It’s Frances here and it’s my turn to post a Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial today. This time round I am playing with a few of Karen Burniston’s new dies to create a Halloween card. My card features Whiskers the Cat sitting on the witch’s broomstick. I think the poor witch has fallen off it by the looks of the witch’s hat and shoes lying on the ground…. oh dear!Continue Reading
Hi all! It’s Shelly Hickox with you today to share a spooky interactive Halloween card using dies from Karen Burniston’s newest release. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I couldn’t wait to combine the dies from this fantastic new collection into a fun card that features lots of motion.
Hello, everyone! It’s Els here and I’m having such a great week that I wanted to share it with you – so not a project and instructions today, but with news from here in Colorado…
Our daughter Joset and granddaughter Annika are visiting. It’s been so much fun watching the two together, and Joep and I are very hands-on – tons of cuddling and stories. Annika even eats black beans, inspiring me to branch out and try new foods so she doesn’t get ahead of me when it comes to adventurous eating habits!
Joset’s here for work, too. We’re taping YouTube videos. Susan Tierney-Cockburn arrived on Sunday to tape tutorials for her new release as well. We’ve got a full house, just the way we like it! Both Joset and Susan will also be guest hosting Technique Friday with Els. We may not sleep at all!
Meanwhile, we hope you’ve already taken a gander at the new releases from Susan and from Karen Burniston. We know you’ll find a zillion must-haves. We’re including some projects here to spark your muse. And be sure to head over to their Facebook pages and blogs so you don’t miss out on a single thing! Karen is posting a YouTube video tutorial every day for a week to showcase her collection.
And I’m excited to announce that the wonderful new collection of dies and stamps from Joset Designs is going to be revealed on August 11th (yes, this is a proud mother speaking) along with Suzanne Cannon’s latest ‘A Way With Words’ dies.
Our design team and guest designers are busily creating projects and writing instructions. Stay tuned! This is going to be a very active and fun-filled time on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog and the YouTube Channel as well!
Speaking of active and fun-filled, Annika is ready to go outside and play, and so am I!
Hi! It’s Fran Sabad from the Karen Burniston Design Team ready to share a fun Rectangle Accordion Album .
My favorite part about Halloween is that there are no “rules” to decorating. Sequins, cobwebs, princesses and ghouls – all go together to create some spooky fun! This Pop It Ups Rectangle Accordion card is a perfect example of “everything goes!” I started with three accordion panels in gray card stock and the Katie Star Frame Edges and Katie Flourish Frame Edges in black. I stamped the Hedgehog Daisy Halloween stamp set on gray and colored it with Copic markers.(W7, W5. W3,W1 and W00) Then I added some washi tape, sequins, and black glitter stars along with a glitter banner and big jewel.
Here it is open. Each panel has it’s own character. I used the Katie Flourish Frame Edges on the middle page and the Katie Stars on the two outer pages and on the front of the album.
The moon is lightly colored with a white chalk marker.
The vampire has white chalk marker on the lantern, cummerbund, and bow tie and the witch has the same marker on her scarf.
The Rectangle Accordion makes scenes come together in such a fun way! For matting each image, I also mixed in the matting dies from the Rectangle Pull card. Both sets of decorator rectangle dies work together and don’t duplicate! Perfect!
For a video tutorial on assembling the Accordion albums, watch Karen’s video.
Hi, everyone! It’s Jackeline here from the Elizabeth Craft Design Team. It’s that time of the year again. Halloween is just around the corner, so let’s get in the spirit. This spooky season inspired me to create a wearable project using some of my favorite dies and Elizabeth Craft Designs supplies
Let’s get started:
1. Die cut 6 Ornament overlays from Basic Black and Amethyst Shimmer Sheetz using the ornament set 5 using the Metal Adaptor Plate. I recommend to use the overlay with the holly leaves because this one resembles a spider web.
2. Die cut 8 lady bug silhouettes from black velvet and 8 from purple cardstock.
3. Die cut 4 lady bug overlays from purple cardstock. These are going to be used as the spider’s eyes.
Tip: Apply Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of the cardstock before die cutting.
