Personalized Kid’s Birthday Card

March 14, 2020

Diana here! I made this card for a special little 5 year old boy at his birthday. His favorite color is blue and he and his siblings have been asking for a puppy so I thought I would help out! Lol!

Kids love it when their name is on there!

I started with a 5″x7″ white card base. From there, I started with a vivid blue background sized 4.5″ x 6.5″. I found a lighter blue card stock and cut out the Big Balloon with it – sponging the edges with blue ink just a bit to make the balloon not so flat.

I covered a sheet with Silver Sands Silk Microfine Glitter and from that, cut the Happy Birthday 3. I initially planned for it to go on the balloon by itself but it didn’t stand out as I had hoped so I added a black layer on top. I love the peak of silver behind it. I also added Daniel’s name using the Retro Alphabet Trio set using the smallest of the alphabet dies.

I couldn’t help but add the puppy to the front and used twine to give the impression he was holding the balloon with his mouth. The little G is stands for Daniel’s last name –– major hinting there.

Thank you so much for looking!

You Were Born With Greatness

February 15, 2020

Hi! Diana here with one of my favorite dies to work with –– anything with butterflies! I love the color scheme I ended up with but purple is hard to photograph –– and glitter even more so! But this one is very pretty in real life so I hope you give it a try.

  1. I started with a light green sheet of cardstock measuring 4.5″ x 6.5″. I used Distress Oxides Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio to sponge around the edges and Squeezed Lemonade in the center to give it a sort of glow. I splattered with water and pat dry.
  2. Die cut the Butterfly Spray out of the top half of the colored cardstock and stamp the You were born with greatness in the bottom left corner of the sheet.
Make sure the area overs the butterfly spray.

3. With a bigger sheet of purple cardstock, I marked the approximate area behind the butterfly spray and covered that part with double sided adhesive.

Looks like a mess but will be so pretty once you overlay the negative of the butterfly die cut over it.

4. I then added a mix of Silk Microfine Glitter over the area. I initially wanted just the Amethyst but then lightened it with the Bright Cranberry and Silver Sands glitter. Rub in the glitter and use a Swiffer sheet to wipe off any excess.

The glitter is much brighter and more vibrant in real life.

5. Adhere the front to the purple sheet and trim if necessary. I then placed it all on a white card base.

Thanks so much for looking! I hope this card signals spring to come –– or 3 feet of snow. Nothing in between, thank you. 🙂

Love Card

February 1, 2020

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here! With only 13 days until Valentine’s Day, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about creating those special cards for loved ones. So, today, I’m sharing with you my Love Card.

To create my card, I’ve used a variety of dies from Suzanne Cannon! To compliment the products from Suzanne Cannon, I’ve also used dies from Els van de Burgt Studio. Read below as I have a tutorial for you on how to recreate my card.

Step One. Choose three Valentine’s Day themed patterned paper. From the first paper, die cut 4″ Stitched Rectangle. From the second paper, die cut a 3 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle. From the third paper, die cut a 2 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle. Distress the edges of papers. Ink the edges of the papers using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. Die cut a 3″ Stitched Rectangle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Distress the edges of the rectangle. Ink the edges of the rectangle using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Three. From the Love, Joy & Peace Christmas Ornament, you’ll need the love word. Die cut the word out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Four. From the Flourished Frame Die, die cut the frame out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Five. Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the frame and sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Six. From the Entwined Hearts die, die cut the set of three heart three times out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Candied Apple Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of four hearts. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of five hearts. Ink the edges of the hearts using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Seven. Adhere the Flourished Frame to the 4″ Stitched Rectangle. Adhere the 3 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle to the middle of the 4″ Stitched Rectangle.

Step Eight. Foam square the 3″ Stitched Rectangle to the middle of the 3 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle. Adhere the 2 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle to the middle of the 3″ Stitched Rectangle.

Step Nine. Adhere the Flourished Frame to the middle of the 2 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle. Adhere the Love sentiment to the middle of the Flourished Frame.

Step Ten. Adhere the hearts around the Flourished Oval Frame and sentiment as desired. Cut a cardbase out of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 1/4″ x 8″, score at 4″. Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Thank you for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Love Card.

Katelyn

A Panda Just For You

December 14, 2019

Diana here! My youngest son loves all things panda. He could say the name of his panda lovey before he could say his own name. Inevitably, he will get something panda related for his birthday and Christmas. Being a prepared momma, I made this card for him to use as a thank you card once Christmas is over.

Els has a great video on how to put the panda together so I won’t go through it here. The only thing I added was to sponge some pink on the paws and cheeks.

Can you see the Symbol background is on a sheet of Press and Seal?

I started with a white background and then sponged some yellow and green on the bottom. This softens the background and makes the background not so stark because I knew I wanted to add the Symbol background to it. In the picture above, you can see that the negative of the Symbol background is all aligned because before I took it off the cutting mat, I pressed a sheet of Press and Seal on it. Then I could just add glue and place it directly onto the background. So easy and quick!

Add some grass with some quick upstrokes of Copic markers

I almost did not add grass to the background but when I did my layout with the panda and bamboo, it looked as if the panda was floating. Adding the grass anchored him a bit. And the good news is that it does not have to be perfect as most of it will be covered by the panda.

