A Way With Words

Pink and White Poinsettias

September 21, 2015

ECD-SGDT-Sept-2015

Good Morning. This is Selma Stevenson, a member of Susan’s Design Team. Today I created a Christmas card using Susan’s beautiful Susan’s Garden Notes – Poinsettia die. Here are the instructions:

l.  This is a 6″x6″ card with three white layers attached on top. Score around the edges of all three layers for a finished look.

2.  Use the Lots of Dots embossing folder to create dimension on the smallest layer.

3.  Glue the middle layer to the largest layer, then attach the bottom layer to the main card with dimensional tape. Attach the smallest (embossed) layer on top with dimensional tape.

ECD-SGDT-Sept-2015-tut

4.  Die cut enough poinsettia petals to create three poinsettias. Draw definition on each petal – use the Leaf tool from Susan’s Tool Kit to draw in the lines.

5.  To create the pink and white flowers, use Spun Sugar Distress Ink and a Fantastix to add ink along the center of each petal.  Place a few drops of the Distress Ink on the Teflon Work Sheet and next to it spray some water. Wet the Fantastix with water, then dip in the concentrated ink. Dab the ink up the center of each petal. The ink will run a little to give it a natural look.

6.  Allow the petals to dry, then shape them with the medium stylus from Susan’s Tool Kit. Assemble the flowers with as many petals as you like.  For the center of the flowers, I used the green and yellow Viva Paper Pen to create the little circles, then glued them in the center of the flower, once they were dry.

7.  Die cut the poinsettia leaves, then shape. I like to die cut my leaves using white cardstock then color them. I colored them green, then added a tinge of red.

8.  Die cut Garden Notes – Whitepine Boughs. I like to use the Fine Pointed Scissors to cut between each “needle” of the pine bough to make them thinner, but this isn’t necessary.

9.  Die cut the Quietfire “Believe” sentiment out of silver glitter cardstock. It doesn’t show very well, but I also die cut the ECD Circles out of silver glitter cardstock and it is under the poinsettias.

10.  To finish the card, ECD Peel off Lines and Corner Stickers were added.

Don’t you think the pink and white poinsettias, along with the silver, create a beautiful card?

Spooky & Sparkly Halloween Cards

September 20, 2015

10-4-2015-D

By Judi Kauffman

I love Halloween! I’ve always believed that a holiday devoted to cards, candy and costumes is as good as it gets.

10-4-2015-A

10-4-2015-B

10-4-2015-C

This trio of A2 size cards is super easy to make. I wanted a lot of sparkle so I picked shimmering acrylic paints and metallic mesh for the background layers. And to create quick and seamless color blends I got out the Chameleon Pens.

A side note: I designed the Halloween in Frame Peel-Offs and hope you have fun coloring them!

Instructions:

  1. Place Black Halloween in Frame Peel-offs onto white cardstock and color with Chameleon Pens to create soft blends. Fussy cut around the edges taking care not to cut off the spider’s feet or witch’s hat and broom where they extend past the frame. (Optional: Color the candy corn and other extras on the Peel-offs sheet and use them to embellish the inside of the card.)
  1. Paint a piece of textured paper with shimmering paints in shades of yellow gold, olive green, lime green and dark pumpkin. Allow paint to dry. Cut a 3” x 4” rectangle for each card. As shown: Base paper is a 12” x 12” sheet of dark blue handmade mulberry paper, enough for 12 cards.

10-4-2015-G

  1. Layer painted rectangles onto black cardstock: Cut around all four sides, leaving a ¼” border.

10-4-2015-H

  1. Cover the card fronts with mesh: Use Gold or Silver Foil tape to secure a piece of mesh to each card front, wrapping it to the back and to the inside of the card front. Trim away the extra ½”. (Foil tape holds the mesh in place and acts as a decorative element.)

10-4-2015-E

  1. Adhere a painted rectangle with black border to each card front. Center the Halloween in Frame Peel-off, using foam tape for added dimension.
  1. Line the right side of the interior of the card with white cardstock cut to 4” x 5.25” (a place for writing or stamping a greeting and your name).

