Father’s Day Scrapbook Page

Scrapbook

Hello everyone,

It’s Joset here today. Sunday is Father’s Day and because of that I wanted to share a fun Father’s Day project. My daughter is too young to create a scrapbook page for her dad so I created one for her. For this page I used a combination of  die sets from the Els van de Burgt Studio Collection to cut mats and frames for the photos and title block. They are so fun and easy to use and you can coordinate, mix, match and layer them if you have several of the same shape. I used Dotted Scallop Rectangles, Fitted Rectangles and Fitted Frames 1 Lace Rectangles. I chose a bright and happy color scheme and added Corners and Bees to tie things together.

Happy Birthday Pinwheel Card

June 3, 2016

Pinwheel 1

Hi everyone, It’s Joset here today sharing a colorful Happy Birthday Pinwheel card. Once I finished this card I remembered Frances showing me the beautiful card she created for her post yesterday using the Pinwheel die, so today’s pinwheel card with a different twist shows just how versatile the die can be. Pinwheels bring back fun memories from my childhood when I played with these colorful, shiny toys. I found one at the dollar store the other day and bought it for my daughter. We put it on the front of our bike so she could look at it when we go for a ride. She loves it! I hope you like pinwheels too. Here is how I created this card:

Sea Shells & Lighthouse Card

March 17, 2016

Shells lighthouse

Hi everyone,

It’s Joset here today sharing this Sea Shells & Lighthouse card with you. Although we still have a little bit of snow on the ground here in Banff, I felt like creating a summery card. I used the Lighthouse, Shells Large, Shells Small, Fitted Rectangles and Stitched Rectangles dies, as well as my favorite Soft Finish Cardstock from Elizabeth Craft Designs. And, of course, my go-to Distress Ink to add a touch of color. Let’s get started!

Instructions:

1. Cut Pink Peach Soft Finish Cardstock 5 3/4″ x 9″. Score at 4 1/2 and fold in half to create your card base.

2. Cut rectangle from White Soft Finish Cardstock using the largest rectangle die from the Fitted Rectangles. Use an ink applicator tool or sponge to add color at the edges with Tattered Rose Distress Ink. Adhere to card front.

3. Cut another rectangle from the same cardstock, this time with the second largest rectangle in the Stitched Rectangles die set. Add Tattered Rose Distress Ink to the edges as in step 2. Layer to card front, centered.

4. Die cut 1 solid lighthouse, 1 lighthouse overlay, 1 lighthouse balcony and 1 anchor from White Soft Finish Cardstock. For the overlay and balcony, back the cardstock with Double Sided Adhesive first before die cutting. Save the die cut leftover pieces from the bottom part of the lighthouse and the lighthouse door as you’re going to color these and place them back into their original spots later in the project.

5. Color lighthouse overlay and the 3 leftover die cut pieces with Tattered Rose Distress Ink.

6. Adhere the lighthouse overlay to the solid lighthouse and place the die cut pieces back where they began.

7. To complete your lighthouse, adhere the balcony.

8. Die cut various sea shells from White Soft Finish Cardstock using Shells Large and Shells Small. For each shell, die cut a solid piece and the matching overlay (for the overlay, apply Double Sided Adhesive on the back of the cardstock first before die cutting) and save the leftover die cut pieces from the overlay.

Now it’s time to color the shells. Use the same method for all of them as you see in the step by step photos showing the scallop shell.

9. Color the bottom part of the solid shell and the shell overlay with Tattered Rose Distress Ink.

10. Adhere the overlay on the solid shell and place the leftover die cut pieces back where they began. For the large scallop shell, leave out the small pieces at the bottom. Because that area on the solid shell has been colored, leaving those off creates extra dimension.

11. Using your bending tool and Distress Ink, gently apply a touch of ink in a circular motion over the complete shell to add some color to the leftover pieces you just placed back in their original ‘parking places’. Shade the bottom of the shell with just a bit more ink.

12. Repeat step 9, 10 and 11 to color the rest of the shells. Use the leftover die cut pieces from the overlays where you would like to add more dimension or just color the solid and overlay as I did with the two smallest shells and discard the leftovers.

13. Adhere lighthouse and shells to card front as shown. Overlap the shells and use one or more layers of foam tape for added dimension. Add string to the anchor, then pierce a hole at the top right corner of the card and tie the anchor in place. Note that the shells are at angles and the starfish is centered below the lighthouse as the final (topmost) layer.

