Triple Pivot Card

June 19, 2014

Hi – it’s Karen Aicken here, and I have a Triple Pivot card to share today. This is the technique Karen Burniston shared on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog for the May Designer Challenge.
Click HERE to watch the video. I love that Karen showed us how to get even more mileage out of our dies. I have SO many ideas for the House Pivot die set. It’s useful for much more than just ‘Welcome Home’, or ‘Congratulations on Your New Home’. Our son is the proud owner of a new puppy and I wanted to make them a card to celebrate the occasion. It was the perfect opportunity to try a Triple Pivot card!

1.  Cut white card stock to 11 x 4-1/4″ and score down the center for a 5-1/2 x 4-1/4″ (A2) side fold card. Leave the card folded.

2.  Line up the center of the House portion Pivot with the fold, placing it wherever you want to along the fold. I left more space at the bottom. Make sure the fence and half the house are on your folded card, and the other half of the house is not going to cut anything. Now run this through your preferred die cutting machine.

3.  You will have a house in the center with a fence on either side. This was the first time I tried this technique, and I noticed that the very tip of the house and the very bottom didn’t cut all the way through, but with two quick scissor snips the house was free. Carefully fold the fence pivots and the house – it will help if you watch Karen Burniston’s video before you start. It would take me that long to describe how I do it!

4.  Next, open the card flat and add your background to the inside. You could stamp clouds and ground, or do as I did with a hand-made stencil, dye ink and a blending sponge. Make sure you add the background over the house portion as well. I didn’t do this at first, and had to go back in and do it further along.

5.  Cut two more fence sections, from white card stock. While the card is opened flat, attach the fences you just cut to the card base lining up the edges. They should fit perfectly! Refold the card to be sure everything lines up.

6.  As per the video, attach a strip of Washi tape down the center of the card. Note – I am not a fan of Washi tape. I didn’t think I even had any, but when I looked I saw that indeed I did have a roll and it had paw prints on it. Serendipity!

7.  Die cut the brick house from patterned paper, then run it back through your machine using your preferred embossing sandwich. This will emboss the bricks onto the house. Alternatively, you could stencil them on leaving the die in place after cutting the house. Trim a little off each side at an angle as shown. Ink all edges and bricks to make them ‘pop’.

8.  Die cut the roof gables from pink card stock and ink the edges. Adhere to the dog house.

9.  Die cut an oval from pink card stock and ink the edges.  I used the oval that comes with the Pop it Ups Katie Label Pivot set. Glue this to the dog house trimming off the bottom edge.

10.  Score the dog house down the center and add foam tape to the back, along both sides only.
Set aside.

11. Cut 3 sets of flowers from the same pink card stock, and layer them together with glue. Lightly curl the leaves and add marker to the top bloom. I added black centers by using the leftover bits from a black Peel-Off border.  Set aside.

12. Cut Congratulations from the same pink card stock and lightly ink the bottom edge with brown. Set aside.

13.  Cut two pieces of double sided patterned paper that matches your project. They should be sized at 4-1/4″ high and 2-3/4″ wide. As shown in the video, apply your adhesive only to the area that will be covered by the paper, and adhere your patterned paper.

14.  Stamp images on white card stock using the ink that will work for your coloring medium. Because I was using Copic Markers, I stamped mine with Momento Tuxedo Black. Color, fussy cut and set aside.

15.  Now you have all your pieces ready to adhere to your card! Start with the dog house, attaching it as shown. Add the other pieces as shown or as desired. I used varying heights of foam tape for added dimension, as well as a glue pen to attach some directly to the card.

16.  Stamp words on the top left.

17. Add a portion of a fancy lace Peel-Off across the top left corner and color with Tombow markers. Use a light hand, so they don’t bleed through to the front of the card.

Card_PiU_HousePivotTriple_ECD_04

I have used this House Pivot quite a bit since it was released, and I’m so happy to have a new look for it. Remember you can also cut it so you have two houses and a fence in the center, rather than the two fences with a house in the center. So many possibilities – I hope you will give the Triple Pivot technique a try!