4. Using a cutting board cut some black velvet strip of 1/16″ approx. These are going to be use as the spider’s legs.
5. Build the base flower. Using double side adhesive tape connect the ornaments overlapping them.
6. Attach the accessory (diamond with black tulle) on top of the Shimmer Sheetz flower, using silicone glue, and let it dry.
7. Attach the hair pin on the back of the Shimmer Sheetz flower, using silicone glue, and let it dry.
8. Cut a piece of Black Veil to be 8″ x 11″ approx.
9. With your fingers, gather the top of the veiling . Once you are happy with your gathering attach it to the back of the Shimmer Sheetz flower using some silicone glue.
10. To finalize the hair piece, let’s build some spiders!
11. Using the black velvet strips, create the spider legs.
12. Remove the backing of the black lady bug silhouettes and place the strips creating the spider legs. Place this on top of the veil, and with the assistance of the purple lady bug silhouettes secure the spiders onto the veil.
13. Using the little dots from the lady bug overlays, create the eyes of the spiders.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will create your own Black Spider Veil Witch Flowers in time for Halloween!
It’s Karen Aicken today with a card I made for a challenge, where we were to make cards with treats. Since Karen Burniston’s Spiral Circle Pull Card is one of my favourite dies, I figured out a way to include three mini chocolate bars inside a SCPC for Halloween! Below is the card in the closed position:
and here it is opened up:
Here is how I made it:
1. Cut green card stock to 7-1/2 x 5-1/2″. Cut patterned paper to 7-1/4 x 5-1/4″ and adhere securely to green card stock. Score both layers at 3-5/8 and 4″.
Put SCPC on the left 3-5/8″ score line but keep the end of the cutting pad away from the notches. You want to die cut everything but the notches:
Put SCPC on right, 4″ score line and cut the notches only:
2. Using the Clock & Gears die, cut large circle from green card stock and adhere inside SCPC covering the patterned paper on the left circle.
Cut clock and 3 small gears from black card stock
Cut patterned paper 1-1/2 x 3″ and cover Mini Chocolate Bars adhering the paper at the back with 6mm (1/4″) ECD Clear Double Sided Tape. Tip: Use patterned paper not card stock.
3. Cut a 7 x 2-1/2″ piece of orange card stock, and die cut the clock hands from one end. Adhere the remaining orange card stock to 64 mm (2-1/2″) ECD Clear Double Sided Tape.
Die cut the letters to spell T I M E and T R E A T S, and cut the number 4 from the orange adhesive backed card stock. Colour the 4 with a black marker. Alternatively, cut the 4 from ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive-backed black cardstock.
Die cut Spiral Circle Pull Card accessory circle from off-white card stock. Lightly stencil numbers from black clock with light grey ink and ink edges. Adhere letters and number, and adhere to inside over green circle.
4. Stack black clock face, 1 small gear, large clock hand, small clock hand and secure with purple mini-brad. Adjust time to your liking. Adhere to front of SCPC on outer edges only using liquid glue.
Cut green circle using the SCPC accessory circle die. Adhere green circle on the right side as shown so it doesn’t show when the card is closed. (touching 4″ score line)
Adhere wrapped candy along the 4″ score line.
Adhere the remaining 2 gears to the SCPC notches as shown, using liquid glue.
Close up and your card is ready for giving. Note: The gear-decorated tabs (notches) are more for decoration than to securely hold the card closed.
I used a clear bag as an envelope, as it will be hand delivered. Alternatively, you could create a Belly Band using a strip of card stock or patterned paper 9-1/4 x 1″ wrapping it around your closed card and securing at the back with a piece of ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.
I had so much fun making this Treat Pull Card – I hope you will give it a try as well!
Hi, it’s Karen Burniston with the October Pop it Ups Designer Challenge. Each month I challenge my Designer Challenge team to use Pop it Ups dies for a specific theme. This month the theme is Characters in Costume and the goal is to transform the Characters in some way – perhaps it’s by dressing them in a costume, or perhaps it’s a complete repurposing of the die cut shapes. I think you’ll agree that the team was very creative this month and have provided 20 inspirational ideas.
