Autumn Pairings

September 19, 2020

Happy autumn, artlets! Last month I created a series of projects using “Summer” from the 4 Seasons die set: Summer in Our Hearts.  This month, I will share some projects using “Autumn” from the same 4 Seasons die set and combine it with other dies from the A Way With Words Collection.

Let’s have a closer look….

The first card (above) combines Autumn and “Bliss”.  Of course this card could use any of the season dies and you could just change the colour of the Alcohol Inks to get the effect you want.  This card front was made by spreading Alcohol Blending Solution on Yupo paper and droppering in Sunset Orange, Lettuce, Terra Cotta and Butterscotch Alcohol inks.  You never know what you’re going to get!  I die cut Autumn and Bliss from extra inked pieces and backed both words with light green and pale orange cardstocks to lift them off the page a bit.  There is a little peak of a flourish along the side, cut from the Flourished Heart in Calligraphic Elements 2.  This card measures 5 x 7”.

My next card is a photo card using a picture I took on a hike in 2016 on a perfect day in the Canadian Rockies.  The larches were brilliant yellowy orange.  I didn’t want to cover up any of the photo, so it became a larger card than expected at 6 x 9.5”.  I just chose coordinating colours of card stock to die cut the words and to mount the photo.  So simple!  This is going up on our mantle till the next amazing photo.  “Amazing” is from the Amazing Beautiful die set.  Of course, I could have used Beautiful instead of Amazing and it would have worked perfectly.  It’s another super useful set from the A Way With Words Collection.

For this Autumn Fun card, I let the patterned paper do the heavy lifting for me.  This paper is really busy!  I used the Flourished Oval Frame in the center of the card and added Autumn and Fun (from the Fun Play die set).  I blended some Distress inks on the words which always creates a nice effect. To help the words stand out from that busy background, I cut the Flourished Oval Frame from vellum and used the inside on this card front.  It worked perfectly! This card measures 5 x 7”.

My final combination today is Autumn + Garden (from My Garden Flowers die set) for a planner page. I see an all-season photo planner in my future! I’ve again used the Flourished Oval Frame and overlaid it with the words and some paper flowers I purchased.  I went for a muted look here, but you could do the same layout with bright autumn colours.

So here are some other combinations you might not have thought of. Some of them you’ve seen already in the previous season blog post:

Autumn Memories
Unforgettable Autumn

Please tag me with your combinations when you make them!  I’d love to see your artwork!

Planning for a Baby!

January 5, 2019

Hi there!  It’s Suzanne here today. No, I’m not the one planning for a baby, but I know people who are!  And the great thing about these planner pages is they can become part of an ongoing baby journal!

The new Elizabeth Craft Designs Planners are a great way to expand the use of dies you already have in your stash and allow you to create something completely new.

I love the blues and browns of the Moda Scrap My Little Boy papers and used it for a base for creating this baby shower planner spread. Here is how you can make your planner spread, too!

Summer Fun Slider Card with Glittered Beach Ball

July 8, 2017

Hello!  Diana here with a Summer Fun card I made after the Scrapbook Expo in Chantilly.  I had such a great time helping out at the ECD booth with the Silk Microfine Glitter demonstrations that I got some and continued to play with it once I got home.  At the Expo, I also picked up the Slider and Spinner die set. Here’s my card combining the two.  It’s been a while since I made a slider card and what I love about this die set is that there are four different shape slots you can make for the interactive feature instead of just the usual straight line.  The A Way With Words Dies ‘Summer’ and ‘Fun’ dies are the perfect topping for this card.

Sweet Fun

April 6, 2017

Hi everyone,

It’s my turn to post a tutorial for the Die Cut Design Team. I love making cards that are a little different from the normal square or rectangular cards. Today I have used the Fishtail Borders die set from Els van de Burgt Studio to add a fishtail edge to my card. To decorate my card I used dies from Joset Designs and A Way With Words.

Smiles Required – Mixed Media Card

by Judi Kauffman

When it comes to mixed media, everything is fair game. Among the tools and supplies I pulled together for today’s card are the ModaScrap Poppies die set, A Way With Words ‘Play’ die, A Way With Stencils ‘Dotty’, Prills in two of my favorite colors, half of a mailing label that originally said ‘SIGNATURE REQUIRED’, a library card from the days before computers, a small metal folder tab, an office supply store label maker, strips of Kraft brown cardstock that were next to the paper trimmer, and a scrap of sequin waste encrusted with paint.

The project began with the strips of cardstock and the library card. Though you may not have precisely the same bits and pieces, as long as you keep in mind the letter ‘H’ or a ladder you’ll be able to make your own version!

I’m going to include what I call ‘Design Strategies’ along with the instructions. This is the ‘why’ part of design; the instructions are the ‘how’ part. Beginners: I hope this is especially useful to you!

(Experienced cardmakers – scroll through the photos and head straight to the supply list.)

January 16, 2017

Have you seen the new stamps and matching die sets available soon from Elizabeth Craft Designs? Good Morning, this is Selma Stevenson. Today I have designed a card using the Jungle Cuties stamp set, and as you can tell in the picture the stamped and colored animals, bird, and branch have been die cut for easy placement on the card.  I have also used one of the new A Way With Words die sets for the word ‘Play’.  Here is how I created this card.
