Calendar Makeover by Judi Kauffman
My friends love knowing that I will turn their old calendars into something brand new! It’s a January ritual that extends throughout the year. Here it is March and I’m still having fun slicing and dicing the pages…
I cut some of the pages and fold them into envelopes. I cut other pages into small pieces for layering onto card fronts and gift tags! If the paper is heavy enough, I’ll even die cut some sentiments.
When I’m done, I give some of the cards and envelope to the friends who donated the calendars! I get to have the fun of repurposing would have otherwise gone into the recycling bin, they get to enjoy the calendar again in its second incarnation.
Photo Cards by Judi Kauffman
The newest dies in Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words collection, like all of the others that came before them, make me so happy! A single word can express so much.
I started with ‘Because’ for my project. With that word on the front, all that’s needed is the rest of the thought on the inside of the card: Because…you are my friend, Because…I know you’re going through a tough time, Because…you’re my favorite teacher! You get the idea.
Our friend Guy grows the most amazing plumeria plants at his place in Florida, some of them reach almost to the roof. He frequently shares his photos because he knows how much I love flowers and he said I could use them for some cards any time I want. (You guessed it: ‘Because you are my friend’ will be heading his way!)
Photo cards are so easy and you know my mantra: Easy Isn’t Cheating! If you don’t have a color printer, head to the nearest store with a self-service machine in their photo department. I’ve made photo prints at a drug store open on Thanksgiving Day and in a grocery store in California! And what a bargain.
Here’s the recipe:
Hello Artlets! It’s Suzanne here today and I’m so excited to share a card using one of the brand new dies! We have 20 new words that can be used alone or combined with lots of other dies in the A Way With Words Collection. In addition to the new dies, we’re introducing a series of stencils that can be used as feature elements and as backgrounds. Stay tuned to see lots more examples in the coming weeks!
For my first card, I chose this simple format that makes a bold statement. There are so many reasons you might send this card. Because…. I love you, you’re my friend, I can’t stop thinking about you, you’ve been so helpful…. the list is endless!
This card can be easily changed to any colours your heart desires. I fussed with this card for hours, adding ribbon, removing ribbon, adding the heart element from the Calligraphic Elements 2, removing the heart element and on and on it went. My workspace looked like a bomb had gone off in a craft store. Yes, glitter was involved, too! But the more you add, the more you overpower the elegant beauty of the classical broad-edged letterforms and flourishes so I went back to ‘simple’ and here is the final result!