For my card and video I decided on a Christmas theme and thought William the Goat would make an excellent elf. I used the Ring Accordion and a technique for adding the expanding trees from the Christmas Trees Pop Stand die into the pages.
Here is the video tutorial for this project.
When the Ring Accordion is folded up it becomes a circle with a diameter just under 5″, which means it fits nicely in an A7 (5×7) envelope for mailing.
Any of the Characters can be “elfified” by using the same techniques as shown in the video with William. The Agatha Flourish provides excellent elf shoes. I also added a scrap of leftover glitter line to William’s hat.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Expanding Trees Ring Accordion with William the Elf.
Fineline Bottle 20 gauge filled with Lineco pH-neutral adhesive
Green ink, Copic Marker #R89
My Mind’s Eye “Sleigh Bells Ring” 6×6 Paper
Core’dinations Whitewash cardstock
Texture Paste, Glossy Accents – Ranger
Green, Red, White cardstock
Jingle Bell brad – The Paper Studio
Let’s see what the Designer Challenge Team came up with for this month’s Characters in Costume challenge.
Kelly Booth made a Tent Card from the Oval Accordion, following the great instructions by Frances Byrne, and decorating with the Oval Dots Frame Edges. She added the Outdoor Edges grass and the All Seasons Tree and then transformed Poppy the Owl into a ghost. What a cute Owl-o-ween card!
Frances Byrne created a whole new Character by combining pieces from Chilly the Penguin and Rocky the Crab. Meet her cute jellyfish on this fabulous Rectangle Pull Card.
Summer Hills-Painter transformed Honey the Bear into Santa for this sweet Ring Accordion. I love her color scheme of blues and whites and then the pop of Ho Ho Ho Honey! She used the Props 5 set for the Santa parts.
Raquel Mason made a clever transformation by adding a label from the Lucy Label set to create turkey feathers. Dutch the Fox becomes Dutch the Turkey! She used Poppy the Owl’s foot for a waddle.
Donna Wright made this fun frosty Adirondack Chair card with Chilly the Penguin transformed into a snowman. Then she went to work using a lot of the decorator pieces from Pop it Ups sets to create her scene. This is a lovely feature of Pop it Ups dies – that the decorator pieces are included, and very interchangeable.
Fran Sabad used the new Gift Card Accordion and companion Flourish Gift Frame for a fun 3-page accordion featuring Poppy the Owl as a graduate. She chose colors from their local high school and says her next job is finding a gift card to match the color scheme! (The gift card will slide easily into the slots on her center page).
Sandy Diller made this fabulous Etch A Sketch tent card and filled it with Cocoa, William and Chilly dressed like famous toys. She shows photos of each costume and how she made them with Props and decorator dies, so definitely click her name to go check it out.
Caz Counsell made this fun Superbunny card using Lucky the Rabbit and the Gift Card Accordion. She used it for a card/gift for her son’s friend and I’m sure it was a hit!
Frances Byrne made a second card for the challenge featuring Poppy the Owl wearing a pumpkin costume. She used the Tags Pivot Card and the grass from the Outdoor Edges turned sideways as borders. (Brilliant!)
Karen Aicken transformed Hoppy the Frog into a vampire for this fun Halloween Gift Card Accordion. I love the orange flies and how she colored everything with Pan Pastels.
Caz Counsell was inspired by one of her favorite rubber stamps to convert Whiskers the Cat into a flying bumblebee. She used the wings and antennae from the Butterfly Pivot Card and drew on the jumper with colored pens. She also used the Rectangle Pull Card very cleverly for a shaped top-fold card.
Shelly Hickox was very transformative with Whiskers the Cat – converting her into a witch doll perfect for Halloween decor. Shelly got clever with Props 2 and a decorative oval die to make the hat.
Sandy Diller was inspired by a friend to create Javelinas from Virgil the Pig. I just love the southwestern scene she created with the Western and Outdoor Edges, plus the branches of the All Seasons Tree. She also used the new Cocoa Western clear stamps.
Kelly Booth made this adorable tent card featuring Poppy the Owl all dressed for a luau. She used the Beach Edges to set the scene and framed the card with the new Flourish Gift Frame.