Karen Burniston Pop it Ups Designer Challenge – Photo Accordion Cards

June 18, 2014

Hi, it’s Karen Burniston with the June Pop it Ups Designer Challenge. Each month I challenge my Designer Challenge team to use Pop it Ups dies for a specific theme. This month the challenge was to create an Accordion Album showcasing a photo or photos.

For my video I wanted to show how to make Accordions with clear inner pages. I am using the new Katie Label Accordion die in the video. This die will be available in stores next month, so be sure to ask your favorite retailer to order it. You can use the techniques in the video with any of the Accordion dies, so don’t feel limited to just the Katie.

Topics covered in the video:

  • Showing off the Designer Challenge Team’s collaborative 11-page Oval Accordion album
  • Snipping tips for the accordion dies that come with stitching dies (Oval Accordion, Katie Label Accordion and Ring Accordion)
  • How to achieve a raised embossed stitch using an embossing sandwich
  • How to make clear inner pages for Accordion albums
  • Using brads to connect clear tabs
  • Assembling accordions in a layered sandwich style that hides the long tabs and the clear frames
  • How to repair an accidental break
  • Envelope sizes to mail Accordion Albums

Here are some photos and additional details about the project made in the video:

Counting_by_5s_closed

I made sure to add a solid white decorator label to the back of Page 2 so that when the album is closed the clear title will be easy to read against the white. I added the same colorful brads to the left side of the page to balance the ones on the right.

Counting_by_5s_open

My twins, Karl and Emma, are 15 years old and have certainly come a long way since being born seven weeks early (Emma was 4 lb. 9 oz. Karl was 2 lb. 9 oz.) to their current size (Karl is taller than me, Emma is getting close!) I thought it would be fun to show photos from their birthdays at ages 5, 10 and 15. Notice that Karl was still shorter than Emma on their 10th birthday. Clearly that changed in 5 years!

Counting_by_5s_closeup

Because I didn’t have a vertical shot of them at Age 5 I had to crop a horizontal one. I covered the seam with Glitter Borders. For the age numbers, I printed them on transparency and then outlined them with a silver paint pen on the back of the transparency before cutting them out. The brightly colored mini-brads are both functional and decorative. Some of them go through the small tabs to join pages together. I thought the visible brad prongs from behind the album added a festive touch to the album, almost like a colored staple, so I didn’t trim them. Instead, I just made sure I chose brads that had painted prongs.

Time to see what the incredibly talented Designer Challenge Team, plus three Guest Designers, created for the challenge. 11DC Team Album

This compilation photo accordion album is featured in the video. I asked each member of the team to create one Oval Accordion page. They were instructed to include a photo of themselves and their blog address on the page, but otherwise could design it with any colors, any theme, any embellishments. The results are fantastic! If you’re in any of my classes for the rest of the year you’ll be able to see it close up, as it will travel with me.

First let’s look at the albums the team had to choose from. Three styles are available now: Circle Accordion, Oval Accordion and Fancy Accordion. For each style there are optional companion frame edge dies that coordinate: Square w/Circle Frame Edges, Oval Dots Frame Edges, Oval Flourish Frame Edges and Fancy Frame Edges.

Accordions_now

Last week I posted a Sneak Peek Part 1 showing the first 10 of 16 new dies that will be available in stores July 15, 2014 as part of the Pop it Ups Summer Release. Included in that Sneak Peek were two new Accordion Albums and four new Frame Edge dies. The Designer Challenge Team received advance copies of the new dies and were allowed to use them for the Challenge if they liked.

SneakPeek1

All of the Accordion Album dies work the same and you can learn how to assemble them in this video. The beauty is that YOU decide how many pages to add to the album. They can be as short or as long as you like. For the projects below, I’ve sorted them by number of pages to illustrate the different looks. Click on each designer’s name to go to their blog posts to see more photos, instructions, supply lists, etc.

TWO-PAGE ACCORDIONS:

Helen Cryer made this two-page Circle Accordion project to give to her husband for his desk at work. She included recent pictures of the family on vacation. I think this is brilliant idea and will be making something similar for my husband’s desk!

