Hello crafters! Mary here with a card full of shimmery goodness! I used Susan’s Garden Coneflower die to make a colorful version of Cornflowers (not to be confused with Coneflowers) for the front of the card. The Silks acrylic paints add shimmer, while their translucent nature allows my stamping to show through. Opening the card reveals an explosion of butterflies!
Making the Card
1. On white cardstock, stamp music and words in black waterproof ink.
2. Randomly paint Silks over stamped areas – one section using Snapdragon, Jasmine, Wisteria, and Sky Blue (for flower petals & stamen) and another using Pretty Peridot, Vintage Mint, and Black Emerald (for leaves).
3. Using Susan’s Garden – Coneflower, die cut petal clusters (10) and stamen (2) from pink/purple/blue sections and leaves (6) from green sections. Paint backsides in matching colors.
4. Shape petals on molding pad using Susan’s Garden 4 Piece All Metal Tool Set. Use either the loop tool or one of the ball styluses to rub petals and leaves, then draw a line down the middle with the leaf tool (pointed end). Glue petal clusters offset from each other – I used 5 in each flower to make them really full. I didn’t cut the stamen in half as in the video, I just added glue to the tips then dipped them in Wow embossing powder, Opaque Primary Azure (blue); let dry before rolling them up. Glue each stamen to the center of a flower.
Here is a video showing how Susan made a Coneflower (similar):
5. Using Garden Notes – Bugs & Butterflies, die cut a bunch of butterflies from scraps of pink/purple/blue sections of painted & stamped cardstock. Paint backsides as well. Squirt some Liquid Pearls on a craft sheet or scrap paper and apply to wings with a small brush (see Supplies for colors). In a similar manner, use black Enamel Accents to paint bug bodies and antenna. Once dry, gently bend wings up on both sides of each butterfly body.
6. Die cut Rectangle Pull Card base from blue cardstock 7.25 x 5.5 inches. See instructions on packaging. From fuchsia cardstock, die cut large rectangle using decorator piece. Die cut two purple rectangles with small rectangle decorator piece. Dry brush pink/purple/blue paint to add more color to small rectangles. Adhere these to card as shown.
7. Using long edge die from Katie Flourish Frame Edges, cut two from purple paper. Add Wink of Stella for shimmer. Adhere to card as shown.
8. Die cut pull tab (Rectangle Pull Card) from blue cardstock. Adhere with strong adhesive inside card as shown (see also instructions). Cut thin strips of plastic packaging. Bend end of each strip, long enough to hide under pull tab, apply strong glue, then adhere under pull tab (glue only under tab, let strips be free on front). See photo below. Add several – I also added one at a different angle after the others dried. Reinforce with small piece of cardstock (e.g. cut down from another pull tab). Cut strips to different lengths. Adhere butterflies as shown.
9. Adhere flowers to front; add leaves, enamel dots, and sequins as shown.
Happy Wednesday and Happy July! It’s Karen Burniston here with a different type of Wednesday post. As the Pop it Ups collection grows larger, it may be a little overwhelming to understand all the different mechanisms and how they are different. Today I’ll explain it all!
It’s a good ol’ fashioned Pop it Ups Category Breakdown! (cheer! applause! fireworks!) For each different category of die I have a visual reference of the available choices in that category plus any coordinating dies/folders shown below the die. (Pssst – want to make yourself a catalog/wish list? Got a printer?)
Pivot Cards
Pivot cards were designed to be a quick and easy interactive card. A fun feature of Pivot Cards is that the same decoration on the front of the card then pivots inside as the card is opened. This provides double-duty decoration, saving time and materials. Pivot Cards work by lining up the alignment nubs on the die over the fold of any size card, anywhere along the fold. This allows for complete customization of card size, shape and pivot card placement. There are currently six available styles of Pivot Cards.
Pull cards are Z-fold flip or swing cards with a few extra features. They have tuck slots to keep the card closed to avoid an accidental reveal. They also have alignment nubs and the ability to cut the mechanism anywhere along the fold of any size card. They also have an optional pop-up element – the Circle comes with a spiral pop-up die and the Rectangle comes with a spinner pop-up die. Pull Cards differ from Pivot Cards because in this case, the item flips over when the card is opened, so you have front/back decorations. There are currently two available styles of Pull Cards.