Karen Aicken made three cards for this month’s challenge including this fabulous Lucy Label pop-up card featuring Dutch the Fox as a chef. I love how she created the chef’s hat using the pail and cloud die. So clever!
Fran Sabad made a whole Halloween hay ride with four fun costumed Characters. She used the Lots of Pops die to animate her cart, and various Props dies to costume the Characters. Amazing!
Helen Cryer cracked me up with this fun Wonder Chick card. She dressed Cheepers the Chicken as the famous superhero, using clever touches like glitter dot earrings and cloud hair. Then she animated her wonder chick on the Lorna Label. Love it!
Raquel Mason made this adorable pop-up sleigh card featuring Jolly the Mouse dressed as Santa. She used the Merry & Bright Clear Stamps for the “Santa Says Shop!” greeting and I love those red pearls in the centers of the snowflakes.
Summer Hills-Painter felt Lucky in love and made this adorable Lucky the Rabbit turned Cupid card. She used the Spiral Circle Pull Card with the spiral cut from clear to animate all the little arrows (from the Rectangle Pull Card). I’d say this is a bullseye!
Kelly Booth had fun dressing Cheepers the Chicken as a cowgirl. She used the new Props 6 and put Cheepers on an action wobbler so she jiggles and dances when the card is open. The Lorna Label provides the pop-up structure.
And finally, something really important;
Karen Aicken found great meaning and purpose with this month’s challenge as a chance to transform Cocoa the Horse into a Purple Zebra, the symbol for Pulmonary Hypertension. Her granddaughter, Olivia, is living with advanced Pulmonary Hypertension and Karen explains a lot about the condition, the warning signs, and links to PH associations in four different countries. If you click to Karen’s post you’ll have the opportunity to win the four dies she used on this special card for Olivia. Elizabeth Craft Designs is providing the prize to raise more awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension.
There are seventeen Character dies and the team managed to use thirteen in their creations this month. That’s a lot of Character Costume inspiration! Ready to give some of these transformations a try? For THIS WEEK ONLY Elizabeth Craft Designs has discounted all Character and Props dies. Join me and the team next month on November 18, 2015 for the next Pop it Ups Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. Next month the team is going to be inspired by any of my Pop it Ups technique videos to make new creations based on the videos. It should be a fun challenge with the added bonus of video instructions already available for the techniques.
Hi crafters, It’s Caz here and this Saturday I would like to share with you a fun Halloween card that I made. I love Halloween and I would love to be over in the USA for Halloween as it’s not as widely celebrated in the UK and finding decorated houses over here is like finding witches’ teeth!
I am not sure why but when I decided to do a Halloween card I wanted to make one of the Karen Burniston Characters into a skeleton. I chose Buster the Dog to be the skeleton and made up a silly poem to put on the front of the card.
Swallowed a Wellington!?
You know dogs and how they like to chew shoes? Well it seems Buster was not content with swallowing shoes, he went for a Wellington Boot! Or Wellies for short over here 🙂 I needed something to rhyme with Skeleton and there aren’t many!
I generated the poem with a computer and for added interest changed the colours of the writing and use a pair of scissors to distress the edges. The BOO was made using the Alphabet Caps die, with Double-Sided Adhesive on the cardstock before die cutting, and then covered with Leaf Green Silk Microfine Glitter. I made the border decoration with the Ribbon & Jewels die and some Black peel off glitter dots. I thought they looks a bit like eyes!
Now for the inside of the card…..
For the inside I found some patterned papers in my stash and cut the Lots of Pops die into the fold, sliding the die to the right to leave room for my gravestone on the left. The gravestone was made using a Katie Label die and I animated this onto an angled pop out platform made using the Spinner die from the Rectangle Pull card. The paper I used had the perfect Halloween tree and I copied that using the All Seasons Tree. I added some googlie eyes for a spooky addition. Even the grass from the Outdoor Edges got eyes too!
I die cut the shadow of Buster with Black card and lopped off his ears (sorry Buster!) Then I used a white pencil to draw on the bones of Ol’ Buster the Skeleton. Buster is attached to the front of the Lots of Pops platform, along with more black grass. The All Seasons Tree is attached to one of the skinny side platforms. The other side platform was not needed for my card so I left it in the collapsed position. I love that feature of the Lots of Pops die – that many of the platforms are independent so you can choose to pop out just certain platforms for your scene.
