Purple Dahlias

July 12, 2017

Piyanki here today!

A big welcome to all. Today I have some freshly-picked dahlias from Susan’s Garden for you, resting on a watercolor background. Dahlias grow in so many colors. You can stay true to the ones found in nature the way Susan always shows, or color in whatever way you prefer. All of the dies from the Susan’s Garden collection are so versatile. Designed to make it easy for you to succeed, they include scored lines to help you shape the petals and leaves.

To make the card follow the instructions below:

  1. Cut watercolor paper to 4″ x 5″.
  2. Sprinkle with a bit of water, then use spray paints or mists to randomly spritz on color. Heat set.
  3. Repeat until pleased with the effect.
  4. Using Entwined Circles dies, cut three pieces from white cardstock.
  5. Adhere the circles onto the background, overlapping as shown.
  6. Using Garden Notes Dahlias die set, cut enough petal pieces from lilac cardstock to make two dahlias, and enough leaves for the two flowers from white cardstock.
  7. Color the petals and leaves with PanPastels, markers, or other coloring medium of choice.
  8. Shape the petals and leaves using Susan’s Metal Tool Set.
  9. Assemble and adhere the flowers directly onto the card front panel. Review Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s tutorial as needed.
  10. Cut white cardstock to 8.5″ x 5.5″; score at 4.25″ and fold in half to form the side-fold card base.
  11. Adhere the card panel onto the card base.
  12. Accent the Entwined Circles with adhesive-backed half pearls. Your card is now finished!