2Helen_June_DC1

Karen Aicken‘s little grandson Ethan will be turning 2 soon so she made this very cute card using the Katie Label Accordion. She also mixed in the ECD balloon die. Notice the balloon string wrapped around the 2 – so cute!

2KarenA_June_DC2

THREE-PAGE ACCORDIONS:

Caz Counsell used the new Katie Label Accordion for a beautiful 3-page album featuring her niece’s wedding photos. She used the Butterfly Embossing Folder and Butterfly Accessory dies to create an elegant first page for the album.
3Caz_June_DC

Frances Byrne chose the new Ring Accordion for a Christmas album using photos of her granddaughter. The Ring Album comes with two sizes of ornament top die   as well. Frances did some clever combining of letter pieces to create the date.

3Frances_June_DC1

Jenn Dove is back this month as a Guest Designer and used the Circle Accordion for a three-page album featuring a brilliant cardinal and a great photo of the two of us in Yosemite last month. I love the color combo and the sweet sentiment.

3JennDove_June_DC

Jenn Mock is also back as a Guest Designer for this challenge and borrowed my Katie Label Accordion die to make this fabulous 3-page beach card with photos of her grandsons. The coral on page one is a section of the All Seasons Tree die – how clever!

3JennMock_June_DC

Kelly Booth also chose to use the new Katie Label Accordion for a 3-page SUPER card featuring her grandson dressed up as a superhero. She used the Katie Stars Frame Edges and mixed in decorator dies from the Katie Label Pivot Card. (Note: the decorator dies between the two Katie Label dies fit either die but do not duplicate, so they can be mixed for a ton of possibilities.)

3Kelly_June_DC2

Shelly Hickox made a beautiful and elegant Ring Album and turned it into a pocket watch with a clever addition of a printed winder and loop at the top of the first page. She used photos from her daughter’s wedding, turning them black and white for a timeless feel. You can see a Vine video of this card in action if you click over to her blog.

3Shelly_June_DC

Summer Hills-Painter shows how wonderfully Pop it Ups dies interchange with each other. Here she used the Katie Label Accordion but mixed in decorator dies from the Katie Label Pivot Card and Fancy Accordion. She also used the ECD Pumpkin die. Her two older boys look like they found the perfect pumpkins!

3Summer_June_DC1

FOUR-PAGE ACCORDIONS:

Raquel Mason created this wonderful mixed album using the Oval Accordion and the Katie Label Accordion. She also used the new Oval Clouds Frame Edges and a fun technique that Karen Aicken showed us for filling in the first page as a solid front to the album. Love these sweet beach photos of Raquel and her son.

3Raquel_June_DC1

Frances Byrne made a second project to focus on her grandson. What a fabulous mixed album! She mixed the Katie Label Accordion with the Oval Accordion, using perfect boy colors and elements to document William’s cubby construction.

4Frances_June_DC2

Helen Cryer made this fun 4-page Katie Label Accordion for her Dad. Starring in the photos are his parents, his bride, his kids and his grandkids – who wouldn’t love a gift like this?!

4Helen_June_DC2

Kelly Booth is the queen of color! This 4-page Fancy Accordion using the new Seasons Fancy Frame Edges is the perfect showcase for everyday photos of her grandkids.

4Kelly_June_DC1

Raquel Mason made a very unique 4-page Fancy Accordion by stacking two 2-pagers on top of each other! She used the new Poppy the Owl and Props 1 dies to highlight the silly photos she took with her son. What a great project!

4Raquel_June_DC2

Summer Hills-Painter recently had her third son and showcased her cute boys in this 4-page Fancy Accordion using the new Fancy Seasons Frame Edges. Awesome boy colors!

4Summer_June_DC2

Gretchen Schmidt also used the Fancy Accordion Album for a four-page album celebrating a four-legged friend. The crisp colors of this album are very striking. The scalloped frame from the Fancy Frame Edges die is a great choice.

4Gretchen_June_DC

SIX-PAGE ACCORDIONS:

Karen Aicken knocked my socks off with this fabulous blooming cactus Fancy Accordion project. She created a solid cover to the album. Click over to her blog to see it in the closed position. Great photos, great techniques!

