Create Handmade Journals using File Folder Dies – 3 Ways

December 12, 2022
Hello, Annette Green back again with some fun handmade journals made from the General File Folder 1 and 2 die sets today. I’ve created a video below as I share how to make these 3 different ways, from easy to intermediate to more advanced in assembly.
The easiest style is the three-hole pamphlet stitch assembly. These little journals came together in a jiffy and would make great little gifts for the holidays or any occasion. In the video, I share some tips on prepping your pages and assembly in two different versions of this simple journal.
One is quite basic and the other is lined on the inside covers, stamped on the pages, and has a ribbon closure. For both I used the General File Folder 1 die set, and papers from 49 and Market and The Book 5 (coming soon!)
The intermediate journals are custom sized traveler’s notebooks which I show you how to make yourself in the video. For both journals I used Kraft Tex, but you can use leather, faux leather, or any flexible yet sturdy material as your base. The word plates on the covers of these are from Sidekick Essentials 1 (“Noted) and #14 Bookmark 1 (“moments”), and the label frames are from General File Folders 1.
The insides of each are similar in construction, but the black one simply contains pages and no file folder dividers. The tan one has three signatures with the file folder dies (both 1 and 2) along with plain pages inside for writing and notes. In the video you can see more details.
The more advanced book is a hard cover, stitched binding journal made with medium weight chipboard, papers from The Book 5 and 49 and Market and dies from both file folder sets as well.
There are six signatures in this book, each sewn into the inner spine binding. In the video, I take you through all the steps to this process.
This stitched binding is not difficult once you get the hang of it, and it’s certainly the most sturdy and book-like journal of all three styles.
I plan to use this hard cover book as my 2023 grateful journal, so watch for more on that in future posts. Thanks for joining me today, and I hope you take time to watch the video and try making your own journals. Enjoy!

Hello Fall

September 23, 2022

It is almost Fall over here in the Netherlands so time to play with this season. This time I made a page in my TN. I used the Holiday Special Kit and some dies from Joset.

First I made the page with the house dies and the Fabrick paper. I realy love the brick at the back. The roof is made with Kraft Cardstock paper from Tim Holtz. This is beautiful paper which you can scrub.

Then it is time to decorate the house with some fall stuff. At the left page I adhere a three with leaves and pumpkin’s. All these parts are coloured with Distress Oxide Ink.

At the right page I used stamp/dies from the girl and lantern from the Holiday Special Kit. You can colour this with anything you want, I thought the watercolour pallete from ECD is perfect for this.

At least I made a big pumpkin and some smaller with some leaves. And in the right corner I adhere a sentiment. I like to adhere everything in different depths. The leaves are between the pumpkins, behind the pumpkins and in front of the pumpkins.

I think this is everything about this page. I hope you liked this post and got some ideas.

Thankyou for visiting and see you soon!

Kind regards Lisanne Geerdink

Cow’s it going?

May 9, 2022

Hello everyone! Today it’s my turn to show you a nice creation. This time I started working with a TN page.

First I die cut the puzzle page (1848). For this I used paper from the Rainbow of Happiness paper pas (C006). Love this paper pad because of the bright colors! On the left die cut the spot that comes with the puzzle page. I used this as a cow stain. Behind this I made a black square, only adhered at the edges so I could add the cow in between.

In the square on the right side I made a shaker window. I did this by making mica behind the square window. You fold this in half again. You can use anything as shaking material. I used some Picket Fence here and combines it with micro beads.

After that I started with the cow and the pig. I colored both of these with distress inks. With the cow you don’t have to add his feet, tale and all his marks as it won’t show.

Now it’s time to finish the pages. The cow can go in the spot on the left and the pig on the other page. Behind the pig I added another background. I used the earth background die (1895) for this.

At the end I stamped a sentiment on both pages to complete it.

Hopefully you like this page as much as I do! See you next time!

Farm Fresh

August 19, 2021

Hii everyone! Here I am again, Lisanne. I’m ready to show a new page in my square TN. It’s still a bit new for me to work so small, but I really like it. The best part is that you can process all kinds of collections in it. So that is what I want to show you today.

