Framed Snowman

December 7, 2017

‘Tis the Season to build a Snowman!  Hi, its Selma Stevenson today.   It is always fun to build a snowman and dress him up. You can stay warm and build cute snowmen to create birthday or holiday cards using the Stylish Snowman die set.

I have used the Stylish Snowman die set to create so many different cards for Christmas this year.  Today I have created a partial snowman in a frame.

  1. Cut Whisper Blue Soft Finish Cardstock to x” x 12″, score at 6″, fold in half to create a 6″ square card base (top- or side-fold as you prefer). Add a 5.75″ square of white cardstock to the front, topped with a 5.5″ square of ModaScrap Let It Snow ‘ho ho ho’ designer cardstock.

2.  Use the third largest die in the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set to cut one white rectangle.  Use the fourth largest die in the Stitched Rectangles die set to cut one white rectangle.  Before removing from the die, use Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink to sponge on blue ink; spritz lightly with water.  Tip: Leaving the cardstock inside the die will leave a white border around the rectangle.  Use a white opaque marker to hand draw white snowflakes over the inked background to coordinate with the design in the cardstock.  Layer the two rectangles with dimensional tape between them. Adhere toward the lower right corner of the card front.

3.  Use the Stylish Snowman die set to cut the head and middle section of the snowman as well as the hat, face pieces, and scarf.  Optional: For a glittery snowman, die cut the pieces using Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the front of the cardstock prior to cutting. Then use Silk Microfine Glitter in the following colors: Hat – Basic Black, Face and body – Cool Diamond, Nose – Orange, Scarf – Spring Peridot, Hatband – True Red. Use a white opaque pen to create polka dots on the scarf.

4.  Assemble the snowman and cut off a portion of the body so he’ll fit into the frame. Adhere with dimensional tape.

5.  Use the Els van de Burgt  Studio Candle die set to cut several pine sprigs from green card stock.  Arrange and adhere the sprigs on the lower left and upper right corners of the framed snowman.  Add berries using Nuvo Crystal Drops. Cluster large berries at the corners and small berries along the sprigs. Refer to the photo.

6.  Use the Holiday Garland die set to cut one snowflake garland from white cardstock topped with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to cutting. Sprinkle with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, brush off excess and return it to the jar. Polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle.

7.  Use Susan’s Garden Notes Poinsettia die set to cut pieces for one flower with leaves from white cardstock. Shape and assemble the flower, glue green and yellow Prills to the center.  Color the leaves with PanPastels, shape them using Susan’s Flower Tool Kit.  For instructions on how to shape and assemble the poinsettia view Susan’s Garden Notes Poinsettia Video at this LINK.

8.  Use the Garden Notes Whitepine Bough & Pinecone die set to cut several pine boughs from green cardstock.

 9.  Arrange and adhere the pine boughs toward the upper left corner of the card front.  Adhere the poinsettia on top.  Add red berries.  Cut the glittered Snowflake Garland into two pieces, a long piece and a short piece. Adhere the long piece across the top, just above the frame, and the short piece at the left below the poinsettia.

10.  Use black ink to stamp ‘let it show’ onto white cardstock. Cut a curvy shape around the stamped sentiment using scissors or a craft knife.Use the Winter Sentiments Clear Stamp set to stamp the sentiment on white card stock using black ink.  Cut around the sentiment using scissors.  Optional: Pat the shape onto a VersaMark ink pad and clear emboss to add some shine. sentiment onto a VersaMark Pad and clear emboss.  Adhere at an angle toward the lower left corner of the card front.

How would you like to dress up your snowman? Change the color of the scarf and hat as you choose!

Selma! You never fail to disappoint. While I always felt that little snowman was…a bit scary looking, you make him look so CUTE, I may just have to buy the die. At any rate, thanks for the great idea – how do you do it!?!
