Double Tutorial by Riikka

April 16, 2017

Hello there! It’s Riikka here to share two projects with you and they both come with a tutorial! This card has a step by step version and then the layout that I made as my other project has a video! Double treat, should I say! Like always both of the crafts use the same idea, steps, and materials but the form is just different.

The idea behind both of the projects was to make a stencil of my own and create a pattern using it. Naturally there’s more than that to both projects. So let’s get started with the card first!

Step 1. Prime the card base with clear gesso. I used a piece of Soft Finish Cardstock as my base. Let the gesso layer air dry or use a heat tool to speed the process.

Step 2. Add color to your background. Add a couple of different colors of watercolor to your base and make a pool of color. Dip a glass onto the pool and then “stamp” the circles to the base. Dry with a heat tool or air dry.

Step 3. Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock using the Chevron Background die. Use the pattern as a stencil and add ink to your background through the openings in the die cut.

Step 4. Add a couple of freehand-drawn pencil swirls on top of the stenciled area to finish the background. Cut a few pieces of patterned papers and also a part of the stencil and layer together. Use a stapler to attach the layers.

Step 5. Mount the paper layers to the card using foam dots. Cut a banner and a postage stamp-like shape out of Soft Finish cardstock. Use Stitched Fishtail Banners and Postage Stamp Squares dies. Using black Archival Ink, stamp both pieces with Just a Note clear stamps – the word ‘Bonjour’ on the banner and the Eiffel Tower on the square.

Step 6. Cut an arrow from the teal cardstock using one of the dies from the Arrows die set. Adhere that on top of the paper layers. Adhere the banner greeting to the card using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 7. Add a paper clip to the side of the square piece and then attach the piece to the card using foam dots. Mount the layered rectangle to a slightly bigger piece of cardstock to finish it.

Now that you know how I made the card I guess you could see how I changed the steps to make the layout. But I thought it would be fun to make an actual video of the process for you. Before you watch the video (below) maybe you’d like to know first who the person in the photo is? It’s my darling husband! He has a multitude of good things about him, but I really love the wrinkles around his eyes when he smiles! I just love to see him smile!

For more detail photos of and story about both projects, please visit my own blog in a few days. I will share the projects there, too. Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you!

It was lovely to read your words about your hubby, your love for him ‘shines’ through your words.