5KarenA_June_DC1

Fran Sabad created a 6-page Oval Accordion using fun photos from a trip to Universal Studios. Notice the clever star garlands strung between the pages. She also embossed every page with the Trendy Tiles 1 Embossing Folder.

6Fran_June_DC

Donna Wright created a gorgeous 6-page Circle Accordion generations album, using the All Seasons Tree to set the scene. Such a lovely project and so powerful to see the women of Donna’s family going back several generations.

6Donna_June_DC

TWENTY-PAGE ACCORDION:

Sandy Diller drops the mic with this absolutely stunning, fantastic, awesome, amazing, impressive 20-page Fancy Accordion album celebrating her 50 years of marriage. You just really need to click over to her blog to read more about it and see the photo of it stretched out. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Thank you, Sandy for Guest Designing with us again.

20Sandy_June_DC

So there you have it. Amazing inspiration for using the Pop it Ups Accordion Album dies with photos to make amazing cards, gifts and memory albums. Which Accordion die is your favorite?

The Designer Challenge Team will be back the week of July 14th with Christmas (or other winter Holidays) in July projects. My compilation post and video will be posted July 16th. This is a great chance to let the team inspire you to get an early jump on your holiday cards. The new dies will be available in stores at that time.

Happy crafting!

Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-offs and Mixed Media

June 17, 2014

Hello everyone,

Jessie Hurley is back as our Guest Designer for today. Jessie created a beautiful Mixed Media project using the Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-offs. A fun technique she likes to share with us.
I hope you enjoy today’s tutorial!

Mixed Media projects are all the rage right now, so recently I taught an Art Journaling class at my local Scrapbook Store, showcasing some basic layering principals using color sprays and stencils…

IMG_0921

Although the idea of art journaling is to doodle in your own hand, I realize that drawing flowers from scratch can be a bit daunting, so I started thinking…”What product could easily help my customers create beautiful flowers, in a short period of time and not be too overwhelming”…and the first thing that came to mind was Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-offs!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cover pages with Gesso to seal and to protect the pages underneath from color seepage.

2. Spray 3 colors randomly onto the pages until you create an effect that you like.

3. Using the Gesso again, randomly stencil images over the page using your stencils.

IMG_0918

4. Once base complete, add Flower Peel-offs. This was my favorite part. I placed the Flower Peel-offs randomly on the pages. Using a fine-tipped paintbrush, blend 2 colors of Maya Gold paint into each petal to create dimension. Be careful to stay inside the lines…

5. Carefully remove stickers. You can use the Peel-offs again and repeat the process to create more flowers.

IMG_0919

The Peel-off sticker is now acting like a stencil! And the best part is that the metallic ink is also sticking to the actual sticker itself, so once you’ve colored enough flowers, you can incorporate the “outlines” into the page as well!

A few silver dots from the sticker sheet scattered over the page completes the look!

IMG_0923

This technique can be used on a smaller scale with your cards as well, just create a background using inks or sprays, add some stenciled imaged for the layered look, and then paint your favorite peel-off onto the front, add a sentiment sticker, and you’re set!

My passion is to use products for techniques other than what they were originally intended for, and Peel-off Stickers are my go-to product for that!  I hope you try incorporating your collection of Peel-off Stickers into your mixed media projects and see how much fun they can be in this “up and coming” art form!

Glitter Inlay Flowers

June 16, 2014

Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel here today. I admit it, I love glitter! If you love glitter too, then you’re going to want to try this glitter inlay flower card. What’s great about this technique is that your card isn’t bulky and will mail for one stamp. Let me show you how I made it.

ECD Glitter Inlay 2

ECD Glitter Inlay inside

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut pink card stock at 5.5 x 8.5, score at 4.25 for a standard A2 card base. Cut (2) pieces of black card stock at 4 x 5.25. Cut (2) pieces of white card stock at 3.75 x 5. The second black and white card stock are optional, I used them on the inside of the card.

