Pretty Purse Stand-Up Card

May 8, 2014

It’s Karen Aicken here with a ‘new for me’ card.  Stand Up, or Easel Cards have been around for a long time but I have never made one. The reason? I was pretty sure only my card-maker friends would know what to do with it and I refused to make a card that I needed to include directions with. That all changed when I saw the Stand Up Helper dies here at Elizabeth Craft Designs and I couldn’t wait to try one for myself.

Here is the card in the closed position.  I chose one of the beautiful purse Peel-Offs as the focal point, attaching it to water colour paper and painting it with Derwent Inktense pencils and a water brush.

It’s wonderful that Elizabeth Craft Designs now has embossing folders, and this one is my very favourite!

Card_ECD_StandUp_Purse_02

Instructions:

1.  Cut card base from purple textured card stock, 11″ x 4-1/4″. Score across the center to form a
5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ standard (A2) tall card.  Make another score line across the center of the card front at 2-3/4″ and set aside. This is the base for your Stand Up card.

2.  Cut a 2nd piece of purple textured card stock, 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″.

3.  Cut a white panel, 5″ x 3-3/4″ and emboss with the Swirly Curves embossing folder. Mat with a slightly larger panel of black card stock.

4.  Fussy cut the (now dry) water coloured purse and the bow, using a piece of foam tape to attach the bow to the front of the purse.  Add the purse to the embossed and matted panel as shown.

5.  Cut a strip of white card stock that will fit your sentiment and notch each end.

6.  Cut a strip of purple textured card stock, 4-1/4″ wide and deep enough to mat your notched sentiment. Add black Peel-Off border stickers to the top and bottom edges. Pop the notched sentiment strip up on the purple one with foam tape and adhere to the purse panel as shown.

7.  Now take your purple base card. On the front of the card you will see that there is a score line across the center. Add adhesive from this score line to the bottom front edge, including the sides.  Carefully line up the purse panel to this adhesive – you want the bottom and side edges to match up evenly.  Now we are ready for the inside!

8.  Line up the bottom of the flower Stand-Up die, 1/2″ in from the left edge and 1″ up from the bottom. Run it through your cutting machine with the required plates. Repeat on the right edge.

9.  Add a small flower Peel-Off to the center area of each flower, and lightly add colour with the same tools used to colour the purse.

Card_ECD_StandUp_Purse_04

10.  Cut a 1″ strip of white card stock, emboss with the Swirly Curves embossing folder. Mat with black card stock and adhere across the inside bottom as shown.

Card_ECD_StandUp_Purse_08

11.  Cut a white panel 3-3/4″ x 3-1/2″, and mat it with black. Stamp your sentiment with black ink.
(I added colour with pencils blended with Gamsol and a blending stump). See the flower above the sentiment? I used a Transfer Sheet to attach the negative Peel-Off flower image to a scrap piece of Shimmer Sheetz then fussy cut it. It makes such a lovely embellishment, with all the shimmer and shine from the Shimmer Sheetz. This is a great way to use up any scraps you might have, and get ‘double-duty’ from your Peel-Offs.

Card_ECD_StandUp_Purse_07

12.  Lightly fold back the flower Stand-Up Helpers along the line that scores when you cut them into the card, and tuck the bottom edge of the card front into them. There you have it – a Stand Up Card!

The best part? My Mother-in-Law was visiting when I finished this card. I gave it to her and asked “if you got this in the mail, would you know what to do with it?”. She looked at it, opened it right up, noticed the Stand-Up Helpers and put it together exactly as I’d hoped. No instructions required!

Tulips in spring

May 7, 2014

Good morning friends!

It’s me, Rita here today and I’m truly enjoying our spring here in sunny California. Honestly, I absolutely love spring! Nature comes alive again, trees are blooming, flowers are coming out and I get to see my garden of gorgeous violets, daffodils and tulips every year.  Since tulips are really my all time favorite flowers, I decided to create a tulip card.

1. Place tulip peel-offs on Neenah cardstock.

DSCF2864_2
2. Color each tulip using your favorite markers or pencils. I used Copic Markers. For my dark pink tulips I used RV63, RV66 and RV 69, for the yellow tulips Y04, Y06, Y08 and E15, and for the leaves YG11, YG61, YG63, YG67 and G99.

3. Fussy cut around each flower.

4. The Peel-Off stickers created an embossed look.

5. Die cut little butterflies and a set of bows from the Yellow and Pink Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz. Please remember to use the metal adaptor plate when die cutting.

DSCF2876_2

6. Cut out two small strips from the same shimmer sheetz and take a quick look at our curious little cat.

DSCF2877_2

7. Cut a 6″ x 12″ card base, score at 6″ and fold in half.

8. Place all the elements on your work station and test out how you like them together. Once you have a good layout, take a photo that will help you assemble the entire card.

9. Assemble your card by adhering some tulips directly to the card base and some using foam squares for a more dimensional effect.

Thank you so much for taking a look at my card today and I hope this spring weather is kind to you too!

Hugs, Rita

Box of Shimmer

May 6, 2014

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel

Hi! It’s Candy Spiegel back to share another project using Elizabeth Craft Designs products.

This time I decided to create an elegant recipe box with Shimmer Sheetz, embossing folders, alcohol ink, peel-offs and Copic markers.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel1

1. Select recipe box (this one was only $1, available at most dollar stores)

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel4

2. Emboss Metallic Shimmer Sheetz.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel8

3. Apply alcohol ink with applicator. More ink will completely cover color of Shimmer Sheetz. Apply less ink to see the original color of the Shimmer Sheetz below.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel9

4. Adhere Shimmer Sheetz to box, overlapping as desired.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel10

5. Apply Peel-offs to borders of Shimmer Sheetz.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel11

6. Adhere Peel-off to white cardstock with double-sided adhesive on top and add Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter.

