Glitter Inlay Technique – Pinecone Card

October 9, 2014

Hello Everyone!

It’s Debra Hensley today. In Texas, Fall has many colors but most of them are shades of green. The tall Pine trees start showing Pinecones to signify the turning of the season. I love looking up at a the towering Pines against a blue sky. That image was the inspiration for my card today. One of the first techniques I learned from Els was a red glittered background with white glittered snowflakes inlaid seamlessly into the panel. It was so beautiful! I knew I wanted to use that technique for my card today.

Here’s how I created my card:

1. Fold a 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 piece of white cardstock in half to form a standard A2 size card. Cut a piece of Kraft colored cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4. Ink the edges with brown ink and adhere to the white base.

2. Cut a piece of white cardstock to 5 1/2 x 4 1/2. Cover it with a piece of double sided adhesive sheet. Adhere well and trim to 5 x 3 3/4. Using some extra pieces of release sheet I had saved from other projects (Always save those release sheets!) Die cut 3 pine sprigs and one pinecone overlay from the release sheets.

3. To created the inlay, remove the release sheet from the cardstock panel, careful not to get fingerprints on it as they will show in the glitter. Place the pine sprig die cuts on the adhesive side where you want them to be. Place the release sheet you pulled off the panel over the top to avoid touching the adhesive, then rub over the pine sprig die cuts well so there are no lifted edges. This will ensure nice crisp images.

4. I created a mix of  Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and Sky Silk Microfine Glitter to get a lighter blue for the sky. Cover the entire panel with the glitter and polish well with your finger making sure not to lift any of the edges of the pine sprig die cuts.

5 Remove the release sheet pine sprigs, careful not to touch the exposed adhesive.

6. Using various shades of Green Glitter, sprinkle different sections of the pine sprigs.

7. Rub the glitter in well. Brush off the remaining glitter and save the mixture for another use. You can purchase empty mixing bottles for just that purpose in our online store here.

The panel should look like this when you are finished. Isn’t it beautiful!

8. To created the pinecones, die cut three pinecone silhouettes from kraft colored cardstock covered with double sided adhesive. Peel off the liner and add the pinecone overlay to the exposed adhesive carefully. Glitter with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and polish well, careful not to lift any edges.

9. Remove the overlay release sheet and glitter with Chocolate Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish well. In the photo below, the last pinecone is done in reverse so you can see the difference if you wanted to do it another way.

10. Add the pinecones to the card front with foam adhesive on the bottom only and a glue dot on the top to give dimension. The second pinecone in the cluster is adhered directly to the background with no pop dots.

11. Cut a strip of white cardstock to 3 1/4 by 3/4. Cut a strip of kraft cardstock to 3 x 5/8. Ink the kraft strip with brown ink.  Cut a “v” into one end of each strip. Adhere together. Add Missing You Peel-off in Gold to the strip. Add adhesive to the left edge only. Use your fingers to curve to give a banner like effect. Adhere to card front. Add Gold corner Peel-Offs to the four corners to complete.

Two Tag Cards, Halloween and Christmas

October 8, 2014

Halloween Tag Front

Created by Mary Dimercurio Prasad for Elizabeth Craft Designs

There are so many possibilities for the new Tags & More dies – I couldn’t wait to try them.
I chose two of the three sets, Lace and Leaves, and made a pair of cards, one with a Halloween theme and one with a Christmas theme. They are a little smaller than A2 size.

Making the Cards

1. Fold a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of black cardstock in half lengthwise. Cut in half,
giving you two cards measuring 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches with the fold on the long side.

2. Line up and center the basic tag from Tags & More 1 – Lace at the top of one of the folded cards (front) such that the edge of the folded card is inside the left edge of the die. You will
not be cutting the fold, just the top of the card. Run it through the die cutting machine.
Repeat with the basic tag from Tags & More 3 – Leaves on other card. Using a paper trimmer, cut the tag down the right (open) edge of both cards, keeping the cut parallel to the fold.
This cleans up the straight line on that side of the tag and ensures that the tag shaped card is perfect at both the left and right sides.

3. Using decorator dies with each set, open cards and cut top front of each, lining up holes.

4. For Halloween card, cut around spider Peel-Off and use it to roughly measure off the same amount of Double Sided Adhesive. Peel off backing paper and stick to white cardstock.
Peel off the other side and stick spider Peel-Off to it. Coat with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and polish with finger. Color with alcohol markers. Fussy cut around design.