2. Adhere one set of white card stock to black card stock and adhere to the inside of card.

3. Lay desired flower dies from Flower Set 1 onto the 2nd piece of white card stock cut in step 1. Run the card stock through your die cutting machine and repeat once more until you have three flower cuts in your card stock. Adhere this piece to the 2nd piece of black card stock cut in step 1, making sure not to get glue in the flower cut outs. Then adhere to card base. I used one of the white flowers on the inside of my card or you can save them for another project.

ECD Glitter Inlay pieces 1

4. Adhere Double Sided Adhesive to white card stock that is large enough to die cut 4 flowers and 4 centers.

ECD Glitter Inlay pieces 2

5. Remove the large area of the release sheet from each flower and cover with desired color of Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess and polish with your finger. Now remove the inner petals and cover this area with a different color of Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess and polish with your finger. Repeat this process until all flowers and centers are covered with glitter.

ECD Glitter Inlay pieces 3

6. Adhere the glittered flowers back into their respective shapes, making sure to line up the petals so they are laid back into the card. Layer a smaller flower on top of the larger flower and adhere the flower centers as shown in card.

7. Place Blue/Gold Glitter Border lines and Best Wishes Peel-Off on card as shown.

8. For the inside, place Blue/Gold Glitter Border lines on bottom of card. Adhere white flower to bottom right corner. Adhere glittered center to the middle of the flower.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and feel inspired to try this fun technique. Please feel free to leave a comment or ask any questions.

Happy Crafting,

Raquel

A Batch of Flower Cuties by Judi Kauffman

June 15, 2014

Our frequent guest designer Judi Kauffman is back. This time, she’s delving into her favorite way to make cards – “By the Batch” method. Learn how Judi created her 8 cards by this method. The cards are divided in 2 batches (4 per batch) and she provided photos and instructions. We hope you enjoy today’s post!

Thanks for inviting me to share some projects, Joset. I get the same question all the time: How do you have time to make so many cards? The best tip I can offer is to make several at the same time and keep them simple.

This batch of projects illustrates my point. I made eight cards, There is a mix of stamping and coloring, a tad of fussy cutting and a smidgen of layering. The pre-folded patterned cards were purchased by the box.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. To create the first batch of four cards: Place Black peel-offs on white cardstock, leaving space between them so they can be cut apart as separate rectangles. Refer to the photo above. Cluster the “extras” from the peel-off sheet off to the side. TIP: Keeping these little pieces on the cardstock with the other peel-offs makes it easy to color everything with the same markers. If you want to make five cards instead of four leave more space between the two Cuties with daisy skirts.

2. Using your favorite markers and pens, color Flower Cuties and all small extra pieces as shown or as you prefer.

3. Cut apart the rectangles, mat with a narrow black border, adhere to an A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) patterned card base.

4. Fussy-cut around the leaves, flowers, butterfly, ladybugs and other remaining elements. Using foam tape for dimension, arrange and adhere these pieces. Refer to the photos above. (*I used all but ONE of the extras…the curved butterfly didn’t make it to the final projects)

5. To create the second batch of four cards: Instead of Black, start with Flower Cuties in Gold or Silver. Arrange some of the extra pieces (flower pot, butterfly, ladybugs) so they can be cut as a single unit with the Cuties. Using colors that coordinate with the boxed cards, color inside the lines with alcohol markers. Then color around the Cuties with one or more markers, halo-style, before cutting them out. This takes a bit more time than cutting a rectangle, but less time than fussy-cutting along the outlines! Optional: Using fine nib black and white pens draw faces and add details with a bit of doodling (two cards with polka dot background).

6. Stamp sentiments. Cut apart the lines of text and discard any unwanted words. Examples: Instead of the text on the stamp that said “I don’t think I want any more adventures” it is shortened to “I want more adventures” and instead of “If you’re already walking on thin ice you may as well dance” it is shortened to “you may as well dance.”

7. Using foam tape for added dimension, assemble the card fronts as shown in the two photos above and the two photos below.

More options: Use this same “By the Batch” strategy with a wide variety of Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-offs including Jackie’s Dolls, Dragonfly Ladies, and more.