10-4-2015-F

  1. Optional embellishment: Use wire cutter to trim away the shank from a Gem Spider Ring. Position the spider at an angle toward the bottom right of the card front as shown on the Jack O’ Lantern card. Use foam tape for added dimension.

Western Anniversary Card

September 19, 2015

Hello my crafty friends! It’s Raquel Mason here today.  I’d like to show you how to make an easy masculine anniversary card with a colorful background.  Let’s get started!

PIUW Western Anniversary 1 PIUW Western Anniversary 2

  1.  Cut vanilla card stock base at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, score at 4 1/4.
  2. Cut Soft Finish card stock at 3 1/8 x 4 3/8.
  3. Cut white card stock and Transparent Double Sided Adhesive at 3 1/4 x 4 1/2.  Adhere Clear Double Sided Adhesive to the white card stock, remove release sheet and cover with Silver Silk Microfine Glitter, brush off excess and polish with your finger.  Here’s a video where Els shows how to apply Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.
  4. Die cut the following pieces shown in the photo below:
  • Flourish Gift Frame – dark brown
  • Happy Anniversary – dark brown
  • (2) boots from Props 6 – dark brown (use a white gel pen for stitches if desired)
  • (2) small stars from Props 6 – small scrap of white card stock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive already applied then cover with Silver Silk Microfine Glitter
  • Western Edges – horses & barbed wire light brown (sponge horses with brown ink if desired)
  • Gift Card Accordion – stitched label – white (not shown)

PIUW Western Anniversary pieces 3

5.  Stamp sentiment from Homegrown Greetings using dark brown ink onto the stitched label cut in step 4

PIUW Western Anniversary pieces 4

6.  Swipe desired colors of ink directly to the Soft Finish Card Stock, use a sponge to blend colors slightly so they overlap.  Using a spray bottle filled with water, spray directly onto your hand then flick the water onto the cardstock.  Let dry or use a heat tool.

7.  Assemble all layers together using the photos for placement.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and feel inspired to try it out yourself.

Happy Crafting,

Raquel

Not for Minimalists

September 18, 2015

9-15-2015-A

By Judi Kauffman

This is the story of how an über-busy card evolved. But the story doesn’t have an ending because I can’t decide whether I love it or should hide it under a rock. The jury is still out.

What do you think?

It started out as a simple elegant card. I put a 3.5” x 5” piece of alcohol-ink altered Red Metallic Shimmer Sheetz onto the front of a black A2 size top-fold card base and die cut the word Believe from dark wine red cardstock to place at an angle, using slivers of Power Tabs to add dimension.

But it was so boring and needed something else. I altered some lacy black border peel-offs with the same alcohol inks and put a strip at the right and left sides of the Shimmer Sheetz. Better, but still not very interesting.

I added a second die cut layer, this time the word Believe in soft beige, again held in place with slivers of Power Tabs to add dimension.

9-15-2015-B

Things were looking up but the card remained kind of gloomy and I wanted something livelier. I die cut Ribbons & Jewels strips and Circles background from Red Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz, backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet and positioned pieces around the top and bottom of the card.

Happy at last! And while I was at it, I added a bit more sparkle with Transparent Glitter Dots.

DONE!

9-15-2015-C

But this card is definitely Not for Minimalists. If your first response was that this card has way too much going on:

*Stop after the first step or two.

*Switch to a color combination that is more to your liking.

*Choose different peel-offs for the borders.

*Pick a different die for the sentiment.

(In other words, alter this card to suit your taste!)

Here is a supply list, just in case you like some or all of the elements and want to make your own version:

Hello

September 17, 2015

ECDHelloClusterwm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here. Today I created a card which you could use for just about any occasion, using the new Flower Cluster 2, Small Butterfly and the Quietfire Hello dies. For the Flower Cluster, I used the inlay die cut technique.

