Winter

August 24, 2017

Hello.  This is Selma Stevenson today and I am excited to show you how to create a scene using the new Becky Seddon Reindeer die set.  Here is how I made the card.

  1.  Start with a 6×6 inch card.  Cut a piece of watercolor paper 6 inches square to create the background.

2.  Use the two tree dies in the Reindeer die set to cut a stencil into a piece of white cardstock.  Use the stencil and light tan ink to sponge the shape of the tree trunk several times onto the watercolor paper.

3.  Die cut two large birch tree trunks and one small tree trunk.  Shade them with light gray ink and use a fine point black marker to create the look of birch bark. Tip: A quick Internet image search will provide photos to help you create a realistic effect.

4.  Die cut four evergreen trees and sponge with green ink.  Color the trunks with a brown marker.

5.  Die cut the deer and sponge with brown ink.  Use an opaque white pen to add the spots on their backs, and a fine point marker to color their eyes and hooves.

6.  Use the landscape die and die cut three snowbanks from White Soft Finish Cardstock.  Glue the three pieces together to form the snowy ground.  Turn the middle piece over so the snowbanks are not all identical. Glue the three pieces only at the sides, leaving the top areas loose for tucking the trees in place.

7.  Die cut a lot of snowflakes.

8.  Use the Joset Designs Winter Sentiment stamp set to stamp ‘Winter” on a scrap piece of white card stock. Fussy cut around the word block with fine point scissors or a craft knife.

9.  Assemble all the die cut pieces to create the scene.  Start by gluing the snowbank down at the bottom.  Next tuck the trees between the snowbanks and attach to the background.  Use a piece of dimensional tape behind the evergreen tree on the lower left side for dimension.  Attach the reindeer using dimensional tape.  Glue on the snowflakes to create a snowy scene.  Attach the sentiment along with three snowflakes at the lower edge of the card.

In addition to celebrating winter, this scene can be used for other occasions. Simply change the sentiment to make it a Christmas, Season’s Greetings, or New Year’s card, or say Happy Birthday to someone born during the chilly season!