Happy Father’s Day

June 14, 2014

DSC_0045-1Hi Everyone, it’s Jackie and I decided to do a Father’s Day Card which is tomorrow. I knew I wanted to do this card using the Cars, Planes and Motor Peel-off because my Dad has a 1963 Falcon Convertible that he fully restored. For some reason he never drives this car so I thought this would be a great card to honour his car!

DSC_0061-1

Instructions:

1. For your card base, cut black square paper 7″x 10″ rectangle, score and fold in half.

2. Cut light brown paper 9 1/4″x 6 1/2″ rectangle, score in the middle. Place ‘Lots of Pops’ die on score line and run it through your die cutting machine. Adhere to the inside of your card base.

Front of card:

1. Cut red paper 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″. Cut blue word paper 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. And cut Yellow paper 4″x 6″. Layer and adhere to the front of your card using double-sided adhesive.

2. Cut out tag from patterned paper. Adhere using pop up dots. Add pre-cut map using a tape runner. Cut various tags out of patterned paper. Add a clip to hold the tickets together.

Inside of card:

1. Cut red paper 2 3/4″x 6 3/4″ for the top and cut red paper 3 1/2″ x 6 3/4″ for the bottom.
Cut ‘Dart’ patterned paper 2 1/2″x 6 1/2″ for the top and cut ‘Boarding Pass’ patterned paper
3 1/4″x 6 1/2″ for the bottom.

2. Cut various license plates out of patterned paper. Adhere using pop up dots as shown. Cut road out of black paper and add line markings using a white color pencil.

3. Die cut poles (included in the Lots of Pops die set) out of dark blue paper and adhere twine using tiny attachers. Attach license plates to the twine using mini library clips.DSC_0051-1

4. Using the black Car Peel-off apply to double-sided adhesive as shown by Els in this video.
Cover adhesive with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with your finger and brush off any excess glitter.

5. Color with Tombow Markers.

DSC_0038-1DSC_0036-1
DSC_0042-1

6. Die cut 1 large tag and 3 small tags out of patterned paper. Stamp sentiment ‘Happy Father’s Day’ using black pigment ink and emboss using clear embossing ink onto 3 small tags.  Note: To stamp each individual word on tag, place clear magic tape over word not being stamped, remove tape when stamping. Do this for all 3 words. Write a personal note on the large tag. Add blue ribbon to tags and adhere to card.

Gift Accordion Card

June 13, 2014

GiftAccordion2-wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances here today. For the past few months I have been having fun combining the Circle Accordion and the Fancy Label Accordion cards to create something a little different. These are so easy to do and I thought I would share with you how you can create this style of cards too.

Here’s how I created my card:

GiftAccordion10-wm

1. Cut two panels (one blue & one green) using the Circle Accordion Card die.

2. Cut one panel from yellow using the Fancy Label Accordion Card Die.

3. Cut two white circles using the largest circle from the Circle Accordion Card die set.

4. Cut one fancy label using the Fancy Label Accordion Card die set.

GiftAccordion9-wm

5. Cut 4 blue and 8 yellow frames edges using the Square with Circle Frame Edge die.

6. Cut 4 green frame edges using the Fancy Label Frame Edge die.

Tip: Apply Double Sided Adhesive Paper to the back of your card prior to die cutting the frame edges. This makes it easier when adhering to the accordion pages.

7. Adhere the yellow frame edges to the back and front of the blue Circle Accordion panel, the blue frame edges are adhered to the front of the green Circle Accordion panel  and the green frame edges to the front of the Yellow Fancy Label Panel.

GiftAccordion8-wm

8. Layout all three Accordion panels as per the photo above. Note that the tab on the Circle Accordion panel on the right is next to the the Fancy Label Accordion panel (normally this would be on the far right).

9. Remove the tab from the Fancy Label Accordion panel (note – if we were making a normal accordion card using only the Circle Accordion Card die or the Fancy Label Accordion Card die (not both together) we would remove the tab from the last panel)

GiftAccordion7-wm

10. Apply adhesive (tape or glue) to the tabs on the Circle Accordion panels and join the three panels together.

Decorating the Accordion Panels:

GiftAccordion6-wm11. Cut a piece of Double Sided Adhesive sheet approx 4.25  inches x 3 inches. Remove the release sheet from one side of the adhesive and set aside upside down on your desk (shiny side up). Adhere your Double Sided Adhesive sheet to a piece of white card the same size.