Here’s how I created my card:

ECDHelloCluster3

  1. Cut a piece of pink striped designer paper 5 inches x 3 3/4 inches. Die cut the Flower Cluster 2 in the lower left hand corner of the designer paper (white on the step by step photos above). Be careful not to lose the pieces of designer paper that would go between the flowers.

ECDHelloCluster4

  • Layer the designer paper onto a piece of black cardstock 5 1/4 inches x 4 inches.

ECDHelloCluster5

  • Attach a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to a scrap of black card large enough to fit the Flower Cluster 2 die. Die cut. Remove all the petals etc so you just have the flower outline and adhere into the negative space on the designer paper.

ECDHelloCluster6

  • Insert the pieces of designer paper that go in between each of the flowers which we saved when we die cut the flower cluster from the designer paper.

ECDHelloCluster7

  • Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to the back of a piece of bright pink and pale pink card stock large enough to fit the Flower Cluster 2 die. Die cut the Flower Cluster 2 from each piece of card being careful to keep petals and centres in place when removing from die. Inlay the petals onto the designer paper panel so that you have 3 bright pink flowers and 3 pale pink flowers (refer to finished card for positioning).
  • Add Gold / Silver Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers to the black circles that remain around the Flower Cluster image.

2.  Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to the back of a piece of black and bright pink card stock that is large enough to die cut the Quietfire “Hello”.

  • Adhere the black “Hello” to the top right hand corner of the card and then layer the bright pink Hello over the top of the black Hello so that you see a black shadow underneath.

3. Using the Small Butterfly die, die cut the following:

  • 1 Antenna from black card
  • 1 Butterfly wings overlay from white card that has been covered on the front with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive.
  • 1 Butterfly Wings Solid from Pale Pink Shimmer Sheetz.

Remove the Adhesive Tape from the front of the Butterfly Wings Overlay and attach the black antenna to the centre. Cover the remaining adhesive tape with Peony Pink Silk Microfine Glitter, remove excess and polish with your finger.

Adhere to the Shimmer Sheetz Butterfly solid image and attach to the lower right hand corner of the card using foam tape.

4. Adhere the designer paper panel to a folded white card that measures 5 1/2 inches x 4 1/4 inches using foam tape.

ECDHelloCluster2wm

5. The inside of the card:

  • Adhere the Flower Cluster 2 Outline which was left over after inlaying the flowers on the front of the card to the lower left hand corner of the card.
  • Using black ink stamp the sentiment to the card as per photo above.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Pop it Ups Karen Burniston Designer Challenge – Celebrate!

September 16, 2015

Hi, it’s Karen Burniston with the September Pop it Ups Designer Challenge. Each month I challenge my Designer Challenge team to use Pop it Ups dies for a specific theme. This month the theme is to interpret the word “Celebrate!” for any holiday, any theme. As a twist to the challenge I also asked them to incorporate frames and/or Frame Edges into their projects. We’re also excited to welcome Sandy Diller to the team officially. Sandy has been joining the challenges most months as a guest designer and I am thrilled to introduce her as the newest member of the Designer Challenge Team.

For my card and video I wanted to do a simple assembly video for two of my new Fall Release dies shipping at the end of October 2015 to independent craft stores worldwide. Why do we show the dies so early? In this case it was because we wanted the retailers last week at The Collins Rep Group Retailer Training Event to have the opportunity to try the dies and place orders. Retailers who did not attend the show can also get their orders in now, so mention it to your local store if you’re interested.

This is the newest Accordion die in the Pop it Ups line – the Gift Card Accordion. The Accordion page cuts slots to hold a standard size gift card perfectly. This die is going to be perfect for any occasion to give gift cards, but also for cards without gift cards, especially by incorporating the new Flourish Gift Frame companion die that includes rectangles to fit the album and cover the tuck slots. My card is a birthday card using colors pulled from the gift card I was using.

GCA_open

Here is the video tutorial for this project.