7. Color with Copic markers. Cut out and attach to box with dimensional adhesive.

ECD_RecipeBox_Candy_Spiegel38. Add a coat of Glastique (or Glossy Accents or Diamond Glaze) to add additional dimension and shine to the grapes.

Flower Labels 2

May 5, 2014

Hello, It’s Raquel Mason here today. When I heard Elizabeth Craft Designs made Peel-offs in the shape of Karen Burniston’s Accordion Fancy Label, well I was excited. Then when I received my samples, I got even more excited. I just had to try them out! I wanted to make a simple card with a little something extra. I used the Accordion Fancy Label to die cut a frame on the front of the card so my beautiful Flower Labels 2 Peel-off could be seen from the front and on the inside.

ECD-Fancy-Label-Peel-Off
1. Create card base by cutting dark pink cardstock to 5.5″x 8.5″ scored at 4.25″.

2. Cut light pink piece of cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and emboss with Trendy Tiles Embossing Folder. Adhere to front of base card.

3. Using Accordion Fancy Label’s largest decorator die, die cut a window in the front of your card.

4. Create a frame from your base color cardstock using Accordion Fancy Label (card base die) and the largest Accordion Fancy Label decorator die (same die you used to cut the window in the front of your card). See picture below.

ECD-Fancy-Label-Peel-Off-cut-frame-1024x768
5. Adhere frame to card front matching up the shape to the opening.

6. Place double-sided adhesive onto white cardstock, remove the release sheet and place the Flower Labels 2 Peel-offs on top, cover with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess glitter and polish with your finger. Color images with markers.

ECD-Fancy-Label-Peel-Off-open
7. Cut out peel-off image and adhere to inside of card. To help line it up perfectly, use the window you cut on the front of the card as a guide.

8. Die cut Thinking of You from Black Velvet Adhesive Sheet and save the negative area. Use the negative area as a mask, place it on your card and sponge ink in the open areas. This will create a shadow, adding more dimension when you adhere Thinking of You over the top. See photo below.

ECD-Fancy-Label-Peel-Off-shadow
9. Cut out remaining peel-off images that you colored and adhere to front of card.

10. Add Pink/Silver Glitter Borders Peel-offs to the bottom of your card.

Jackie’s dolls accordion card

May 4, 2014

Hello everyone! It’s Joset here and today I would like to show you a card I created using one of our new Peel-offs, Jackie’s Dolls in Circle. You might have seen the Jackie’s Dolls in Oval Peel-offs that match perfect with the Accordion Oval Card. The Jackie’s Dolls in Circle match perfectly with the Accordion Circle Card and that’s why I chose to use this die to create my accordion card. Since I didn’t know which sticker on the sheet I liked the best, I decided to use them all and create a 4 panel accordion card. I hope you enjoy this tutorial and pictures!

IMG_3756

To create the card:

1. Put double-sided adhesive sheet onto white cardstock.

2. Remove the release sheet and place it upside down on your workspace (shiny side up).
Leave the cardstock with the exposed adhesive on the table.

3. Take your Peel-off Sticker and place it upside down on the release sheet (sticky side up).
On the picture below you can see the white cardstock with double-sided adhesive on the top and the release sheet with my Peel-Off Stickers below.

Unknown-3

4. Take your white cardstock and place it with the adhesive side facing down onto the release sheet with the Peel-off on it. The Peel-off will lift from the release sheet and stick to the adhesive on the cardstock.

5. Turn the cardstock so that the release sheet is now on top. Take off the release sheet and make sure not to touch the adhesive.

6. Cover the adhesive with Silk Microfine Glitter in Cool Diamond. Polish with your finger and use a brush to brush of the excess glitter. TIP: Pour your glitter into a coffee filter and then use your finger to cover the adhesive. Once ready you can easily pour your glitter back into the jar using your non-static coffee filter.

7. Color your glittered peel-offs with Copic Markers or any alcohol-based pens. Use a Copic Blender pen for shading or use solid colors if you prefer. If you are using a blender pen, add a little bit a ink on the edge of the Peel-Off Sticker. Use your blender pen to color in the rest of area you are coloring (see picture below). Make sure to clean your tip of your blender pen before starting another color.

Picture Joset
8. Carefully cut around each circle.

9. For your accordion card, die cut 2 accordion pages out of light purple cardstock and 2 pages out of turquoise cardstock (you can cut off the long side tab of the last page and the smaller tab on the inside). Die cut 4 accordion frames out of patterned paper. To create a frame, die cut a page and cut out the circle on the inside. Trim each side of the frame a few inches.

Unknown

10. Adhere the 4 pages together using strong adhesive on the long side tabs. Adhere  the frames. Use the circles to decorate the back of the card.

11. Using 2 of the decorator dies from the Accordion Circle Card set, die cut a smaller circle out of light purple cardstock and a scalloped circle out of white cardstock.

12. Die cut Happy Birthday out of white cardstock with double-sided adhesive and glitter with Amethyst Silk Microfine Glitter.

13. Adhere light purple circle, scalloped circle and Happy Birthday to page 3. Adhere colored
peel-offs to pages 1, 2 and 4.

14. After you’re done decorating, fold pages accordion style.  Attach the 4 circles on the inside of each page together using strong adhesive on the small side tabs.

I hope you feel inspired to make this card yourself!
