It’s Karen Aicken here today, with a quick and easy Birthday card. I make a LOT of Birthday cards, since I donate so many of them to Seniors Secret Service. I love the Pop it Ups dies, as they allow me to make multiple cards with pretty papers and the WOW feature comes from the pop up inside.
I was drawn to the bright happy colours in this paper stack (by DCWV) especially since so many of the papers had sparkly accents. I trimmed some paper strips from coordinating papers in the stack to add to the bottom front edge of this card, which is a 4.5 x 6″ size. The flags/banners and journal card on the front were trimmed from another paper in the stack.
There are a couple of key features to the Pop it Ups dies – one is that you can place your pop-up anywhere you want along the fold. Another is that YOU get to chose what card size you want to use. I trimmed the inside card slightly smaller than the outer card, which makes it really easy to line up when you attach the two together. I centered the LUCY LABEL POP UP on the fold and ran it through my Big Shot. All the cutting and score lines cut with the die, so creating the pop-up is really easy. You can check out Karen Burniston’s video HERE to see how she does the folding, as I know lots of you like a visual tutorial.
The cute birthday cake embellishment on this card is from a card I received for my own birthday last year. I fussy cut it out to recycle on a future birthday card and the colours worked well with these sparkly papers. Since then I have bought this CUPCAKE die, which works perfectly for a card like this, and is one of my new favourite dies. That one has the cherry on the top, but this CUPCAKE die (with candle and bow) would work just as well and of course is on my wish list.
I added some strips of patterned paper to the inside panel, and stamped on the white flag/banner. I cut a rectangle from a paper scrap and tied it with Bakers Twine for a cute present. I added it to the optional pop-up bump that cuts with the LUCY LABEL POP Up. After I made this card, I acquired the BOW DIE, and now I’ll be making lots of little present embellishments with a bow on the top! I’m thinking those would be perfect to add to tags for the holidays too – just by switching out the papers.
Another sparkly paper strip was added across the bottom edge, and I stamped on the swirly label that was printed right on the patterned paper.
Sometimes we all need a quick and easy card but with Pop it Ups, only you will know that you didn’t spend hours on it!
Thanks for stopping by today!