The video mentions a tip for flipping the first page over if you’d rather have the decorative score lines on the front of the album. As it turned out, I ended up cutting patterned paper frames for the front and the back instead.

GCAfront

The video shows how to use the small stitched rectangle that comes included with the Gift Card Accordion to make a long stitched rectangle to span the entire page. The video also shows a cute idea for shrinking the “a gift for you” die using shrink plastic to make it a charm. I used the new Elizabeth Craft Designs Soft Finish cardstock for the majority of the album and accented with patterned paper.

DESIGNER CHALLENGE TEAM

Time to see how the talented team interpreted this month’s “Celebrate + Frame Edges” challenge. For each project, there are more photos, supply lists, sometimes even a full step-by-step tutorial, on the designer’s blog. Click their name to go directly to that blog post. Don’t worry, all the links open in new windows so you won’t lose this original post by clicking the names. In fact, I encourage you to click the names as you scroll through, opening windows for the project blog posts you’d like to visit.

Tent Cards:

Back in July Frances Byrne posted a tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog for using Accordion Albums as a base for a tent card. That idea sparked many variations by the team and they’ve been making amazing tent cards ever since.

Frances Byrne starts things off with a tent card where she used a modification by Karen Aicken for leaving the center of the Oval Accordion attached, rather than removed with an item swinging in the middle. This adorable baby card features a glittered Snowball the Sheep and the Oval Dots Frame Edges. She also incorporated a Quietfire word die, Peel-off Stickers and the Els van de Burgt Studio “it’s a Girl” die.

FB_SheepBabyTent2wm

Donna Wright took the tent card idea and turned it on its side and added more pleats across the bottom to make this amazing diorama tent card using the new Flourish Gift Frame, Holiday House, Outdoor Edges and Evergreen Pivot card trees. This card got a lot of attention on Facebook this week – so gorgeous!

DW_ sept 2015 edges christmas

Shelly Hickox combined the original tent card tutorial with the extra pleats idea and made this spooky Halloween version, using the Oval Accordion and Oval Flourish Frame Edges. The patterned paper was fussy cut to create all the imagery – love it!

Gift Card Accordions:

The team received their dies just last week, so the projects they were able to churn out in such a short amount of time are amazing! Bookmark these ideas for when the dies are available.

Sandy Diller made this absolutely fabulous 3-page Gift Card Accordion using the companion Flourish Gift Frame and three Characters – Chilly, Rudy and Jolly. She also used Props 5 (Santa Hat), the lights from the Holiday House, and the present from the Evergreen Pivot Card.

SD_HoHoHo

Summer Hills-Painter also created a 3-page Gift Card Accordion, this one to celebrate a new home. She used a Home Depot gift card and decorated with the House Pivot Card’s house, All Seasons Tree, and the apples from the new Props 7 woven basket die set. What a lovely gift for a new homeowner!

SHP_Sept DC 2015 2 Open

Shelly Hickox keeps the 3-page Gift Card Accordion trend going with this lovely Christmas album. Notice that her album does not feature a gift card. By using the companion Flourish Gift Frame set, the rectangle dies can be used to cover the tuck slots and turn the die into a standard Accordion suitable for any theme.

SH_shelly hickox xmas accordion card

Fran Sabad created a 2-page Gift Card Accordion with Flourish Gift Frame and the Sleigh used flat on the first page. How lively are these Christmas colors? I love the use of navy and red together!

FS_PIU-GCH-Accodion-01

Kelly Booth used the Gift Card Accordion for a 2-page gift for a bride. She styled the new Lucky the Rabbit Character die as a bride and gave her a bouquet and a cute heart-shaped nose. I love the use of the Quietfire word die along the top of the album.

KB_Watermarked Photo (2015-09-11-1207)

Caz Counsell also made a 2-page Gift Card Accordion and also used Lucky the Rabbit but in completely different colors for a completely different look. Caz got clever with the new Props 7 woven basket die, turning it upside-down and decorating as a cake.