Lots of inking, stamping and accent papers and my card was complete.
I do hope that you have enjoyed my card this Saturday and are looking forward to Halloween however you spend it. I’ll be taking my boys out, visiting only houses that decorate and leaving those that do not want to partake alone.
I love Halloween! I’ve always believed that a holiday devoted to cards, candy and costumes is as good as it gets.
This trio of A2 size cards is super easy to make. I wanted a lot of sparkle so I picked shimmering acrylic paints and metallic mesh for the background layers. And to create quick and seamless color blends I got out the Chameleon Pens.
A side note: I designed the Halloween in Frame Peel-Offs and hope you have fun coloring them!
Instructions:
Place Black Halloween in Frame Peel-offs onto white cardstock and color with Chameleon Pens to create soft blends. Fussy cut around the edges taking care not to cut off the spider’s feet or witch’s hat and broom where they extend past the frame. (Optional: Color the candy corn and other extras on the Peel-offs sheet and use them to embellish the inside of the card.)
Paint a piece of textured paper with shimmering paints in shades of yellow gold, olive green, lime green and dark pumpkin. Allow paint to dry. Cut a 3” x 4” rectangle for each card. As shown: Base paper is a 12” x 12” sheet of dark blue handmade mulberry paper, enough for 12 cards.
Layer painted rectangles onto black cardstock: Cut around all four sides, leaving a ¼” border.
Cover the card fronts with mesh: Use Gold or Silver Foil tape to secure a piece of mesh to each card front, wrapping it to the back and to the inside of the card front. Trim away the extra ½”. (Foil tape holds the mesh in place and acts as a decorative element.)
Adhere a painted rectangle with black border to each card front. Center the Halloween in Frame Peel-off, using foam tape for added dimension.
Line the right side of the interior of the card with white cardstock cut to 4” x 5.25” (a place for writing or stamping a greeting and your name).
Optional embellishment: Use wire cutter to trim away the shank from a Gem Spider Ring. Position the spider at an angle toward the bottom right of the card front as shown on the Jack O’ Lantern card. Use foam tape for added dimension.
Hi, it’s Angela and I am so excited to share this project with you. My friend Nicole created a festive Halloween project featuring pull out tags. Let me share with how she created the project using Elizabeth Craft Designs dies, Peel-off stickers and Silk Microfine Glitter.
*A piece of cardstock 17 1/4 x 11 1/2 was scored to create four panels, pockets & a flap.
*Inside view of the book with the tags in the pockets.
*Four pieces of pattern paper were cut to decorate the back of the book.
*Letter & numbers were die cut from black cardstock to create the front title of the book “October 31st” and it was glued on the front cover.
*A pumpkin peel-off was placed on double sided adhesive, glittered with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polished, then colored with Copic markers and then cut out.
*A magnet was placed between the pumpkin and black cardstock circle to create a magnetic closure for the book front.
*Panel # 1 has a pattern paper tag that has been scored twice and it creates a pull down tag which was decorated with a stamp image and metal skeleton.
*The tag has a journal spot and pictures placed.
*Panel # 2 and panel # 3 have tags folded once and google eyes and photos were used to decorate the tags.
*Inside the book was decorated with patterned paper behind the pockets and on panel #4, a patterned tag was placed on the pocket front.
*Four back cardstock tags were die cut from assorted tag dies.
*The cardstock tags for the pockets were decorated with photos of the kids in costumes and ECD double sided tape was applied to the tags and then ECD Silk Microfine Glitter was applied and polished in.
*On the other two tags, glitter was applied and ribbon was placed on all tags.
*The names of each child were die cut and glued to the tag back along with photos.
*The positive and negative images from the alphabet dies were used to create “Brody’s” name and a gold metallic marker was used to write “My boys 2013”.
Nicole did a wonderful job on this cute tag book! Creating one is easy and fun to decorate and embellish. Pull out your photos, dies & glitter and make a tag book keepsake for yourself!