2. From the Gifts Peel-Off Sticker sheet remove the two tall gifts and two gift tags. Place these sticky side up onto the release sheet that we set aside earlier.

3. Take your white card and place it with the adhesive side facing down onto the release sheet with the Peel-Offs on it. The Peel-Offs will lift from the release sheet and stick to the adhesive on the card stock.

4. Turn your card so that the release sheet is now on top. Take off the release sheet and make sure not to touch the adhesive. You have now transferred your outline sticker.

5. Cover the adhesive with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and polish with your finger. You can see a video Els created using this technique here. Color your images as desired. Cut out the 2 gifts and the two tags.

7. Using the Happy Birthday (783) die and the Thinking of You (789) die, die cut a piece of Light Blue Velvet Adhesive Sheet.

8. Set aside the words “Happy”, “Birthday” and “You”.

9. From the word “Thinking” cut off the letter “T” and from the word “of” cut off the letter “o”. Flip the letter “o” so that the letter can join onto the letter “T” as per photo above.

10. Adhere the greeting “Happy Birthday To You” onto the white fancy label  die cut in step 4. Attach fancy label to the Fancy Label Accordion panels using foam tape.

11. Die cut the fishtail banner included in the Lots of Pops Pop-Up Card set from white card.

12. Using the Friends (720) die, die cut a piece of Light Green Velvet Adhesive Sheet. Trim off the letter “s” from the end of the word so you are left with the word Friend.

13. Adhere the word Friend to the fishtail banner created in step 11. Attach to the top left hand corner on the front of the accordion as per the photo above.

The Fast Track to a “Classic” Guy Card

June 12, 2014

Hi Everyone!

Debra Hensley here today to share a project with you. With Father’s Day right around the corner
I have been thinking of all the wonderful men in my life.  I know they would enjoy hearing from me more and what a better way than with a fun card any guy would love  featuring the “Classic” Car from the Cars, Planes, Motors Peel-Off and the Circle Accordion Card Die. This design is quick and easy and would work well to make  several at once to keep on hand for when you want to reach out to men in your life.

ECD June complete2a P1060647

Here’s how I made this card:

1. Cut a white piece of card stock to 4 3/4 x 9 1/2. Fold in half to form the square card base that fits the panel from the Accordion Circle Card die with the tab cut off.

2. Die cut 2 panels from the Accordion Circle Card die – one from red cardstock and one from pattern paper. The die can cut through both layers at once easily. Cut out the circles from both panels and trim the long side tab off the red panel.

3. Cut a 4 3/4 x 4 3/4  piece of blue pattern paper. Adhere to the front of your white card base. Ink the remaining pieces with brown ink and adhere to the front with the star pattern paper slightly off set to the bottom left of the inner circle cut out.

4. Print or stamp a sentiment and die cut it out with the middle circle in the Accordion Circle Card die set. Once cut, ink the edges with brown ink and free-hand pierce around the circle for a little added texture and interest.

5. Cover a 4 x 2 piece of white cardstock with double sided adhesive. Peel off the liner and place on your work surface. Peel off the sports car from the Cars, Planes, Motors Peel-Off sticker and place it on the release sheet, sticky side up. Carefully place the cardstock with the adhesive on to the release sheet. Rub well to make sure it is securely attached and remove the release sheet.
The car should now be transferred to the adhesive and ready to glitter. Apply Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over the adhesive. Brush off any excess and polish with your finger to set the glitter and bring up the shine.

6. Cut out the car and color with alcohol markers. I used Copic Markers, colors Y32, R46 and N2. For this card I left a lot of the image uncolored which made the assembly much quicker. Add two strips of Glitter Stars Border about 1/3 up from the bottom across the star pattern paper to simulate a road. Add the cut out car on Pop Dots. Add additional strips of Glitter Star Border to the top and bottom of the card.

