A Way With Words Cardmaking Soft Finish Cardstock

Once Upon A Time

March 21, 2020

It is an awfully strange times at the moment.  And I am sure someday soon (hopefully sooner rather later) we are all going to say “Once Upon a Time there was this virus…” and all of us crafters spent a lot of time playing with our collection of crafting supplies. It seemed only fitting to pull out Suzanne’s A way with Words Once Upon a Time die and start the story.

Step One:  Trim a piece of colored Soft Finish Cardstock to 6×12 inches and score and fold to make a 6×6 card frame.  I used Spring Green Soft Finish Cardstock.  Die cut the A Way With Words Once Upon a Time die into the card frame.

Step Two:  Trim a piece of contrasting Soft Finish Cardstock to slightly smaller than 6×6 inches.  I used Brick Red Soft Finish Cardstock.

IMG_E9553

Step Three:  Adhere the contrasting cardstock inside the card frame using some 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

Step Four:  Blend some ink around the edges of the card frame.  I used Crushed Olive Distress Oxide.  I also splashed some shimmer spray onto the card to add some more visual interest.

Step Five:  Blend the same ink onto the die cut sentiment.

IMG_E9556

Step Six:  Using some Kids Choice Glue adhere the sentiment back into the card frame.

IMG_E9557

Step Seven:  Die cut three candles from the A Way With Words Flourished Candle die set out of some 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock.  I full die cut our one of the candle dies, but only cut out the top portion for the other two.

Step Eight:  Blend some ink onto the die cut candle bases.  I used Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide.

Step Nine:  Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the top die cut piece to the candle bases.

Step Ten:  Adhere the fully die cut image to the card frame using some Kids Choice Glue.

Step Eleven:  Add some Peel-off silver border stickers to the edges of the card.  I used the Corners and Borders Straight stickers.

Step Twelve:  Adhere the other two die cut candles onto the card frame.  I adhered them on an angle and trimmed off the bits that hung off the card frame.  I added some color the flame using some water activated sparkle ink.

Step Thirteen:  Blend some ink onto a scrap of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock.  Die cut some butterflies from the A Way With Words Butterflies and Stars Spray.

Step Fourteen:  Adhere the butterflies onto the card frame.

Before we know, this card will be a perfect way to tell the story of how you sheltered during this world wide shut down.  What are you doing during these strange times and what craft supplies are you playing with?  Let us know in the comments below.  Until then, Happy crafting.

Have A Magical Day

June 15, 2019

Hi Everyone!

It’ EK here and I am popping into share with you some ways to embrace the magic of the new Joset’s critter die collection.

There really is something extra special about this new line of dies and stamps and I want to share a couple of ways to simplify when creating with them.

Step One: Die cut the new Elephant die set out of some Dove Gray Soft Finish Cardstock. By using the the Dove Gray cardstock, you already have a great base color for your elephant.

Step Two: Using some Distress Oxide in Spun Sugar, dab some color onto the Elephants inner ears to soften the color.

Step Three: Using Distress Oxide in Worn Lipstick, dab color onto the inside portion of the inner ear and the die cuts hearts from the Elephant die set. It does not take more than a few good dabs to fully color the hearts with the ink.

Step Four: Using both Distress Oxides in Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke, blend color around the edges of all the elephant pieces. Go further into the elephant with the pumice stone and just on the edges with the darker gray. By coloring the pieces with this simple technique, it gives the elephant both depth and visual interest.

Step Five: Using Kids Choice glue, adhere the pieces of the elephant together.

Step Six: Using the new Hats die set, die cut the unicorn head piece out of 90lb White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Seven: Using alcohol markers quickly color the base of the headband. I used R20, R22, and R24 copic markers.

Step Eight: Using alcohol markers, color the inner ear and horn. I used N0 and N2 copic markers. Then using a glitter pen, add glitter details.

Step Nine: Using Kids Choice Clue, adhere the unicorn head band to the elephant’s head.

Step Ten: Create a simple yet magical background for the the card by smooching Distress Ink onto a 4.25×5.5 inch piece of 90lb White Soft Finish Cardstock. I used the same colors I used on the elephant, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke, drying each layer between application.

Step Eleven: Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the elephant and hearts to the background.

Step Twelve: Stamp a sentiment to the card using the new Build Your Own Sentiments 1 stamp set. I stamped the sentiment in Worn Lipstick and the heart in Hickory Smoke.

Step Thirteen: To add a bit more visual interest without much effort, add strips of peel off stickers from the Corners and Borders Straight sticker sheet around the edges of the background.

Step Fourteen: Adhere the background to an A2 card frame made from 90lb White Soft Finish Cardstock.

I hope you enjoy seeing how I created this simple yet magical card featuring the new Elephant die set.

Thank you for peeking in and make sure you share all your ECD critter creations over on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Family Facebook page. Until then, happy crafting!

Happy Holidays

August 1, 2018

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson today with an early start on holiday cards.  Recently Susan Tierney-Cockburn had a video on her Susan’s Garden Club Facebook page showing how to assemble her Poinsettias using the Garden Notes Poinsettia die set.  You can view this video for instructions on how to create this beautiful flower here.

I’m sure there are special people on your list who would love to receive a keepsake card such as this one.  Because of the dimension, it can be protected when mailed in one of the Clear Acrylic Boxes available from Elizabeth Craft Designs. It can also be delivered in person, attached to the top of a box or the front of a gift bag, or placed inside the box or bag along with the gift.

‘Tis the Season: Spring and Summer Cards

March 17, 2018

by Judi Kauffman

It wasn’t love at first sight, but the 4 Seasons die set ended up becoming a favorite! (Suzanne and Els, you two were right, it’s so versatile!) I’ve used it on calendars and in planners and journals, and it has appeared on many, many cards. Today’s tutorial adds seven more to the count. They’re all super easy, and as I always say: Easy isn’t cheating!

I’ve chosen the Spring and Summer dies to help usher in the next two seasons, but these projects could easily be customized for Fall and Winter later in the year. Just change the papers and embossing folders to leaves, snowflakes, and other wintry themes.

Beginners: I’ve added some tips especially for you. Keep scrolling – you’ll find them after the instructions!

Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Five-Minute Bookmarks

March 4, 2018

By Judi Kauffman

I haven’t yet converted to eBooks and probably won’t. I love the heft of a good novel, I enjoy turning actual paper pages and when it’s time for a break, tucking in a bookmark. I use bookmarks in my cookbooks to keep track of favorite recipes. I include them whenever I give a book as a gift. And, as you have probably guessed, I LOVE making them!

Shimmer Sheetz is an excellent starting point for bookmarks. It’s sturdy, lightweight and durable, and it looks downright elegant.