CC_bunny challenge 2

Accordions with Frame Edges:

Because the challenge included the use of Frames and Frame Edges, many of the team chose to make Accordion albums.

Summer Hills-Painter mixed all three styles of portrait albums for this fun black and white congratulations card. She used Brownie the Cow and the Farm Greetings Clear Stamps, plus the Flourish Frame Edges for both the Katie and the Oval.

SHP_September challenge 2015

Karen Aicken celebrates Family with this stunning 6-page Circle Accordion featuring the Square w/Circle Frame Edges (check out the rivets using glitter dots!) and her hand drawn lettering to spell out Family. Gorgeous!

KA_Card_PIU_Accord_Family_1

Helen Cryer has twin nieces who just turned 2. She made them each a very special accordion birthday card. First up is Hattie’s card, featuring the Katie Label Accordion and Katie Stars Frame Edges. She used the new Lucky the Rabbit, Whiskers the Cat and Hoppy the Frog, plus Props 2 and the Happy Birthday die. Hattie’s name is the Elizabeth Craft Designs Alphabet Caps die. What fun colors for a little girl’s card!

HC_DSC_0549

Helen Cryer made Viv’s card very different from Hattie’s but equally gorgeous. She used the Circle Accordion with the flourish Frame Edge and the candles from the Gift Card Accordion and Celebrate from the Flourish Gift Frame. So soft and pretty!

HC_DSC_0517 (3)

Kelly Booth made this aloha birthday card using the Oval Accordion, Oval Clouds Frame Edges, Props 2 and the Happy Birthday die. What a cool idea to use the Props 2 birthday hat on a stamped image!

KB_Watermarked Photo 1 (2015-09-14-0632)

Raquel Mason took advantage of the baby-themed peel-off stickers designed by Joset van de Burgt to fit the Star and Circle Accordions. Raquel’s mixed accordion features Frame Edges and glittered/colored peel-offs. She made it for a co-worker.

RM_KBDC Sept Celebrate Baby 5

Frances Byrne made an open center accordion using the Katie Label Accordion plus Katie Stars Frame Edges. Poppy the Owl, wearing Props 2 hat, perches on either end of the album, checking out the glittered peel-off presents inside. I just love this color scheme!

FB_OwlOpenCentreAccordwm

Fran Sabad made a shaker page out of the Rectangle Accordion and used dark Katie Stars Frame Edges to keep with the spooky look. Her coloring on the little vampire stamp is amazing!

FS_Haunt-Ya-Later-05-open

Raquel Mason made a very special card for her son’s 9th birthday. She used the Fancy Label Accordion with the Star Fancy Frame Edges and Buster the Dog and Whiskers the Cat. I love the idea of using just the head of the cat on the center page to leave room for the greeting.

RM_KBDC Sept Celebrate Buster-Whiskers 2

Karen Aicken combined the Ring Accordion with Ring Frame Edges 1, Jolly the Mouse and the Merry & Bright Clear Stamps for this fun 3-page Christmas album. Such an excellent color combination on this card!

KA_Card_PIU_Accord_RingJolly_3

Caz Counsell also used Jolly the Mouse on her accordion – this one using the Circle Accordion and dots Frame Edges. Check out her little swiss cheese banner! Squee! So cute!

Everything Else:

Here are some unique projects using Frame Edges without their companion Accordion albums.

Karen Aicken shows brilliantly how well Frame Edges work as flat frames. She combined the solid and dots Square w/Circle Frame Edges to make a dynamic front to a peek-a-boo card.

KA_Card_PIU_HBDFrameEdges_1

Donna Wright made a fun easel card using a Stand up Helper die and the pieces of the Ring Accordion plus Ring Frame Edges 1. She embellished her easel card with Whiskers the Cat and the Happy Birthday dies. Notice Donna’s signature mini clothespin. Love that little touch she always puts on her cards.

DW_sept 2015 edges pink cat copy

Sandy Diller used the new Christmas Trees Pop Stand die to make this lovely card and use the Ring Frame Edges 1 as her tree skirt. She also used the Square w/Circle Frame Edges on the front of the card. Just gorgeous!