Whereas Pivot and Pull Cards are immediately identifiable as interactive cards from the front of the card, the General Pop-ups are the traditional pop-ups where the recipient has no idea that something will happen until they open the card. These are the traditional “magic trick” cards, since they offer the most surprise to the recipient. All of the dies in this category have alignment nubs allowing them to be placed anywhere along the fold of any size card. They are viewed best when the card is open to 90 degrees. There are currently six available styles of General Pop-up Cards.
Pop Stands are another type of General Pop-up card, but whereas the General Pop-ups are viewed in cards at 90 degrees, Pop Stands are viewed in cards that open all the way flat to 180 degrees. Another feature of Pop Stands is that the main item (tower, tub, barn, hay) is independent of the pop stand mechanism so it can be used on its own for flat cards, layouts, place cards, 3D items, etc. A Pop Stand die comes included with each design, and when lined up over the fold of any size card, anywhere along the fold, will cut tabs to fit the decorative item and turn it into a pop-up. There are currently four available styles of Pop Stand Cards.
Accordion albums are a special category of Pop it Ups dies because they do not have alignment nubs and you do not line them up over the fold of a card. Rather, you use the Accordion die to cut a single page of your card/album and there is an integrated tab system to connect as many pages together as you desire. This makes the Accordions very versatile, as the same die can be used for a quick 2-page card or a 20-page masterpiece. In addition, each Accordion comes with decorator dies included, so right out of the package you’ll have what you need to start making incredible interactive cards and albums to impress and delight your friends and family. There are currently seven available styles of Accordions and more styles in the works.
Add-on dies (separate purchase) that are sized to coordinate with the Accordions (but can also be used on their own to make flat frames) are the Frame Edges. Frame Edges work by cutting four of each piece (square/circle designs) or two of each long/short piece (rectangle designs) and lining them up around the perimeter of the Accordion for fun decorations. Each Frame Edge packaging lists which Accordions it fits. The easiest way to adhere Frame Edges is by using ECD Double-sided adhesive on the back of the paper/cardstock before die cutting, so that the frame edges can be applied like stickers.
The Characters all feature similar construction, with a shadow layer and a detail layer, and then accessory dies, like eyes, tails, etc. Using ECD double-sided adhesive on the back of the paper or cardstock before die cutting makes assembly of the Characters very quick and easy. A signature look to the Characters are their big cartoon eyes, but they are also easy to style with other eyes for a completely different look. There are currently eleven available styles of Characters and four Props styles.
Edge dies are decorative dies that cut just the edge of the item so the height is customizable by the user. It also allows for easy decorative-edges cards. There are currently four available styles of Edge Dies.
Accessory dies are flat designs meant to complement the interactive cards and/or be used independently. There are currently five available styles of Accessory dies and five available styles of Embossing Folders.
In Spring 2015 I released my first set of Clear Stamps – the Farm Greetings Clear Stamps – meant to coordinate with the Farm collection as well as fit some of the other interactive dies. Look for more clear stamps coming soon!
So there you have it! The entire Pop it Ups Collection broken down by category with a ton of video and inspiration links. Speaking of inspiration links, I post cards daily on the Karen Burniston, Designer Facebook Page.
Hi, it’s Karen Burniston with the June Pop it Ups Designer Challenge. Each month I challenge my Designer Challenge team to use Pop it Ups dies for a specific theme. This month the theme is What’s in a Name? I challenged the team to incorporate a Pop it Ups die corresponding to their first and last initials. They were allowed to get creative with how they chose dies, as long as it could be defended. So, for example, my initials are KB and I chose to style Whiskers the Cat as a “Kitty” in a beach-themed card using the Adirondack Chair, Palm Tree & Pail and the Beach Edges.
Here is the video tutorial:
When the card is closed you see Whiskers sitting in the house looking longingly at a beach scene framed on the wall. The caption (computer generated) gives a hint to Whiskers’ future . . . after all, if you can dream it, you can do it! My thought was that this could be a nice congratulatory card for any reason – promotion, graduation, engagement, new baby, new job, dream vacation, etc. It’s about visualizing something improbable and then making it happen.
The video tutorial walks through all the specifics of assembling the beach dies plus styling Whiskers the Cat with different expressions. Using the detail/shadow outlining technique is a great way to change the facial features of any of the Character dies.
