Wet Stencil Technique, Do-It-Yourself Background

Hi Everyone, it’s Tina here today from the Die Cut Design Team. By now you have seen many projects using the Distress Oxides on Soft Finish Cardstock. I have tried out many kinds of cardstock and none come close to the effect on SFC. I want to show you another technique combining Soft Finish Cardstock, Distress Oxides and stencils. Below you will find the steps to replicate this card.

• Step 1 – Cut White Soft Finish Cardstock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score and fold in half to form a horizontal side-fold card base. Finished size:  4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ (A2)
• Step 2 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock 4″ x 5 1/4″. Ink it completely with Black Soot Distress Ink. (Or use another color of your choice.)
• Step 3 – Die cut Circle Background from either cardstock or acetate to create a stencil. Spray the stencil generously with water and lay on top of the Black Soot-inked rectangle from Step 2. Place a paper towel on top and rub gently. Leave the towel in place 3 minutes, then remove. The wet stencil pulls ink up from the surface, leaving the light pattern. Now you have a cool background! See below for results. When thoroughly dry, adhere to the card front using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

• Step 4 –  Use embossing ink to stamp “Congrats” from the General Sentiments Clear Stamp set toward the bottom right corner of the card. Sprinkle with silver metallic embossing powder. Heat set. 
• Step 5 – Die cut Pair of Leaves 2 from White Soft Finish Cardstock and adhere to card. Overlap the stems as shown and use small dabs of clear-drying Kids Choice Glue. (Tip: Use a toothpick or corsage pin to the glue. Only a small amount is needed and it dries fast.)
• Step 6 – Create a double-loop bow. Adhere where stems overlap.

 

Thank you for stopping by. This card can be used for any occasion by changing the stencil, sentiment, colors. You can also substitute flowers for the leaves or use twine instead of ribbon. The possibilities are endless.
