Two Love Projects by Riikka Kovasin

February 5, 2017

Hello there! It’s Riikka here today, guesting again for the Elizabeth Craft Designs team! How have you been lately? As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I created two love-filled projects this time. As you can see from the top of the post, one of them is a card, but I also used same idea and products to make a layout as well.

Without further ado, let me show how I created the card.

Step 1. First cut three different pieces for the first layer of the card. Cut a piece of Perfect Pink Soft Finish Cardstock and use the Heart Background die to make it filled with hearts. Then cut a piece larger than the heart piece from White Soft Finish Cardstock, bit enough to add a border. Mine is 11cm x 17cm. Last but not least, cut a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet and measure really carefully that it’s just slightly smaller than the pink heart piece so the edge is hidden under the frame.

Step 2. Layer the pieces together. First adhere the adhesive sheet to the white piece, center it width-wise and leave as much edge to the top as to the side. There’s more white at the bottom of the card than at the top. Then peel the protective (release) sheet off to expose the adhesive and carefully place the heart piece carefully on top. Put the release sheet onto the heart piece and firmly press the heart piece. Sprinkle with Solar Gold Silk Microfine Glitter to cover the exposed adhesive. Pour the excess back into the jar and polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle. (Careful! Don’t tear the heart piece!)

Step 3. As I’m all about mixed media and using different mediums in my creations, naturally I couldn’t do this card without some paints. Next, take some lovely shiny acrylic paint and white gesso and use a palette knife to make a paint-y background for your focal point. Start with the acrylic paint and last add some gesso to the mix as well.

Step 4. Now add another paint layer on top of the first one. Use the Medallion stencil together with gesso and create a pattern on top of the paint and on parts of the glitter,  too.

Step 5. To lure the eye in, use a darker shade of the Soft Finish Cardstock and the Entwined Ovals die. Cut the smaller oval once and adhere to your card.

Step 6. Cut the focal flowers and adhere to the card. Use White Soft Finish Cardstock and the”Lacy Poppies die as shown, or your ModaScrap favorite leaves or other flowers if you prefer. Use foam dots under the center of the blooms and shape the petals upward to add a bit of dimension, but use glue to adhere the stems.

Step 7. Finish your card with a stamped or handwritten greeting.

Here you can see the same background idea and details in use for a layout. The difference here is the way I added the pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet. While in the card I made very sure that the adhesive covered the whole design, here I played with smaller pieces of adhesive and created a block-style look to the background.

Thank you for your visit today! Wishing you a love-filled Valentine’s Day!
