Welcome to the ECD blog. This is Anita here. I have to think long and hard when it comes to making masculine cards and most of the time I struggle to decide which elements create a proper one. Elizabeth Craft Designs has some beautiful die sets that can be transformed with simple colouring to make cards for the men in our lives.
I have a very elegant masculine card today. I used several layers to build my card and chose the new Distress Oxide inks to colour the feathers.
To make this card, make all the layers for the card as shown below.
Step 1 – For the main card front, die cut a striped paper rectangle using the Fitted Rectangles die set. Layer it onto grey cardstock leaving a narrow border on all sides. Then adhere this layer to black cardstock, this time leaving a 1/4 inch border all around.
Step 2 – Die cut black cardstock with the Rose Pocket die, then cut a circle piece from the open portion of the pocket as shown in the photo above. Line with a gray cardstock circle cut with a Stitched Circle die. Then die cut a gray cardstock frame using two Stitched Circles, one inside the other, and adhere this to the front to frame the roses.
Step 3 – Die cut a Stitched Fishtail Banner from black cardstock. Die cut a second, smaller, Stitched Fishtail Banner from patterned paper and adhere to the black layer.
Step 4 – Die cut three white cardstock feathers. Colour with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide inks. Colour the edges with black ink. Add white dots using white gesso or a white paint pen. Note: To create the look of real feathers, blend the colors from dark to light and cluster the randomly-sized dots along both sides of the spine of the feather as shown.
Step 5 – Die cut a small white cardstock rectangle using the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set. Use black ink to stamp a sentiment from the Dream Sentiments clear stamp set.
Step 6 – Arrange and adhere the layers on the card front. Add a jute bow where the feathers overlap and a trio of enamel dots to the sentiment panel.
Step 7 – Cut a white cardstock rectangle measuring 10.5″ x 6″. Score at 5.25″ and fold in half for the 5.25″ x 6″ side-fold card base. Adhere the finished card front to the card base.
TIP: Though I designed this card for the men, women enjoy rich, deep colors, too! It is a versatile layout that can be used with whatever color combination you prefer, and for many occasions. Just change the sentiment.
I hope you like this card and will want to make your own version! Do stop by the ECD store for many more dies and stamps.
See you soon!