For this page I used the paper Rainbow of Happiness from Ilse and Charlene. Such a beautiful, colourful paper. The Poloraid Page is perfect to use as base. But I want to give it something special. So I made some dots in the paper with the Honeycomb Dots. Isn’t it a beautiful dies?

I also added some light texture paste with a mask stencil. When this paste is still wet, I added some Silk Microfine Glitter Silverado. When it dries the glitter stick to it. This colour glitter combines perfectly with this paper.

Maybe some of you know my style of working and combine different collections. That’s how I did it this time. I used the super cute Donkey from the Farm Collection. All coloured with Distress Ink, but you can do that in you own style.

The crate is a part of the Farm Accessories. This crate is filled with food for the Donkey. At the right page you can see all these plants growing. When the plants are ripe they are ready to harvested.

So at the right page you see all the plants from the Home Jungle. They are growing in a beautiful place. All the plants are coloured with Distress Oxide. I tried to let go of control, so that means some parts are darker, some lighter haha. Just taking step by step. But at the end I really like it.

So at least I added a beautiful hanger which say ‘home jungle’. At the back of this hanger you can see a small part of jute, great combination. At the left page I added a little banner with Farm Fresh.

I think I’ve told you everything about these pages, hopefully you like it.

Thankyou so much for reading and have a great day!

Kind regards Lisanne

Splish Splash

June 23, 2021

Hii all! It’s Lisanne here. It is time for a new blogpost from me. So the weather here in the Netherlands getting better and better. The Under the Sea Collection is perfect to use at this time of the year. I really like this Collection in combination with the square TN.

For this pages I used the Poloroid page and the beautiful Rainbow of Happiness paper. I used the paper with the blues and green colours. So let’s start with the Octopus page, doesn’t he look cute?

The Puzzle Page is a dies set with a lot of dies. I used the biggest frame and the splash. I used a thin denim sheet, that looks perfect with the Rainbow of Happiness paper. I used the frame without the splash with the Octopus.

The octopus is coloured with Distress Ink, some high lights with the a gell pen and glossy accents at his eyes. The eyes look rounder. But be carefully with these accents, they have to dry a little time.

I adhere some coral from the Summer Journal Kit in different colours to the page. Love all these colour explosion. The little fish at the right is also from the Summer Journal kit. At least I make a life buoy, which is a dies from the Whale, and stamped the text Splish Splash.

The second page is with the sea Turtle. He is so adorable. I told you that I made a splash from a denim sheet. The part who felt out is glued at the Turtle page. But only half of the splash, the other half is at the back. I also glued some waves from the Summer Journal kit at this page. I didn’t know if you see this that good, but for now it looks good haha.

I build up the Sea Turtle with ofcourse Distress Ink. Only the Turtle wasn’t enough for me. So at this page I made coral to but now with different colours. In combination with the other page, it looks beautiful!

I also made some accessories from the diving accessories. But I think they are laying a very long time at the bottom of the sea. They turning a little bit green haha.

I think I’ve told you everything about these two TN pages. I’ve had a lot of fun making these pages with all these beautiful colours.

Thankyou so much for reading! And hopefully I see you soon!

Kind regards Lisanne Geerdink

An Elegant Journal and video tutorial

May 5, 2021
Hello again everyone, it’s Annette Green here today with a little different twist on the new square TN art journal. I’ve created an elegant book using paints, stencils, stamps and of course new dies from the Picture It art journal collection and I’ve provided a video tutorial taking you through all the steps below.
In the video, I share how I painted the cover of the new Chic Black TN, added ribbon and lace, buttons and wax seals, and so much more embellishment throughout this sweet little TN.
You’ll learn all kinds of little tips for using the new dies, how I choose my papers and plan out the process of building the album, and even some product suggestions you’ve been asking me for, such as what I use to store my dies.
I show how to add vellum to the pocket pages, different ways to use the decorative insert die, tips for adding silver metallic cardstock pieces, and so much more. I hope you can join me as I share the whole process in the video below. You’re sure to want to add the new square TN to your planner/art journal series!