7. To complete the card, add the sentiment on foam adhesive above and to the right of the car.
Clip 3 of the larger stars from the Glitter Star Border strips and place around the sentiment to tie it all together.

Here’s another look at the finished card.

Get Well Tea Card

June 11, 2014

Card Cover

Created by Mary Dimercurio Prasad for the Elizabeth Craft Designs DT.

For this card, I had the idea to create a colorful China style paper with some splatters to use for my teapot and teacups. I also wanted to include a real teabag with the card so I needed a pocket somewhere – it worked out best on the front of the card.

Making the Card

1. Cut card base from pink cardstock 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/4 inches. Fold in half. Cut black cardstock 5 inches by 3 5/8 inches. Cut patterned cardstock 4 3/4 by 3 3/8. Adhere black cardstock and patterned paper together as shown.

2. Cut pink cardstock 4 inches by 2 5/8 inches. Sew into a pocket as shown. Cut black cardstock 3 3/8 by 2 1/8. Adhere to pocket as shown. Adhere all of them to the front of the card.

3. Using the ink blending tool and Distress Inks, blend colors across a piece of white cardstock (about 5×7 inches); completely cover the paper in bright colors, blending each color into the others where they meet. Squirt some white paint onto a craft sheet or scrap paper; add some water and mix with a paintbrush. Tap brush against your finger to flick the paint onto the inked paper in random patterns. Do the same with the black and pink paints. Let it dry.

4. Cut black cardstock using the Lucy Label accessory die (larger). Cut a strip of pink cardstoack about 1/4 inch. Using the same die, center it and cut. Adhere to black label you just cut as shown.

5. From the inked/splattered paper, cut the teapot and cups (keep track of all pieces), and the small Lucy Label accessory label. Adhere the teapot outline to the front of the card as shown. Adhere “Get Well Soon” centered on the label and attach it to the black/pink label (from step 4) withe dimensional tape. From black cardstock cut the teapot and cups.

Card Inside Closeup

6. Cut out enough double-sided transparent adhesive for teapot and cups. Adhere to a new piece of black cardstock. Peel off the other top paper and stick the outlines of the black tea pot and cups to it, leaving enough space between to cut them all out. Carefully cut around each using fine pointed scissors. Stick the inked/splattered pieces into the frame you just created, like fitting them into a puzzle. Using a craft knife, cut a small slit in the teacup where the “tea” will go.

7. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 5 1/2 inches by 6 inches. Fold in half. Cut the Lots of Pops platform offset on the fold as shown (starting about 5/8 of an inch from the left side). Pop out the main platform and the one in front; leave the others un-popped. Adhere to the inside of your card.

8. Adhere the teapot and cups as shown. Cut a piece of gold Shimmer Sheetz to represent tea pouring from the pot into the cup. Adhere both ends as shown, sliding one end into the slot you cut in the cup.

9. Cut two strips 1/8 inch from black cardstock. Adhere the strips as shown. Use dimensional tape to adhere the “Get Well Soon” label where shown.

Daisies Accordion Card

June 10, 2014

ECD_Daisies_Candy_Spiegel6-1024x684
Hi! It’s Candy with another creation using Elizabeth Craft Designs products.

I love the Daisies in Oval Peel-offs from Elizabeth Craft Designs. Daisies are one of my favorite flowers and I love that you can get similar flowers in all sorts of colors. So, for this card I decided to color each of the daisies on the Peel-off sheet a different color.

ECD_Daisies_Candy_Spiegel1-222x300
1. Prepare stickers for coloring by applying them to cardstock and coating them with Silk Microfine Glitter like Els is demonstrating HERE.

2. Color with alcohol ink markers. I applied my darker colors first.

ECD_Daisies_Candy_Spiegel2-300x225
3. Then I use a lighter shade to blend the colors.

4. Cut out stickers.

5. Cut out four Accordion Oval Frames and assemble. You can watch Els demonstrating the accordion cards HERE.

6. Cut out Oval Flourish Frame Edges and adhere with Xyron.

7. Stamp sentiment.

8. Cut out daisy.

9. Assemble flower; use dimensional foam in center of flower.
