4: Baby’s Breath

  • Out of dark green cardstock, die cut one branch.
  • Out of White Soft Finish Cardstock 90 lbs, die cut a plate of the little centers.
  • Using the Beacon Kid’s Choice Glue, adhere the little centers on to the branches after cupping them with a toothpick on an eraser or on a carving block.

Step 5: Sentiments

  • Using the die set # 1466 Words 2 – Thinking of You, die cut the word Thanks out of yellow cardstock.

Final step:

  • Using the Beacon Kid’s Choice Glue, adhere the Baby’s Breath on the wreath.
  • Glue the flowers starting with the three petals parts first and off setting the two petals parts. Glue the little wheel pieces (2) next and finish up with the center piece, on each petals set.
  • Glue the leaves around the flowers.
  • Finally, glue the word “Thanks” in the heart.

Framed Welcome with Cymbidium Orchids

I love orchids and I always have a several in the house. My husband has made it a point to give me one every Mother’s Day because he loves how long the blooms last. Phalaenopsis are the most common and easiest to get to re-bloom, but my favorite is the Cymbidium and I have never gotten that to re-bloom… until now! Haha –– I can make them any color I like, at any time, with dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs!

  1. I started with a 5×7 black shadow box frame. I wanted my orchid to really pop, so I also started with a black 5×7 base.
  2. Die cut 5 ‘Welcome’ out of white card stock and adhered them together. Because the orchid is so dimensional, a stacked word die cut works much better for the overall look.
The slight white edges of the orchid makes it really pop against the black background.

3. Susan has a great video on how to make these orchids, so I won’t go through the process here. To make the buds on the top though, I used the 3 petal die and curled each of the petal. Cut them apart and stack them as seen to make a bud. The top bud uses the 2 petal die cut the same way.

Final piece before placing it inside the shadow box frame.

4. After adhering all flower stem and ‘Welcome’ onto the black card stock as shown above, I added some moss to the bottom as most orchid plants will come with a bit of moss on the pot to retain moisture.

There’s quite a glare when taking pictures with a glass frame but it looks very polished in a shadow box!

I loved how quickly this came together but looks so “put together”. Having it framed inside a shadow box also keeps it safe from dust and will fit on a little nook in the entry way perfectly.

How To Create A Tiny Bouquet

Hello crafters! Luciana is here today, showing you how to create a little paper bouquet that could be a perfect piece of decor for your home! You could even collect several tiny bouquets in a single vase and have a blossoming centerpiece –– perfect for Spring!

Here is the tutorial:

Step 1. Die cut from White Soft Finish Cardstock 1 set of Garden Notes – English Rose (except the stems and 2 times the leaves).

Step 2. Color them as shown below, adding a more deep color around the external edges of the petals

Step 3. Shape all the pieces for the corollas.
Use the loop tool and the mold pad to add some details to all the petal, making lines from the outside to the inside. Turn the pieces on the back side, and then use the ball tool and the mold pad on the upper part of the petals, creating a ripple on the paper.

Step 4. Prepare the rose.
Overlap the two pieces with the 3 petals, then start to add all the petals, from the larger to the smaller one. Wrap the last petal, the triangular one,
to create a sort of central bud. When the rose is ready and the glue very dry, put the flower on a florist stem wire.

Step 5. Prepare the leaves.
Add the vein to the leaves, using the leaf tool and the leaf pad. Then glue them on a florist stem wire. Glue also some green polystyrene balls on the stem wire, with a different length .

Step 6. Create the bouquet. Put together all the pieces and wrap the floral tape around the stems.

Lupines And The Garden Watering Can

Good morning all!! Kathy here, with two of the wonderful new dies just released in Susan Tierney Cockburn’s newest collection –– Lupines and the Garden Watering Can!

Lupines come in so many beautiful colors, it was fun to pick these three! You could also make Texas Blue Bonnets with this die if you’d like!

The Lupines are very easy to make, and aren’t they such pretty and happy flowers? Makes you realize Spring IS right around the corner!

I’ve used several colors to give character to the Watering Can, and added Ladder Fern, Baby’s Breath, and Ivy as fillers; all on an embossed piece of decorator paper. The Watering Can is sitting on paper from the Wood Effects paper.  And, of course, all of these flowers were put together with the Kid’s Choice Glue.

Again, don’t forget to add the ladybug to one of the leaves!