SD_tree inside 3

Kelly Booth used the Ring Frame Edges 1 on this Spiral Circle Pull Card to frame her greeting. What a simple touch but so effective. I like her floating balloons on the spiral.

KB_Watermarked Photo 1 (2015-09-13-0934)

Sandy Diller finishes the challenge with a stunning explosion box with suspended Oval Flourish Frame Edges plus floating Christmas Trees inside. WOW! She also posted a full tutorial for how she created it, so definitely click over to her blog to see it.

SD_tree2

Well I hope you feel inspired to make someone a special card to celebrate. We’ll be back next month on October 14, 2015 with the next Designer Challenge called Characters in Costume. This is not limited to Halloween cards (although those are acceptable). The Designers will be using any of the 17 Characters and dressing them/converting them into a new look.

Happy Crafting!

Halloween Spooky Scene Pop-up Bench Card

September 14, 2015

Card Inside FullCreated by Mary Dimercurio Prasad for the Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

Greetings! Mary here, and Halloween is coming! Time for spooky scenes… and Susan’s new CountryScapes are perfect for setting the stage (or creating the card). I combined this with Karen Burniston’s Garden Bench decorated as an old weather-beaten seat under the eerie moon and creepy tree. What else could be lurking nearby?? Bwahaha…

Making the Card

1. Cut two pieces black cardstock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches (basically, one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet cut in half). Fold each in half then die cut one with Garden Bench main die as directed on packaging.

Close Up Bench

2. Protect card around bench with Post-it or other removable tape. Paint “wood” areas with a fairly thick coat of Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. Add a very little on the iron works area to give it an aged look (I used my finger). The paint may pick up some black color from the paper but since the bench is in shadow, it works. Once completely dry, sponge over with Black Soot Distress Ink. Optional: wipe surface with slightly damp paper towel to remove a little surface ink while leaving ink in cracks.

3. Adhere other piece of folded black cardstock to back, lining up edges. When applying adhesive, be sure to avoid bench area. Add adhesive to one side, line up with fold on non-sticky side (easier to slide around this way), stick adhesive sides together, then adhere other side. Trim if necessary.

4. Die cut a circle (Ring Accordion) from orange decorative paper or orange cardstock. Use PanPastels to color Moon shadows and highlights. Adhere at top right corner inside card (see photo). Trim from back, flush with card. Die cut a scrap of cardstock with Clouds die to use as a template. Chalk under with light yellow or white PanPastel all across the sky, including over moon in a couple spots. Slightly smudge.

Side View

5. From black cardstock, cut pumpkins, cat, raven, bats (2 sets), tree, branches, and grass (see Supplies for links). Glue one set of bats over moon as shown. Add eyes to cat with white gel pen; add yellow or green ink on top (e.g. Twisted Citron Distress Ink) for color. Chalk highlights where moonlight would touch each (light yellow or white PanPastel); I did this with a stump and blended lightly with my finger. I left the grass alone. Trace pumpkins on yellow/orange cardstock. Cut inside the lines. Glue behind pumpkins. Chalk a little orange (around facial features) on pumpkins. Chalk highlights on raven as shown. Optional: add a small eye with black Enamel Accents and a dot of highlight with white gel pen. Add branches to tree in a slightly misshapen way (it’s a spooky tree!); chalk edges towards moon side (you may need to trim some branches to fit inside the card). For added dimension, rub behind elements with large ball stylus.

6. Adhere all elements where shown – using dimensional tape behind pumpkins and raven.

7. Die cut 2nd largest decorator tag from cream decorative paper or cream cardstock. Sponge Rusty Hinge Distress Ink through Shatter stencil in top right corner of tag for a subtle spider web background. Randomly edge/sponge with Black Soot and Rusty Hinge for an aged look. Stamp Happy Halloween and spider in black ink as shown. Optional: add black Enamel Accents to body of spider. Glue bats as pictured. Cut orange paper 1 7/8 inches wide (the width is 6″ from paper pad). Cut spiderweb paper 1 5/8 inches wide. Adhere spiderweb paper centered in orange. Cut to width of card. Wrap Halloween twine around three times, securing in back. Adhere with dimensional tape to bottom of card. Tie a bow with twine. Add tag (with dimensional tape) and bow as shown.