To add a Character inside the chair, the video explains the technique for placing an L-support through one of the slats of the chair. This is my preferred method, as it puts no stress on the chair folds themselves. However, it is also possible to animate items inside the chair by building a simple box pop-up into the seat of the chair and/or by using the Spinner die from the Rectangle Pull Card to create an angled platform. (Donna Wright does this brilliantly in her mer-dog card that you’ll see later on in this post) Here is a side view of the L-support method from the video:
The Farm Greetings Clear Stamps offer plenty of generic greetings that are not farm puns, and by selectively inking certain phrases, you can create custom greetings, like this one:
Now let’s take a look at the fabulous creations of the Designer Challenge Team plus guest designer Sandy.
Frances Byrne chose the “fly” from the Hoppy the Frog die set (Frog also counts, or Farm Greetings Clear Stamps) plus Brownie the Cow (or Barn) and created this colorful and inviting farm-themed birthday card. I l just love her pebble path, the hay blob used as hair for Brownie, and especially the fly on Brownie’s nose. So cute!
Fran Sabad created a wonderful patriotic 4th of July album. She used “frame edges” (in this case the Star Fancy Frame Edges) for her “F” and the Star Accordion for her “S”. Make sure you click over to her blog post to learn more about the flag banner and the barn star styling, plus see the front of the album.
Summer Hills-Painter had an extra challenge with a hyphenated name, but had no trouble combining the Spiral Circle Pull Card, Hay There Pop Stand and Props2 (along with Virgil the Pig and Farm Greetings Clear Stamps) into this fun birthday card. The pinks/reds look so great with the teal green. Great color scheme!
Karen Aicken went hog wild with this amazing 3-panel card featuring the Barn on the front (love that pen detailing on the edges of the cloud and hay) and Katie Label Pivot Card (with All Seasons Tree) inside the card. She used the Farm Greetings Clear Stamps and Virgil the Pig (notice the toupee) as well. Fun!
Raquel Mason got very clever with her beachy accordion. Her R was covered nicely by Ring Accordion, Ring Frame Edges 1, and Rocky the Crab. Then she added the “Mask” from Props3 for her second initial. Love this! The “shell-a-brate” greeting is so clever.
Kelly Booth created a birthday card with bright fun colors. She used the Katie Label Pivot Card and the accessory dies from the Butterfly Pivot Card for her initials and then added the script Happy Birthday and Butterfly Accessory dies as well. Lovely!
Sandy Diller joins us this month with a very clever Spiral Circle Pull Card with Dutch the Fox. She also used the Barn, Hay There and Cheepers the Chicken dies to make a fox in the henhouse card. Brilliant!
Caz Counsell made her son Caiden a very special birthday card. She used Cheepers the Chicken and Brownie the Cow along with three Lucy Labels, Props 1, Props 2, Virgil the Pig, and more! Who doesn’t love a chicken with a bow tie?!
Frances Byrne had lots to choose from with her initials. For her second card she used Hoppy the Frog and the Bathtub Pop Stand die. She also incorporated the Paris Edges and the party blower from Props 2 as a frog tongue. Brilliant!
Shelly Hickox got extremely clever and adapted the House Pivot Card into a garden planter box and filled it with beautiful flowers, including some cut with the All Seasons Tree die. The Lots of Pops poles worked perfectly for feet and she used barn doors for molding details. Amazing!
Fran Sabad made this gorgeous Fancy Accordion using the Star Fancy Frame Edges and the matching butterfly label peel-off stickers. I love those little pearls on the antennae and flower centers. The colors are superb.
Talk about the perfect man card! Karen Aicken created this card for her husband’s recent retirement. She used the Katie Label Accordion (front of the card) and the Adirondack Chair for her initials. It was such a clever idea to incorporate the glossy lake paper and cut the pop-up right into the scene. Brilliant!
Raquel Mason made this sweet friendship card using the Rectangle Pull Card and the Mouse from Whiskers the Cat. She used the spinner to animate her greeting. What a cute card!
Kelly Booth created the perfect metal barn! I just love all the textural fun of this Katie Label Accordion using Brownie the Cow, Cheepers the Chicken and the Barn Pop Stand dies. She used Shimmer Sheetz to create the metal barn. Perfection!
