Elizabeth Craft Designs Designer Challenge – November

November 21, 2017
Hi everyone!

It’s time for another Elizabeth Craft Designs Designer Challenge with the Die Cut and Coloring Design Teams.

This month the challenge is …. Pop Up Cards using the General Pop Ups die set. It is always fun to open up a card that reveals something popped up inside and they are so easy to create when you have this remarkable die set. There are so many different options for creating pop up cards. Use just one die or combine multiple dies along the centre fold and create an endless array of fun pop-ups!

If you want even more ideas showing how to use the General Pop Ups die set, Els and Joset have two videos at Technique Friday with Els on YouTube. You can find Joset’s Birthday Pop-up here and Els’ Christmas Pop-up Card here.

For our Challenge today we are giving away a $20 Gift Card to use on the Elizabeth Craft Designs website to 3 winners.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this blog post below and answer this question: What Elizabeth Craft Designs dies or stamp sets would you use with the General Pop-Ups die set if you were making a Pop-Up Card?

We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing.

The winners will be announced on Friday, November 24th, here on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Now let’s take a look at the wonderful creations our talented Design Team have created for the Challenge this month. For more information about the cards, click on the designer’s name under each card to be taken to the designer’s blog post.

Sanna Lippert created the fun pop-up card above using three of the pop-up dies included in the General Pop Ups die set, so that her images could be at different levels. Sanna also used Krista Schneider’s Winter Bears Clear Stamp set with coordinating dies and Holiday Cheer Clear Stamp set and White Soft  Finish Cardstock.

Karen used the Snowglobe Scene and Stitched Circles die sets, Row of Houses Clear Stamp Set with coordinating dies as well as the Christmas Collection Clear Stamp set.

She also used Christmas Tree; A Way with Words – Wishing You A, A Way with Words – Merry Christmas, and Dotted Scallop Rectangles die sets. The stamped images are from the Candy Land Clear Stamp set die cut with coordinating dies. All images have been covered in glitter using Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Also used on this card are the Stitched Rectangles and Dotted Rectangles die sets.

Like the reindeer die and the Christmas sentiment stamp set . I can’t remember which one it was. But really, I love everything you have. Would be difficult but also fun to choose between everything.

  • Mary Puskar November 24, 2017 at 10:02 am

I LOVE the trees and deer. That would have to be my first choice.

  • Dolores Johnson November 23, 2017 at 7:13 pm

  • Dolores Johnson November 23, 2017 at 7:11 pm

They are all beautiful, but I am drawn to the reindeer and adventure edges die sets.

  • Barbara H November 23, 2017 at 3:18 pm

The samples are all great. I’d choose the snow globe and the pumpkins. So hard to choose. The snowman is so darned cute too!

  • Denise Bryant November 23, 2017 at 11:15 am

Awesome creations! Love all these fun pop up cards! I love snowmen that is one I’d make for sure! And I just bought your delightful set of dies at the Sacramento convention with the cute scarecrow…. so I’d definitely make a pop up card with a fall scene including the scarecrow!

  • Barbara Holmes November 22, 2017 at 3:46 pm

I already have the Christmas tree pop up. Would love to have the general pop up set to place a Santa or candy canes inside card as well!

  • Henriëtte November 22, 2017 at 1:11 pm

Wow, what a great cards has the Design Team created,. This way you can very clearly see that you can make many different cards with the Pop-Up Dies.
If I would make a Pop-Up card I would like to use the Reindeer Die (1408), I think that this is a die you also can use for a more masculine birthday card than only for Winter/Holiday cards.

  • Susan Green November 22, 2017 at 7:28 am

I would love to use the little winter bears…..so cute.

  • TracyM #6773 November 22, 2017 at 7:04 am

  • Sabrina Radican November 22, 2017 at 1:20 am

WOW….. That is truly a hard one. There are three that are right at the top of my list but they are all very stinkin’ cute!!!
The first one is the bears of course, then the Reindeer and then it’s a toss up between the Gingerbread House and the Candy Lane.

  • shartl November 21, 2017 at 11:40 pm

I made several pop up cards when I was a kid, but they were pretty flimsy affairs and I could have used a nice pop up die set back then! If I made one now, I would go straight for the winter bears set, which is ridiculously adorable!!

  • Vivian C. November 21, 2017 at 11:38 pm

I so love pop ups. The design team did a fabulous job on their cards! There are lots of ECD items that would be fun to pop up, the pinwheel, winter birds, lighthouse, the shark from the sailor’s life set. The list just keeps on going.

  • Brenda S. November 21, 2017 at 10:53 pm

These are really pretty. I especially like the pumpkins. I’d probably do a Christmas theme with the trees and deer.

  • Kathy Ferguson November 21, 2017 at 10:43 pm

I loved all of the designer’s pop up cards. If I made one today I would use the penguin stamp set and dies. They are so cute and festive for Christmas and my granddaughters would love them!

  • karenladd November 21, 2017 at 10:30 pm

These pop up cards are just spectacular and I especially like the snowy woodland scenes with the deer. These pop up dies can be used to make cards for every season and occasion.

Forgot to add that I would use the Reindeer and Adventure Edges with the pop up dies for my card!

There are so many possibilities but think I would use a barn, a fence and a horse and then a few extra embellishments.