5. Cut candy corn paper using Katie Label Accordion main die. Line up and cut again in opposite direction to remove tabs, etc. so you have only the label part as shown. Using label die (one size down), cut black cardstock. Adhere candy corn label to center of card front as shown. Adhere black cardstock then, using dimensional tape, adhere the spider as shown.

Halloween Tag Close

6. Cut a piece of candy corn paper using main Tag 1 die; trim edges. Using Agatha Edge with bracket point, center and trim as desired to line inside top of card; adhere offset a little, then use small hole die to recut hole. Cut round reinforcement from black cardstock; adhere around inside hole over candy corn paper to hide the offset hole.

Halloween Tag Inside

7. (Optional) If Halloween twine is too white, dye it with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
Tap Antique Linen onto nonporous surface such as a craft sheet and mist with water.
Roll Halloween twine in it. Let dry. Ditto with Christmas twine (I used less ink and more water for a subtle tint).

8. Tap Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink onto a nonporous surface such as a craft sheet.
Mist with water. Saturate a length of seam binding ribbon in it. Clean craft sheet. Do same with Bundled Sage and another length of seam binding ribbon. Let dry.

9. For the Christmas card, cut solid stocking from red chevron paper and black cardstock.
Cut stocking top, heel, and toe from green paper (back of red chevron). Cut green paper 3 1/16 x 3 1/2 inches. Cut stocking paper 2 13/16 x 3 1/4. Adhere green and stocking papers to card front as shown.

10. For each card, tie twine in a bow on card front as shown. Tie dyed seam binding through back hole as shown. Stick “Boo!” embellishment on card as shown; ditto for glittered snowflake.

Christmas Tags

October 7, 2014

DSCF4380_2

Hello crafty friends,

This is Rita Edwards here and I would like to share my new Christmas tags with you.

With so many gorgeous Elizabeth Craft Designs products to choose from, project ideas are endless. There are  wonderful dies, Silk Microfine Glitter, embossing folders and great Peel-off Stickers. Today I challenged myself to make something that is easy for you to recreate using just a handful of products.

As always, I hope you have a nice cup of coffee or tea in your hand so you can sit back and enjoy my tutorial.

This is how you can create your very own Christmas tags:

1. Cut the pearl, purple and gold metallic cardstocks at 3.25″ wide x 6″ high, 2 of each color. These cuts will serve as the base for our tags.

2. Using the new Tags & More 2 – Deco die set, position the large tag die over 1 set of metallic tag base and secure with a piece of temporary craft tape. Using the Snowflakes die set, position one of the snowflakes onto the tag base and also secure with a piece of temporary craft tape. Die cut all at once. Positioning the snowflakes on the different metallic cardstocks in different positions will give each tag its unique design.

3. Using the Merry Christmas die and the new Tags & More 2 – Deco die set, die cut 3 sentiments, 3 sets of corner pieces and 3 reinforcements for each tag from complimenting metallic cardstocks.

4. Cut clear acetate 3″ wide x 3″ high and adhere one between each set of tags over the slowflake die cuts.

The photo below will show you all of the die cut pieces for 3 slightly different Christmas tags.

DSCF4356_2

5. Finish each tag with a white ribbon, Glitter Dots and Glitter Borders.

As always, I would like to thank you for following my tutorial and I hope that you have as much fun making tags as I did.

Hugs, Rita

Gift Card Holder

October 4, 2014

Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel Mason. With the holiday season approaching, I wanted to make a gift card holder using Elizabeth Craft Designs’ new Tags & More 1 Lace. Let me show you how I made it.

ECD sneak peak gift card holder

1.  Cut pattern paper at 3.25 x 11 and score at 3.25 and 7.75. Use Tags & More 1 to die cut the tag shape into the top.

2.  Cut vanilla cardstock at 2 x 3.25. Use Tags & More 1 to die cut the lace shape. Use scissors to cut the bottom following the “V” shape then adhere to pattern paper from step 1 as shown.

3.  Cut dark brown cardstock at 2 x 3.25. Use Tags & More 1 to die cut the lace shape. Adhere the “Lace” pieces into the open areas on vanilla cardstock.

ECD sneak peak gift card holder 2

4.  Cut pattern paper at 1 x 3.25 and adhere to the panel on the right as shown.

ECD sneak peak gift card holder 3

5.  From dark brown cardstock die cut 4 corner pieces from Tags & More 1. Center gift card on middle panel. Use these 4 pieces to hold the gift card in position (like photo corners in an album). One small glue dot per corner should be plenty. To be 100% sure the gift card can’t fall out, add a piece of low-tack removable (poster) tape on the back to secure it.