All done!

I die cut the bamboo and the A Way With Words “for you” out of green cardstock and added shading by coloring with a darker shade of green Copic. I’ve found this keeps my die cuts some dimension.

This little guy is so cute!

Thanks for looking and hope it gives you ideas on how to personalize your thank you cards!

Glittered Peace On Earth

November 9, 2019

Hi, Diana here! Today I’m sharing how to make a card you might have seen as part of Suzanne Cannon’s holiday release. Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Silk Microfine Glitter is the ONLY glitter I will use in my craft room because it’s the only one containable! And it’s so fun to watch it turn glossy – very satisfying like the way heating up gilding or embossing powders.

To make the card, I die cut the A Way With Words Peace on Earth die 4 times out of white card stock. I also cut out one out of white card stock that was covered in a sheet of Elizabeth Craft Designs double sided tape as well as a set of extra star dies that come with the die set.

Cover the stars with the release paper from the star die cuts.

After peeling off the release sheet from the Peace on Earth die cut, cover the starts with the release paper from the star die cuts. In this way, you can cover the sticky die cut with Silver Sand Microfine Glitter and rub in the glitter. Remove the star release paper and then add Sand Dunes Microfine Glitter on the stars. I also went ahead and did one of the stars with Sand Dunes and 2 others in Silver Sand.

Making the stars a different color makes the words pop more.

I then adhered the other 4 layers to the die. The background is sponged using Distress Inks (Broken China, Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire) – the keeping the center a lighter blue. I adhered the layer onto an A2 white card base, finishing the front with a white gel pen for stars/snow.

The layered die cuts add a lot of strength and dimension to the card while still laying flat.
Loving the glitter against the dark blue background.

Thanks for looking! I wish you could see how shiny the lettering is and how deep the blue looks in real life. I liked this so much I made a very similar card but using the new Flourished Deer die set. I did not use glitter but added a wreath around his neck using tiny leaves I trimmed from the Leafy Branch Die and tiny dots of the pearl rose Craft drops.

Thanks for stopping by –– I hope you enjoyed my tutorial!

A Way With Words

Brackets and Watercolours Thanks Card

October 23, 2015

Hi!  It’s Suzanne Cannon here from Quietfire Design with a project using a fun technique that works with almost all A Way With Words dies and Elizabeth Craft Designs Tags & More dies.

Thanks_Bracketed_Watercolour_Suzanne-10-15w_sig (003)

By die cutting one of the Tags & More decorative inserts on either side of the card you can create brackets that hug and frame the word.  (Each Tags & More die set has several of these decorative overlays.)

Instructions:

1. Form an 8” x 5.5” tent-fold card base from red cardstock.

2.  Cut a 6.75” x 4” panel from watercolour paper.  Die cut a small maple leaf and Thanks from another piece of  watercolour paper. Use a ball stylus to score veins into leaf

Watercolour_Thanks_3_sig (003)

3. Use a wet-in-wet technique to randomly colour the watercolour paper panel, die cut leaf and Thanks with Distress Ink Re-inkers.  Allow to dry.  Curl the leaf with your fingers.

Watercolour_Thanks_4_sig (003)4. Mat the watercolour panel with black cardstock leaving a narrow border.

Watercolour_Thanks_5_sig (003) 5. Cut a 6.5 x 4” (approximate) panel from black cardstock. To create first bracket opening, tape leaves insert die to the left end cardstock with removable tape and die cut. Follow steps 6 – 9 to create the side of the bracket.

Watercolour_Thanks_7_sig (003)

6. Use a soapstone pencil to lightly draw a straight line across the black panel. (Don’t press into the cardstock, the line is temporary and will be removed in step 8.)

Watercolour_Thanks_6_sig (003)

7. Position Thanks  to determine the space you will need to leave for your word.

Watercolour_Thanks_8_sig (003)

8. Using the soapstone pencil mark, align the leaves insert die on the right side of the word.  Use removable tape to hold in place and die cut. It should be the mirror image of the leaves cut in step 5. Use a clean soft rag to wipe off the soapstone pencil mark. Watercolour_Thanks_9_sig (003) 9. If needed, trim the black cardstock panel so that the distance from the leaves and the ends of the rectangle is the same at both sides. Mat the black rectangle on the watercolour panel with foam tape. The final size of the die cut panel is 6.25 x 3.5”.

10. Use the fine pointed scissors and tweezers to cut slivers of foam tape and adhere Thanks between the brackets. Adhere the maple leaf with foam tape, positioning it as shown in the photo so it extends upward at the end of the swirl on the letter ‘k’.

11. Adhere assembled panels to card base with foam tape.

Elizabeth Craft Designs has many Tags & More sets with wonderful decorative inserts that will work really well for this technique.  Here is one using Believe and one of the inserts from Tags & More 9 Sparkle (1077).

Believe2_Bracketed_Suzanne_sig

Enjoy mixing and matching your A Way With Words dies and any of those versatile Tags & More insert (decorative overlay) dies that make such great brackets!
Happy Creating!

Suzanne
