A Camping Hippo

June 25, 2019

Hey Everyone! It is EK here and I am popping in with this fun camping hippo themed card using the new Tent die set and Hippo/Rhino die set. I am actually at Girl Scout camp this week teaching crafts to campers, so it seemed only fitting to create a girl-scout-inspired camping card today!

I snuck in a full video today sharing how I colored the die cuts using both distress inks and copic markers.

Step One: Die cut the Tent die set out of 90lb White soft finish cardstock. Color tent pieces with distress ink.

Step Two: Blend distress ink onto a 6×6 card frame using the Earth & Sky stencil and distress ink.

Step Three: Die cut the Hippo die set and color the pieces with Copic markers. Assemble the pieces with Kids Choice Glue.

Step Four: Assemble all the pieces onto the card frame using both clear Double Sided Adhesive and Kids Choice Glue. Stamp a sentiment onto the card frame using the new Build Your Own Sentiments 1.

I hope you enjoyed checking out my camping hippo. Are you camping this summer with your friends or family? Let us know in the comments below, and which of the new critters you would use to highlight you camping trip in a craft project. Until then, Happy crafting!

Let The Adventure Begin Card

May 30, 2019

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Let the Adventure Begin Card which features Joset Design’s awesome new release.

To create this card, I’ve used some new dies from Joset Designs, dies from Els van de Burgt Studio as well as dies and patterned paper from ModaScrap. I hope you enjoy my tutorial!

Step 1. From the Dashing Squares die, you’ll need the 4 3/4″ and 5 1/4″ dies. Die cut the 4 3/4″ Dashing Square out of light kraft cardstock. Die cut the 5 1/4″ Dashing Square out of a piece of patterned paper from the Magic Mountain Paper Pack. Ink the edges of both squares using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step 2. Die cut the 3/8″ Stitched Fishtail Banner out of light kraft cardstock. Cut the banner down to 2 3/4″. Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Let the Adventure Begin sentiment and stamp onto the banner. Ink the edges of the banner using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step 3. From the Camping Accessories die, die cut the elements for the back pack out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Peeled Paint Distress Ink over the entire surface of the back pack. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the pockets and handle. Adhere the pockets and the handle to the backpack. Use a black gel pen to draws dashes or a line on the pockets.

Step 4. From the Camping Accessories die, die cut the flames and logs out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink over the entire surface of the flames. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the logs. Adhere the two flames together. Adhere the logs together in a “X”. Adhere the flames to the middle of the logs.

Step 5. The last element that needs to be die cut from the Camping Accessories die is the lantern. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink over the entire surface of the light part of the lantern. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Candied Apple Distress Ink over the entire surface of the lantern. Adhere the light to the inside of the lantern.

Step 6. From the Tent die, die cut all the elements out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Peeled Paint Distress Ink over the entire surface of the tent. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the poles. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Hickory Smoke Distress Ink over the entire surface of the tent picks. For the inside tent piece, just draw a dotted line down the middle of the triangle.

Step 7. Adhere the triangle to the back of the tent, where the opening is. Use a piece of adhesive tape to adhere the flaps down to the tent. Adhere the poles to the side of the tent.

Step 8. Adhere the 4 3/4″ dashing square to the 5 1/4″ dashing square. Adhere the Let the Adventure Begin banner 1/8″ from the bottom of the 5 1/4″ dashing square. Make sure the banner sits all the way to the right hand side of the 5 1/4″ dashing square.

Step 9. Foam square the tent 1 1/8″ from the bottom and all the way to the top of the 4 3/4″ dashing square. Adhere the tent picks to the bottom of the poles.

Step 10. Adhere the fire to the left hand side of the 4 3/4″ dashing square, the flame will sit slightly overtop of the tent.

Step 11. Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the backpack to the right hand side of the tent. Use adhesive and foam square to adhere the light to the left of the back pack. The lantern will sit slightly on the backpack. Cut a cardbase from a piece of light kraft cardstock that measures 5 1/2″ x 11″, score at 5 1/2″. Roll the corners up in the top right and bottom left of the squares. Adhere the card front to the cardbase.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Let the Adventure Begin Card.