Ribbons & Jewels

September 13, 2015

IMG_4615

Hello Everyone,

It’s Jackeline here. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. For today’s project I combined one of my favorite Jackie’s Dolls Peel-Offs with the new Ribbons & Jewels dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio Collection.

Let’s get started:

1.- Cut a piece of 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ from aqua cardstock. Score at 4 1/4″ and fold in half to create your card base.

2.- Die cut the Ribbons & Jewels strips from light green, dark green and purple cardstock. Tip: Apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back of the cardstock before die cutting. Adhere die cuts to card front, alternating colors and designs as shown.

3.- Die cut one Accordion Oval panel from watercolor paper. Remove the border, leaving the oval piece. Adhere oval to card front.

4.- Apply Transparent Double Sided Tape to white cardstock. Transfer the outline of the Jackie’s Doll in Oval Peel-Off to the adhesive side, and using the glitter coloring technique, add Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to peel-off and color with alcohol-based markers. Watch Els demonstrate this technique HERE. Cut around peel-off and adhere to card front on top of white oval.

5.- Decorate the Ribbons & Jewels strips with some Gold/Silver Glitter Dots. Adhere Congratulations Peel-offs around the Jackie’s Dolls in Oval Peel-off six times, spacing the word so it fits three times on each side as shown. *Tip: This Peel-off is very easy to manipulate so that it curves just the way you want it to!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Have a wonderful day!

Pop it Ups

A Fun Card using Cheepers and Fall Pop it Ups Collection dies

September 12, 2015

Hi,

I’m Kelly Booth and today I have a fun Happy Birthday card using Cheepers the Chicken and the Happy Birthday Pop It Ups die by Karen Burniston. I also wanted to give you a little peek of a die set just released this weekend at the Collins Group Show!

Here is my Card Front:

It’s so fun to dress Cheepers up like a cowboy!

Here is the inside of the card:

This fun card is suitable for either a male or female.

Instructions:

  1.  Cut two pieces of cardstock; one red and one kraft at 5″x11 and score in the center at 5″1/2″. Place the Happy Birthday Pop Up Die in the center of the kraft piece and run through your die cutting machine.  Gently press the folds to form the pop up by following the package instructions.  Place pieces of Elizabeth Craft Designs Double Sided Adhesive on the back side of the kraft piece making sure you stay away from the areas that pop up.  Remove backing from the pieces and adhere inside the red backing card one side at a time.  Trim edges down if needed.
  2. Use either patterned paper or stamp a pattern on a piece of ECD  Smooth Finish cardstock 4.25″ x 5″ and cut the Boots, Scarf, and Happy Birthday Wording. (set aside) Cut the Shadow for Cheepers from a scrap of black cardstock.  Cut one banner and one stitched label from the Lorna Label set.  Cut one speech bubble from the Rectangle Accordion set all from Smooth Finish White Cardstock. (set aside)
  3. Place Double Sided Adhesive on a piece of red card stock 4 1/2″ x 5″ Cut the Happy Birthday Pop up making sure you get the shadowed area and the bottom strip under the step. Cut out the Happy Birthday shadow area and the bottom step strip. (set aside)
  4. Place a Piece of ECD Double Sided Adhesive onto a piece of the Smooth Finish Cardstock and Cut Cheepers’ body and the eyes. Using a scrap of red backed with Double Sided Adhesive, cut the waddle and the tail feathers, using a scrap of orange backed with ECD Double Sided Adhesive cut the Beak. (set aside)
  5. Take a  scrap piece of card stock and put ECD DSA onto it.  Remove the backing and burnish in some Solar Gold Silk Microfine Glitter, polish well and shake off the excess.  With this piece cut one Sheriff’s Badge (Props 6 coming soon) and small stars from the Happy Birthday Pop it Ups set. Set aside.
  6. For the last cut take a strip of Kraft card stock 5″ x 2 1/2″ place ECD Double Sided adhesive on the back and cut the ground for the front using the Outdoor edges wavy ground die. Place this on the bottom of the front of the card.
  7. Assemble Cheepers by adhering the detail layer to the shadow layer. Place the eyes in the eye holes then remove the backing and add the red waddle and the tail feathers. Next add the orange beak and the scarf. Using a pop dot or foam tape place Cheepers’ hat onto his head tilting it slightly. Use foam tape on the back of Cheepers and place him on the front of the card leaving room to add his boots under his body. Use foam tape with the boots.
  8. To finish the front stamp or computer generate a sentiment for the speech bubble and place to the right of his head onto the card. Add red glitter dots to the hat as a band and one on the scarf and one on each boot. Make a little lasso out of twine and with a little bit of liquid adhesive add it to Cheepers’ right shoulder. Place the Sheriff’s gold badge onto the center of the scarf and add a red glitter dot in the center.
  9. Finishing the inside of the card is pretty easy.  Remove the backing from the red shadowed Happy Birthday and place over the kraft card, do the same with the red strip below the step. Place little bits of liquid adhesive on the backside of the patterned Happy Birthday and place on to the shadowed area. Add a drop of liquid adhesive on each gold star and place over the shadowed stars. Stamp or computer generate a sentiment on the banner and add it to the red strip just below Happy Birthday. Add the stitched label towards the bottom of the card for a greeting.

A Way With Words

Thankful Hedgehog Daisy

September 11, 2015

Hello friends,

It’s me, Petroschi Bianca. Today I am very enthusiastic to introduce you to Hedgehog Daisy. She is one of my favorite designs from my collection of clear stamps launching now here at Elizabeth Craft Designs. It would not have been possible without the support of Els van de Burgt and her wonderful team. Together, we have worked hard to bring these stamps to life.

I hope you will discover and enjoy the whole Petroschi Designs by Bianca Collection. It consists of cling-mounted deep etched red rubber stamps with realistic birds and ladybugs and more, as well as some terrific clear stamp sets – the whimsical and irresistible Hedgehog Daisy & Friends Collection.
Let’s get started. Here is the first autumn card to make together:

Petroschi Bianca (7)

1. For the base card I used a piece of cardstock of 200 lb, a dark shade magenta measuring 6 1/2″ x 8 3/4″. Meanwhile, I had another piece of white cardstock (6″ x 8 1/4″) with Elizabeth Craft Designs Double sided adhesive on the back which I  colored with shades of autumn using inks and water colors, and obtaining watercolor effects. After drying the cardstock, I die cut it using SUSAN’S GARDEN – Woodland Leaves die set. I then adhered the cardstock with leaves die cut on the front of my card to create a beautiful background. I used the die cut leaves for another project.

2. I cut two frames using Fitted Frames 3 Curvy Rectangles, one from white cardstock and one from magenta glossy cardboard. I cut a piece of white cardstock where I stamped Daisy playing with leaves in the middle and adhered the frames with the stamped cardstock behind it on the lower right corner of the card.

3. I completed the composition using the mignon stamps from the set: watering can, leaves, mushrooms and birds in the horizon. They are very entertaining. The fun part began when I started to color. I used the Distress markers.

4. In the die cut leaves on the top of the card I put a shadow accent of shaped leaves and aded some veins.

Petroschi Bianca (6)
5. I die cut the word “Thanks” using Quietfire “Thanks” die out of white cardstock with double sided adhesive on back. I colored the top part of the word with Distress marker color “Mustard Seed”. I removed the release sheet on the back and adhered the word on the top of the card front.

I hope you have a fall as cheerful as Daisy and you may want to find out more stories with her. She thanks you all!!!