I hope you enjoyed creating this Sea Shells & Lighthouse Card made with the lovely Soft Finish Cardstock and Distress Ink!

Altered Savings Bank

March 10, 2016

Hello there, Sanna here again with my first March project. I have recently discovered how much fun it can be creating your own home décor objects. I like to make practical things with a purpose besides looking good, hence, a savings bank made from a box as an altered object. I can use it to hold money I’m saving and it is a pretty accent for a mantel, shelf or table.

I ♥ Annika

Frame 1

By Els van de Burgt

For a long time I had an idea and a dream: To someday turn my collection of close-up photos of textures into printed papers! Well, it turns out that dreams DO come true and my Through the Lens patterned paper pack series is now a reality, part of the exciting new Els van de Burgt Studio product release taking place at the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) show in California in early January. And this project is a sneak peek at sheets from the pack called ‘Wood Series’ – Forty-eight 6×6 sheets (80lb/220gr), 16 designs, 3 sheets per design. Please check out the other two packs, Stone Series and Metal Series, too, as they were designed to coordinate with each other.

Of course, I’m sure that what you noticed first about the project was not wood grain, or even the ropes and hearts. I know it is my granddaughter Annika’s face that caught your eye! And that was precisely my goal with the project: To show how easy it is to mix textures in Through the Lens papers to create frames and backgrounds for the focal photo.

In addition to Through the Lens papers, the project also incorporates the new Ropes die set (4 different dies), Fitted Rectangles and Stitched Rectangles dies from the new release, as well as hearts from Ornament Set 5 that came out a few months back. My dies have always been designed to mix and match, to combine and collect. Dies you bought years ago, whatever you choose now and in the future will always be easy to coordinate because I design them for maximum versatility. It’s like how I furnish my home and organize my studio: New things and old things getting together.

Because no two people will have the same photos to showcase, my instructions are written with tips on how to alter and customize the project. Here’s how it works…

Frame 2

Instructions:

  1. Choose a focal photo. Use a vertical rectangle as shown. Other options – Circles, ovals, squares.
  1. Choose Through the Lens papers in 3 different coordinating patterns that compliment the photo. I love the contrast that a black and white photo offers, but color photos work well with Through the Lens papers, too.

Frame 3

  1. Choose 2 Fitted Rectangles and 1 Stitched Rectangles dies that fit one inside the other. Starting with the smallest of the three, die cut the photo print. From two different Through the Lens papers die cut a Stitched Rectangle for the first border (the wider, inner mat) and a Fitted Rectangle for the second border (a narrower mat). Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to adhere the layers. Alternatively, die cut the photo and two mats using Fitted and Stitched Squares, Ovals or Circles dies.
  1. Again using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, adhere the double-bordered photo to the third 6×6 Through the Lens paper. Adhere to an 8×8 square of coordinating solid color cardstock.
  1. Die cut 4 Ropes strips from Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to cutting, 5 heart charms cut from Through the Lens papers and 3 heart charms cut from Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz that has been lightly sanded. (Hearts are not backed with adhesive.) Reminder: A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. View my video tutorial HERE if you are new to this technique. Use Distress Ink to lightly ink the edges of the Ropes strips and bring out the embossed details.

Frame 4

  1. Use twine to tie heart charms to the rope that has open areas (the strip that looks something like a chain). Layer and overlap the hearts as shown.

Frame 5

  1. Assemble the project with 1 rope as a horizontal element across the bottom of the photo (positioned so that the rope curves upward and an unraveled end stops at the right side as shown) and 3 ropes (including the one with hearts) as vertical elements toward the left, overlapping for added interest. Make sure that the hearts ‘dance’ and are not hanging straight down. They are grouped at angles to the left, then right, left then right again.
  1. Mat and frame the project. (I chose a simple and inexpensive standard 8×8 frame.) Options: Add the page to an 8×8 scrapbook. Back it with chipboard and display on a bulletin board or easel. Add flat magnets and put it on the fridge!

I can’t wait to make more projects featuring Annika! I’m having so much fun with my dream-come-true Through the Lens paper packs! And I can’t wait to see what you create, too, so be sure to join the Elizabeth Craft Designs Facebook Family so you can post your projects for the community to see.