Donna Wright made a beach scene for her card and used Buster the Dog and the Waves from the Beach Edges for her name dies. She also got very clever and converted Buster into a mer-dog by making a mermaid tail from the Palm Tree die. Love it!
Helen Cryer has such a way with colors and patterns. Her House Pivot Card using Brownie the Cow is a perfect example. The front of the card is just as beautiful as the interior, featuring the Farm Greetings Clear Stamps embossed in white powder on pink cardstock.
Shelly Hickox made this wonderful shaker card using theSpiral Circle Pull Card and the Happy Birthday dies. Notice how the tag lines up over the tuck slot and the clever use of the “th” from Birthday to make the 4th part of the greeting. Shelly includes videos of her cards opening and closing on her blog posts, so definitely check it out!
Caz Counsell made a second card for the challenge featuring Brownie the Cow and the All Seasons Tree Clouds for her initials. She used the Lorna Label die to animate her super cute pink cow (I believe this is where strawberry milk comes from!) Also note Brownie’s cute flower, eyelashes and pen detailing.
So there you have it. Such variety in the ideas this month – as varied as the names themselves! Join us next month on July 15, 2015 for the next Pop it Ups Designer Challenge with a theme of “Homegrown Holidays”. The team will be showing Christmas (or other winter holidays) in July ideas.
Hello friends – Karen Aicken here. I love figuring out ways for my dies to do double duty, as with the Rectangle Pull Card. Today I’ve turned it into a Stand-Up card! Let’s get started.
1. Cut light blue card stock 7-1/2 x 6″ and score the centre of the long side at 3-3/4″. Centre the Rectangle Pull card on the fold line and run it through your die cutting machine *Note: place the top cutting pad so the notch on the die does not cut. You are only cutting the Rectangle and about 1/4″ past the centre score line. Turn the card base so it opens from the bottom instead of the side.
2. Die cut Poppy’s shadow from black card stock. Cut a strip of peach patterned paper 3 x 6″, and adhere a 3 x 6″ strip of Elizabeth Craft Designs Transparent Double Sided Tape to the back. Cut a Poppy the Owl detail layer from this piece and adhere to the black shadow. Place the peach beak back into the opening on the black shadow. Die cut the eyeballs and beak from white card stock that also has Elizabeth Craft Designs Double Sided Tape on the back. Colour the beak with an orange marker and adhere the eyeballs and beak to Poppy. Cut one of the remaining peach circles in half and adhere over the white eyeballs to create eyelids. Adhere a black Glitter Dot Peel-Off on each of Poppy’s eyes over the opening in the white eyeball. Save the remaining peach patterned paper for step 6.
3. Now die cut the rest of the pieces for the inside of the card as follows. Cut a 6 x 1-1/4″ strip of green patterned paper and die cut the top edge with the Grass from the Outdoor Edges. Cut a rectangle of patterned paper 5-3/4 x 3-1/2″ and a white rectangle using the rectangle Decorator Die that comes with the Rectangle Pull Card. Die cut a green solid party hat and a white pom-pom and adhere together. Die cut 2 large and one small cloud from white card stock, using the All Seasons Tree. Die cut the spinner from the same blue card stock as the card base. Die cut the Happy Birthday from patterned card stock and adhere Transparent/Silver Glitter Dots to Poppy’s Party Hat. Assemble the inside of the card, using the top photo for placement.
4. Cut a patterned paper strip 6 x 2-1/4″. This is going to go over the ‘easel’ part of the card, covering the opening. It’s not necessary to cover the opening, but for this card I preferred the look. Apply your adhesive on the card frame, and not on the patterned paper.
5. Adhere the strip as shown, trimming the long edges even if needed.
6. Finish the front by cutting a white card stock strip 4-1/8 x 1″ and notch the ends to create a banner. Die cut letters to spell SMILE from the same adhesive backed patterned paper as in step 2 and adhere them to the banner. Add Glitter Dots as shown, then use foam tape to adhere the banner to the blue rectangle. Die cut one large cloud and two small ones. Add the clouds as shown, using foam tape on one of the small clouds.
I hope you will try this technique – there are so many fun scenes you can create inside these Stand-Up/Pull Cards!