6.  Cut dark brown cardstock at 3 x 3 and adhere to panel on the right as shown. Cut vanilla cardstock at 2.75 x 2.75 and adhere on top of dark brown. This step is optional, but it provides a spot to write a personalized greeting.

7.  Cut dark brown ribbon at 12″. Thread ribbon through hole, wrap around gift card holder and tie a knot.

8. Other options – Instead of a gift card, tuck in an Artist Trading Card, photo, a ticket to a movie, play or sporting event, or a coupon good for babysitting or a homemade treat. (Lengthen the tag if needed.)

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and feel inspired to try it out yourself.

Happy Crafting,

Raquel

Halloween Spider Card

October 2, 2014

Good morning! Karen Aicken here with today’s blog post. I wanted to share a Halloween card using some of the wonderful new products from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

KarenAicken_HalloweenSpider_1

When I made this card, most of my studio had been packed away for our move. Only basic supplies were left out and a few sheets of Halloween themed paper. It shows that you don’t need a ton of supplies to make a great card, when your supply kit includes versatile dies and themed Peel-offs from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

KarenAicken_HalloweenSpider_2

1.  Cut black cardstock 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 and score in the center to form a standard A2 card
(4-1/4 x 5-1/2).

2.   Cut a panel of black cardstock 4″ x 5-1/4″ and emboss with the Spring Leaves embossing folder.

3.  Adhere the embossed panel to the card front and outline with a sparkly gel pen.

4.  Cut a piece of sparkly bat paper 3-1/4″ wide and 5″ long. Using one of the NEW Tags and More dies, cut the top edge. Center the leafy decorative overlay die at the top of the die cut tag and run the paper through your cutting machine again, which will give you this lovely leaf shaped aperture in your tag.

5.  Add one of the corner dies to the lower left corner of the sparkly bat tag and run it through your machine. Repeat with the other corner and the same die.

6.  Since I was adding the tag to a card, I wanted to back the openings with contrasting paper. Cut purple cardstock 3-1/4″ wide, 2″ long and cut with the same curved Tags & More die you used for the main tag. Attach behind the sparkly bat tag lining up the top and side edges and outline each leaf with a silver metallic marker if desired.

7.  Cut two pieces of purple cardstock scraps slightly larger than the corner cut-outs and adhere one behind each corner. Outline corners with silver metallic marker if desired.

KarenAicken_HalloweenSpider_3

8.  Add the Halloween Spider Peel-off to a piece of purple cardstock and fussy cut.

9.  Add colour with gel pens.

10.  Cut a piece of Double Sided Adhesive and white cardstock 2″ x 1-1/2″. Peel the backing paper off one side of the Double Sided Adhesive and attach the white cardstock. Peel off the remaining liner and turn it so the side that was touching the sticky adhesive is face up.
Remove the candy corn peel-off from the sheet and lay it on the liner, sticky side up. Now lay the sticky side of your cardstock backed adhesive over the peel-off and liner and pull away the liner.  Your peel-off should now be attached to the double sided adhesive!

11.  Pour Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over the sticky adhesive, tap off the excess onto a sheet of scrap paper or coffee filter (for returning to the container) and rub the glittered peel-off with your finger to polish the glitter and bring up the sparkle.

12.  Color with markers and fussy cut.

13.  Add foam tape to the back of your sparkly candy corn and adhere it over the candy corn on the spider peel-off.

KarenAicken_HalloweenSpider_4

14.  Cut a reinforcement from the same Tags and More die set using purple card stock, punch or poke a hole in the center and attach over the tag hole with a sparkly brad.

KarenAicken_HalloweenSpider_5

15.  Decorate the inside as desired. I cut a piece of the sparkly bat paper (4 x 5-1/4) and attached it inside the card.

16.  The black cardstock was cut to 3-1/4 x 4-1/2″ and I used the same corner die from the Tags and More 3 die set as I did on the front tag, to cut an opening in the top left and bottom right corners of this black panel.

17.  Back the opening with scraps of purple cardstock as we did on the front, and outline with
a silver metallic marker if desired.

18.  Doodle a line connecting the cut-away corners as shown, and hand letter the words with gel pen. Alternatively, you could stamp a greeting and emboss with a light coloured embossing powder.

19.  Adhere to the sparkly bat paper with a strong adhesive and your sweet, spooky card is ready to mail!

There you have it – a fun Spider Halloween Card! There are SO many options with these new Tags and More dies, but I wanted to show that they work wonderfully on an A2 card as well.
