Mother Nature Is Amazing!

September 12, 2019

Fall is such a wonderful season! The colors are so gorgeous, it inspired me to make this simple card for someone really amazing… just as beautiful as Mother Nature!

Step 1: Card background

  • Cut 12 X 6 inches yellow cardstock and fold in half (to make a 6 X 6 inches card).
  • Cut a 5 3/4 X 5 3/4 inches square out of gold cardstock.
  • Cut a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 White Soft Finish cardstock 110 Lb.

Step 2: Stencil leaves

  • On the white square piece, using the stencil S024-Leaf Snowflake, apply different colors of Distress Oxide on the right side of the square.
  • Using a fine brown marker, draw some vein lines on each leaf.

Step 3: The leaves

  • Using the Leafy Branch 2 – #1315 die set, die cut 3 times in a copper cardstock.
  • With the same die, die cut one time on a White Soft Finish cardstock double with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Sheet.
  • Remove the release sheet and cover with some Orange Silk Microfine Glitters – #413. Polish well to remove excess glitters.
  • Using the Pair Of Leaves 1 – #1314 die set, die cut each leaf in a gold cardstock.
  • With the same dies, die cut each leaves one time on a White Soft Finish cardstock double with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Sheet.
  • Remove the release sheet and cover one leaf with some Orange Silk Microfine Glitters – #413, and the other one with some Light Gold Microfine Glitters – #644. Polish well to remove excess glitters on both leaves.

Step 4 : Water Can

  • Out of White Soft Finish cardstock 110 Lb, die cut the water can, using the die set from Susan’s Garden collection, Garden Notes -Garden Water Can – #1647.
  • Emboss the water can with some patina embossing powder.

Step 5: The sentiment

  • Using the die set “Words 2 – Thinking of You” #1466, die cut the words “you’re” and “amazing” out of some gold cardstock.

The final touch!

  • Using some Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape, adhere the gold cardstock on the card base, and adhere the white cardstock on the gold cardstock.
  • Adhere the water can with some foam adhesive, and arrange the leaves using Kids Choice Glue to fix them in the right places.
  • Glue the sentiment on the bottom of the water can.

Here’s an other look at the finish card:

I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

A Butterfly Birthday

August 24, 2019

Hey Friends! It’s EK and I am popping in today to share a birthday card I created using the Butterflies and Stars spray from the Suzanne Cannon’s A Way with Words Collection. I just love how this simple die can create such bold magical beauty.

Here’s how I made it:

Step One: Blend a trio of Distress Oxides onto some 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock trimmed to 4.25×5.5 inches. I used Cracked Pistachio, Scattered Straw, and Worn Lipstick.

Step Two: Die cut out the butterflies from the blended cardstock using the Butterflies and Stars Spray die. Save the die cut butterflies for later.

Step Three: Die cut the blended background again using the Dashing Rectangles die set.

Step Four: Trim a piece of Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Using 10mm Clear Double Side Adhesive adhere the bonnie blue card stock to an A2 card frame.

Step Five: Adhere the blended cardstock to the bonnie blue cardstock using a combination of 10mm and 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

Step Six: Using Suzanne’s Happy Birthday Collection stamp set add a Birthday sentiment. I also used a stamp from the Wedding Sentiments stamp set to add a a little visual interest.

Step Seven: Using some Kids Choice Glue, adhere back on the die cut butterflies to the finished card.

While this is a fairly simple card to craft, I think it has a huge visual impact with its trio of colors and spray of butterflies. Thank you for peeking in today to this butterfly birthday card. Let me know what trio of colors you would have used with your spray of butterfly stamp set in the comments below. Until then, happy crafting.

Wild About…Paper Piecing

August 18, 2019

Hello! Samantha here sharing a card I created using one of my favourite Krista Schneider stamp sets called Cacti. One of the things I loved most about making this card was that I didn’t use any colouring medium. The background is cardstock and the cacti’s are all paper pieced with pattern paper! It’s a fun technique that I haven’t used in the longest time…

Card Instructions:

Step 1: Die cut the smallest Diagonal Stitched Fishtail die 12x using four different colours of cardstock.

Step 2: Position and adhere all the die cut fishtails on to your card front as shown below. Trim off any excess card.

Step 3: Stamp the three cacti on cardstock then die cut them out.

Step 4: Partially stamp each cacti again on pattern paper.

Step 5: Using scissors or a craft knife cut out each cacti part. Adhere these to the die cut Cacti as shown below.

Step 6: (Optional) Punch holes in each cacti and add an embroidery feature.

Step 7: Stamp the sentiment.

Step 8: Using foam tape, adhere the cacti’s and embellish the card with a twine bow and enamel dots. Adhere cardfront to an A6 cardbase.

I’ve now coloured and paper pieced this stamp set and I love the look of both –– I loved revisiting this technique again and I hope you get a chance to give it a go too!

Happy Crafting!

Samantha

A ‘Masculine’ Way With Words

July 27, 2019

Hey Friends! It is EK here and I thought I would share the masculine birthday card I created with you today.

I find masculine cards really difficult to create a lot of the times, let alone masculine birthday cards. However I have found that the A Way With Words line from Suzanne Cannon really does am a great job leaning toward my masculine card making needs.

Step One: Die cut some 90lb White Soft Finish Cardstock with the Butterflies & Stars Sprays die twice with the star die. This will allow you to create your own stencil with the star cut outs.

Step Two: Using the homemade stencil, add some Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide onto a piece of 6×6 trimmed piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Three: Die cut the inked paper with the A Way With Words Big Balloon die set.

Step Four: Ink the edges of the balloon with some Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

Step Five: Trim a piece of Cafe au Cait Soft Finish Cardstock to 12×6 inches and score and fold the cardstock to make a 6×6 inch card frame. Spray the front of the card with some brown metallic ink so there are some splotches of reflective ink.

Step Six: Die cut a piece of Thinking About Grand Canyon paper with the Stitched Indented Square die set. Adhere the die cut onto the card frame using some 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Adhere the die cut balloon on top of the die cut square.

Step Seven: Die cut the bow from the Big Balloon die set out of the left over stenciled cardstock. Adhere to the balloon.

Step Eight: Die cut the sentiment from the A Way With Words Happy Birthday 3 die set out of both a piece of Thinking About Grand Canyon printed paper and some White Soft Finish Cardstock. Layer the printed paper over the white cardstock, letting a bit of the white show on the upper left side of the word. Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the sentiment to the card frame.

I really love how this card can be used for any gender at any age. It is a simple message, but exactly the one you want to convey.

Sweet Raccoon

July 23, 2019

It’s Karen here today. I have been afraid of raccoons since I was a little girl. My family and I were camping at Big Sur, and when I went to take the garbage out at night, they jumped out at me! Ok, they were just there….but for a little girl, it was pretty scary. The brand new Raccoon die from Elizabeth Craft Designs, however, isn’t scary at all.