Welcome to our March Designers’ Challenge. This month’s theme is Flower Power. With the start of spring, we thought the theme would be just perfect. Flowers make us all happy and there are so many varieties and such a wide array of beautiful colors. We hope these eight projects will make you happy, too, and inspire you to create some flowers at your craft table. Don’t forget to check out our Flower Power PRIZE GIVEAWAY! (Details are at the end of this blog post.)
Our first project for today’s challenge is this beautiful Rectangle Pull Card by Frances Byrne featuring the Victorian Flowers. She die cut the solid flowers from Shimmer Sheetz and the flower overlays from cardstock and added some Silk Microfine Glitter. For the leaves she used the Big Triple Leaf die and for the sentiment one of Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s beautiful stamps, No Winter Lasts Forever. For instructions, visit Frances’s blogHERE.
Raquel Mason created a flower Stand Up Helper card using one of the Stand Up Helper dies from Stand Up Helpers Set 1. She decorated the card using the Daisy, the Small Butterfly and the Ladybug. For the tag she used the basic tag shape die from Tags & More 7 – Vine. Love this cute card by Raquel. Visit her blog HERE for more info and instructions.
Next project is from Marsha Valk who created this fun Flower Power Birdhouse Hanger. For the flowers and leaves she used Bunch of Flowers 1 and the Triple Leaf Set cut from felt. The roof of the birdhouse is Shimmer Sheetz embossed and lightly sanded. For the body of the butterfly she used Shimmer Sheetz as well and the butterfly silhouette is cut from white cardstock. A beautiful hanger like this will sure brighten up your house! For full instructions and supply list, visit Marsha’s blog HERE.
Another stunning project to decorate your home! Angela Beavers created a beautiful wall hanger using Tags & More 8 – Lattice, Victorian Flower Set 1, Hardware 1 Hinges, and Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s stamp called “Let us be grateful.” The tiny flowers are from the Garden Notes – Hydrangea; they give the tag even more detail. Love how the different dies are used. Find instructions on Angela’s blogHERE.
Debra Hensley created this beautiful card featuring the Garden Notes Hydrangea. The vase is cut from White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz using our Asian Vase die, embossed with the Lots of Dots folder. The pattern paper she picked perfectly matches the soft colors of the hydrangea. To finish the card she added some Gold Borders Peel-offs for the border lines and the corners. It’s a beautiful card that can be used for many occasions. For more info, visit Debra’s blog HERE.
You might have already seen our next project, Judi Kauffman’s No-Sew Flower Power Wristlet. It was posted on Saturday, March 28 on our blog. We just love the bit, bold Shimmer Sheetz flowers. It is a fun and easy project and requires only a very few ingredients. To see what these ingredients are, visit Judi’s blog post for instructions and supply list HERE.
Candy Spiegel created this bright colorful Get Well Soon card using the solid Victorian Flowers from Victorian Flower Set 1, Victorian Flower Overlay Set 2 and Bunch of Flowers Set 1. She created stencils using the solid dies for the dark pink flowers in the background. For the light pink flowers she used Shimmer Sheetz and Velvet Adhesive Sheets. See more HERE.
Last projects for today’s challenge is this beautiful Stand Up Helper card created by Els van de Burgt featuring the Crystal Flower dies, the Hardware 1 – Hinges and the Stand Up Helper 3 – Hinges. She used a fun technique with scraps from a Glitter Peel-off sheet and Silk Microfine Glitter to create the flowers. For instructions, visit our blog post from yesterday HERE.

I have a fun Rectangle Pull card to show you today! I was playing with the Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel Off Stickers and trying them on different mediums. I played with coloring them on sticky back canvas and discovered it can be really fun but works much better if you apply a light layer of gesso to the canvas first. See tutorial below.
1. Cut a piece of white card stock 6″ x 11″ and score in the middle at 5″.5″ . Place the rectangle Pull Card Die on the center lining up the nubs on the fold and run through your die cutting machine. Fold the Rectangle Pull Card and trim down so the card in the closed position is 4″ 3/4″ by 5″ 1/2″.
2. Unfold the card face up and water color random circles all over this piece, I used Koi Watercolors by Sakura but you can use any watercolors for this.
3. While you have the watercolors handy, cut a small rectangle from the rectangle Pull Card set and watercolor random circles on this piece as well. When dry stamp your greeting onto this piece and set aside.