  • Talitha Wright November 21, 2017 at 4:53 pm

These cards are all great! I would use the Festive Glow die set. I love it and hope to use it for some of my holiday pop-up cards. Thanks.

  • Becca Yahrling November 21, 2017 at 4:53 pm

Just when I think I have a favorite, along comes another cute pop up card! They are
all so fun and beautiful. I only have a handful of dies by ECD. I would use Chilly the Penguin
for my first try at a pop up card (I’ve never made one).

  • Talitha Wright November 21, 2017 at 4:51 pm

These cards are all great! I would use the Festive Glow die to make a pop up card. I’m planning to do this for my Christmas cards! Wish me luck.
    Thanks.

  • Barb MacAskill November 21, 2017 at 3:08 pm

Birgit and Katelyn’s deer ? scenescapes and Anita’s lovely Winter Wonderland scene are my top three favorites but I love them all!
If I was using the General Pop-ups Dies I would pair them with Gingerbread Home ?. There would also be lots of Gingerbread boys and girls popping up everywhere for maximum fun! TFS! ?✨?✨?

  • Kathy b November 21, 2017 at 2:37 pm

These are really great. I just bought one of your pop up dies and haven’t tried it yet. I think the calligraphy words are great with pop ups. Since it’s that time of year, i’d Choose Merry Christmas.

  • Karen C November 21, 2017 at 1:16 pm

I would use the pumpkin and the reindeer dies! Love these 2. They would be versatile to use with the pop ups!

  • BarbaraF November 21, 2017 at 1:15 pm

I love interactive cards and I love making them. I would have to say for me, it would be the Winter Bear Set. The bears are so cute and would be great as a pop up.

  • Maureen McLaughlin November 21, 2017 at 1:09 pm

Being an Aussie I would have to choose the Sun and Surf stamp and die set because for some of us Christmas celebrations usually involves water and swimming. So for me a pop up card with glistening water, sand and surf boards – an ‘any’ occasion stamp and die set.

  • Jennifer Bateson November 21, 2017 at 1:09 pm

Sorry I like the reindeer die cut

  • Jennifer Bateson November 21, 2017 at 1:05 pm

  • christina stark November 21, 2017 at 11:43 am

The snowglobe is the one… I can already see numerous ways to use the pop up. Being a Realtor I am always looking for items to include in the Congratulations baskets for my clients and I can see myself creating a card with a picture of their new home in the center of the globe and another use is using it as a gumball machine card for the young children and young at heart.

  • Christina Stark November 21, 2017 at 11:38 am

Oh my goodness all of the ideas you have posted are fantastic!! I would use the snow globe for so many different celebrations. I can already see the cards that I will create with this pop up and the other items that went along with the samples. Being a Realtor I am always looking for creative ways to add to their thank you basket and having this set would be a big plus. You can use the pop up die as a bubble gum machine which will be a hit with the children of my clients and of course I would use the globe to put a picture of their home into.. Those are just 2 quick ideas that come to mind for me.
Thank you for the opportunity to win and good luck to everyone who enters the contest, Happy Thanksgiving…

  • Jennifer Olson November 21, 2017 at 11:37 am

I would use the Reindeer Die Set for my POP UP CARD!!

  • Vicki Etheridge November 21, 2017 at 11:15 am

That’s a really tough question because as we can see from all the great samples, you can use almost anything. I personally like using characters (Ghosts, Hedgehog, Gingerbread Man, etc.) and scenery (Pumpkin set, Haunted House set, Halloween Scenery, etc.) with pop-ups. But the possibilities are limitless. Thanks for all the great inspiration!

The cards I make the most are birthday cards, so I would probably use the cake and cupcake dies the most, and then maybe tree dies would be used a lot as well. The flourished frame as a pop up would be great too, and then whatever appropriate sentiment in the frame.

  • Mary Kranz November 21, 2017 at 7:50 am

OMG! You’ve just proved to me that perhaps I can actually make some very noteworthy Christmas cards even this late in the season!

I miss those childhood days when we ALWAYS had snow for Christmas. I’d definitely choose the Ornate Snowflakes to create a shower of crystals (both popped up and also against the flat background) in a variety of colors– pure white and a range of blues. Finish it off with with one of Suzanne Cannon’s Way With Words calligraphy beauties, probably “Believe,” which would make the card appropriate for whatever winter holiday one chooses to celebrate. No coloring needed (thank goodness, because I stink at it)!

I think I’d use the Reindeer in the woods and the Merry Christmas words on my pop up. Another might be the stitched rectangles and the row houses.

My sweet friend Birgit Norton sent me, and I’m SO happy she did! What an amazing collection of fun pop-up cards, ladies! Well done… you make it look so easy – and WHO could not smile when opening?
    Fingers crossed!

I am really getting to the pop ups. I just finished the Karen Burniston’s Sleigh Pop-Up. Going to start on the House & Fence Pop-up, then Christmas Tree Pop-up. The pop-up above are so cute.

Els, is a good instructor on all her cards. Also love all the cards that Karen Burniston comes up with, and of course the is the all the flowers that Susan has. All your designers make such beautiful cards.

When I was reading the question about what dies I would use. Automatically I thought snowglobe, reindeer,or poinsettia. Then scrolling down I saw that the design team also had used a few of these ideas. What an amazing job as well
