Hello Friends, Piyanki here with some Black Eyed Susans from Susan’s Garden. Black Eyed Susans are from the sunflower family and at a glance they look similar. But the proportions are not the same; the layering and shaping of the petals are different, too. This was a fun card to make and I had a particularly good time creating the background. Here’s how I created and assembled this card:
Step 1 –
- The final card measures 5.5″ x 5.5″ and has 3 layers. The first layer, the top-fold card base, is Kraft brown cardstock.
- The second layer is a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock cut to 5.3″x 5.3″ and adhered to the card base.
- The third layer, the background piece that will be visible behind the bouquet, is corrugated cardstock cut to 5″ x 5″ and adhered atop the white square.
Step 2 –
- Using the Black Eyed Susan die set, die cut enough pieces from White Soft Finish Cardstock to create three flowers.
- Color the petals using Distress Inks, your favorite markers, or PanPastels. Shade with realistic colors, following Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s tutorial or using an internet image search for photographs to use as a reference.
- Die cut the center fills from black cardstock.
- Shape and assemble the flowers. Note: Each flower has 2 layers of petals.)
Step 3 –
- Cut several ferns using the Maidenhair Fern & Ostrich Fern dies from green cardstock. (Shown: Handmade cardstock with a bit of texture.)
- Shade the ferns with Crushed Olive Distress Ink, markers, or PanPastels. Shape the ferns.
Step 4 –
- Arrange and adhere the cluster of flowers as shown or as you prefer.
Step 5 –
- Die cut the words Thank You three or four times from White Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to cutting. Stack the words to create dimension. Adhere at the bottom of the card front.

What a beauty. The background you chose just makes your flowers and leaves pop. Beautiful card.
DELIGHTFUL card!
LOVE each and every laye, from the base to the frills in the flowers!
This is so nice. The corrugated cs really adds a lot. Thanks.