4. Take a piece of sticky back canvas about 5″ by 4″ and cover it with a light layer of Gesso and let dry. Using the Flower Vases 1 (2590) Peel Off Stickers in Gold remove one Rectangle with Vases, one Med Circle and one Flower with no stem and place onto the sticky back canvas. The Gesso gives it some tooth so the markers do not bleed. Color using markers of your choice. For mine I used Tombows. Cut out the shapes staying close to the gold edge and set aside.
5. Using the Rectangle Accordion die cut two of these from red cardstock (all you need are the centers so it can be from scraps) Snip the connection points and tabs off so you just have two large rectangles .
6. To assemble the card, first remove the backing from the flower vases sticky back canvas and adhere to one of the large red rectangles. Put some Elizabeth Craft Designs Double Sided Tape on the back of the red rectangle and place it onto the center front of the card.
7. Put some strips of ECD Double Sided Tape on the back of the other rectangle and place it on the inside of the card lining it up with the red rectangle on the front so it does not show when the card is closed.
8. Place the watercolored sentiment piece in the center of the large red rectangle on the inside of the card.
9. Take a Scrap Piece of White cardstock about 4″ by 3″ and back it with ECD Double Sided Adhesive and cut the Speech Bubble from the Rectangle Accordion Set and adhere to the top of the red rectangle greeting piece. Using the same die, cut a yellow “hello” with yellow card stock backed with ECD adhesive and place it onto the speech bubble.
10. Remove the backing from the medium canvas dot and place on to the closure tab on the card. Remove the backing from the Flower and place to the right on the speech bubble.
Your card should look something like this!
I Hope you have enjoyed the tutorial today, if you have any questions please leave me a comment below and I will answer. Thank You….
Debra here today to help you get a jump start on your Valentine cards for those special people in your life. Valentine’s Day is just a week away and the Rectangle Pull Card makes a quick and easy base to build a PURRfect card with glittery details that’s sure to bring a smile to your Valentine.
Here’s how I made this card:
1. Cut a piece of cat-themed double sided cardstock to 7 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Fold in half then unfold and die cut with the Rectangle Pull Card die, lining up the tabs in the center fold. Fold on the score lines to create the card base.
2. Die cut the additional pieces – Whiskers the Cat, fish bones, mice, MEOW letters and one white and one patterned decorator rectangle. Die cut a large and small heart from the Heart Pivot Card from red cardstock with transparent double-sided adhesive adhered to it. Die cut the collar, lips and bow from the same red cardstock. Glitter with True Red Microfine Glitter. Die cut the whiskers and shadow layer from white cardstock covered with transparent double-sided adhesive and then glitter with Chocolate Silk Microfine Glitter. Die cut two Spinners from both the red and white cardstock. (The Spinner die makes the hearts pop up).
3. Print the sentiment on white cardstock and die cut with the rectangle decorator die. Ink edges of card base, both rectangle decorator pieces and the detail layer of Whiskers the Cat with brown ink.
4. Assemble Whiskers. Add inked detail layer to glittered shadow layer. Add eyes, nose, glittered whiskers, bow and collar with a red glitter dot in the center of Whisker’s collar tag. Adhere to decorator rectangle on front on foam adhesive. Add fish bones, mice and red glitter border peel-offs. Here is a close up for placement:
5. Adhere the letters to spell MEOW down the left side flap. Add red glitter border peel-offs on right and left side edges.
6. Adhere sentiment rectangle to inside flap. Add mice and glittered lips.
7. Add Spinner toward the top of the fold. Add glittered hearts to the Spinner. Cut one fishbone in half and trim off ribs. Place on glittered hearts to simulate an arrow going through both hearts. Adhere smaller glittered heart to inside of card with an additional fishbone to complete.
I hope this card will inspire you to use the new dies listed below and create a PURRfect Valetine for that someone special in your life!
It’s Frances Byrne here today with my first Pop It Ups Wednesday blog post. For my card today I decided to use the new Rectangle Pull Card to create a Gatefold Rectangle Pull Card with a birthday theme.
Here is how I created my card:
1. Cut a piece of card or designer paper at 12 inches x 6 inches. Score along the 12 inch side at 4 1/2 inches and 7 1/2 inches.
2. Draw a light pencil line 1 inch in from the top and bottom edge of the card (you will be erasing this line after die cutting.
3. Line the main die from the Rectangle Pull Card so that the centre nubs of the die are positioned on the 4 1/2 inch score line and the outside edges of the rectangle are lined up with the pencil line. (Note: This is important).
4. Position the top cutting plate so that it lines up just past the centre line of the die, this enables you to die cut the rectangle portion of the die without die cutting the closure notch of the die. Run through die cutting machine.
5. Remove the die from your card and place the die on the opposite end of the card so that the centre nubs of the die line up with the 7 1/2 inch score line and again making sure that the rectangle portion of the die are lined up within the pencil line. Position the top cutting plate as we did in step 4 so we do not die cut the closure notch.
6. Fold the two centre score lines as a valley fold and the score lines that were created when we die cut the Rectangle Pull Card are a mountain fold. Erase all pencil lines from your card.
7. Using white card die cut two rectangles using the large rectangle die from the Rectangle Pull Card. Use foam tape to layer these rectangle panels to the outer rectangle of the card as per photo above.
8. Using colors of your choice, die cut all the pieces for Whiskers the Cat and assemble as per photo. (Note: for easier layering of all the die cut pieces adhere Elizabeth Craft Designs Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of all the card that you will be using to die cut all your layering pieces). You will need to die cut and assemble two cats.
9. From the Props 2 – Party die set die cut the pieces for the party hat and blower and add these to each of the cats. (adhere ECD Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of your card before die cutting). Use foam tape to layer the cats to the white rectangle panels of the card.
10. Using orange card die cut two of the postage frames and from white card two of the small rectangles from the Rectangle Pull Card set. Layer the white rectangle pieces under the postage frame.
11. Using the Alphabet 1 – Caps & the Numbers & More die sets, die cut “H”, “B”, “2” & “U” from blue card which has ECD Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape added to the back of it. Add the “H” and “B” to one of the postage panels and the “2” and “U” to the other and use foam tape to position these to the side panels of the front of the card as per the photo above.
12. Cut a piece of orange card what is just under 3 inches x 6 inches and a piece of white card that is 2 3/4 inches x 5 3/4 inches. Adhere the white to the orange card and then adhere this to the centre of the inside of the card.
13. Adhere ECD Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of a strip of orange card and blue card and die cut the Alphabet 1 – Caps twice from each color. Adhere the letters to the white panel to create your greeting. (To get my greeting even I drew a pencil line 1 inch from the top and bottom and then 1 1/4 inches from the bottom line up until I had my 4 lines. For the hyphens I just cut a piece long enough from one of the unused letters from the die cut alphabet). Die cut a mouse from the Whiskers the Cat set and add to the bottom of the centre panel.
14. Die cut 4 party balloons from the Props 2 – Party die set using the reverse side of the remaining designer paper and the 4 squiggles in Kraft Card from the Rectangle Pull Card die set. Add the squiggle to the balloons and add them to the back of the rectangle panel using foam tape.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.
Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel Mason here with Pop It Ups Wednesday! I see so many possibilities with Karen Burniston’s new Pop Stand dies. Here’s just one way to make to make an additional pop up element in your card. I added a Mommy Rubber Ducky watching over her babies as they frolic in the bathtub. Let me show you how I made this card.
1. Cut pink cardstock at 5.5 x 8.5 score at 4.25.
2. Place Pop Stand die on the score line of card base as shown in photo below.
3. Cut pattern paper at 3.5 x 5.5 and adhere to front. Cut pattern paper at (2) 1.5 x 5.5 and adhere inside top and bottom of card. Use photo for placement.
4. Die cut the following pieces shown in photo:
From Rectangle Pull Card: pink cardstock (1) spinner and (3) small rectangles – pattern paper (1) large rectangle – green cardstock (3) frames.
From Bathtub Pop Stand: pattern paper (2) bathtubs -white cardstock (3) sets of claw feet and (2) bathtub top portion only cut along the score line -White Iris Shimmer Sheetz (2) row of bubbles and (1) set of loose bubbles – Silver Metallic Shimmer Sheetz (1) faucet – yellow cardstock (5) small ducks.
From Rubber Ducky: yellow cardstock (1) duck and (1) wing – orange cardstock (1) beak – black cardstock (1) eye.
