Hello, everybody! It’s Els here today with a project that I hope you’ll enjoy: Durable Flowers. It all started with the leftover die cut flowers I brought home from my CHA Make N’ Take cards. I thought it would be fun to decorate my lanyard for a show we’re attending in Frankfurt (the badge holder that I’ll be wearing), but I knew that paper flowers probably wouldn’t hold up all that well so I did some brainstorming. Before I knew it, I had a table filled with amazing flowers and so many ideas that I couldn’t go to sleep.
Here is what I came up with:
Good Morning. This is Selma Stevenson today with a picture frame I decorated with the five new Susan’s Garden Club Garden Notes (low-relief) flowers; Cosmos, Daffodil, Queen Anne’s Lace, Southern Magnolia and Zinnia. I also used Susan’s new Garden Notes Square Grapevine Wreath, and one of her new Seeds of Thoughts Rubber Stamps. A couple of other new dies include the new Stitched Squares and Fitted Squares from the Els van de Burgt Studio collection.
Below are pictures of the five new flower die sets Susan has added to her Susan’s Garden Club collection. There will be videos very soon on YouTube showing how to create each one.
Hello, Everyone – It’s Judi Kauffman, back as today’s guest designer with some projects that I hope you’ll find interesting and fun to make: Shimmer Sheetz CONFETTI Cards & Earrings!
Just like the calendars I’ve posted for the December Designers’ Challenge and here on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog on December 3, these projects incorporate the leftover bits that fall out of the Ribbons 1 dies (the negative shapes that are all too often tossed into the trash). As you can see from the cards, shown in the photo above, I also used the ribbon strips. For the earrings, shown in photos below, I used only the small pieces, pieces I have used before as ‘faux staples’ and have now given a second name: CONFETTI!
CARDS:
Because no two people will have the same collection of papers and embellishments, use my cards as a source of inspiration to jump start your own creations. Instead of a step-by-step, here’s the basic design strategy:
Decide what size card you want to make and create a collage sized to fit the front. Use die cut Shimmer Sheetz shapes (circles, squares, ovals, rectangles), ribbon strips, and the ‘CONFETTI’ (all die cuts backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape before cutting) mixed with randomly torn and cut pieces of paper in a color scheme and theme of your choosing.
Embellish with charms, coins, buttons, feathers or other low-relief elements. Glue the collage to the front of a contrasting card base. I chose to mix in lightly sanded Red Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz circles cut with the smallest dotted edge circle in the Stitched Circles die set, one of the Corners 1 dies cut rom Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz altered with black StazOn. I picked the circle because it repeats the shape of the Asian coins. A side note: Shimmer Sheetz is difficult to photograph, but the Red Iridescent color is an almost exact match for the red in the calligraphy-filled Asian paper.
The close-ups below give you a sense of how I incorporated the CONFETTI.
EARRINGS:
Shimmer Sheetz jewelry is impressive, very easy to make, super lightweight. It’s a great gift and so much fun to wear. (I sometimes tuck extra pairs of earrings into my purse so I can surprise people who compliment what I’m wearing!)
All 3 pairs of earrings are die cut from a double layer of Shimmer Sheetz, Elizabeth Craft Designs thin Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape between the layers. The top layer was randomly dappled with alcohol inks before cutting, creating a textured-looking base that contrasts well with the CONFETTI.
Tip: If you don’t wear big, bold earrings, instead of Fitted or Stitched Circles or Squares use Els van de Burgt Studio Jewelry die sets to make more petite versions.
In addition to post-style earrings like the two pairs shown at the start of this blog post, you can also create dangling earrings like the ones in the photo below. Punch a 1/16” hole a scant 1/8” from the top of the shape for the earring wire.
Here’s a close-up of the back of the post-style earrings:
You will find complete instructions for making post-back and dangling earrings as well as necklaces and a bracelet at the links below. More ideas, more ways to have fun with Shimmer Sheetz!

Hi, it’s Sanna here! I am very excited to be joining the Elizabeth Craft Designs design team! This is my first project as a team member.
I was pleased to see the German “Danke” in the A Way With Words die collection. It immediately inspired me to create a set of thank you cards. You never know when you will need one! I always keep a box of handmade cards at home so I am prepared for any occasion. I started with the first card and always tried to use both the positive and the negative images from die cutting, so in a way the first card led to the second one and so on.
Here is how I created the cards:
1. Back a 4.0×5.5 inch piece of Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive.
2. Run through a die cutting machine three times and align the word each time to match the position of the previous die cut image within the rectangle. Leave more open space between the the second and the third images. Keep the small pieces (negative shapes) that come out of the words.
3. Use the negative piece of the die cut cardstock sheet to space the words for the next cards. Now ink a second piece of Soft Finish Cardstock with orange, pink and green water-soluble ink. Then add water droplets onto the inked surface to create an interesting background.
4. Adhere the inked piece onto a card base. Then layer the negative die cut sheet over the inked sheet. Now use the negative pieces from the die cut words you have been saving to fill in the missing pieces to create readable words. Since they are backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive it will be easy to adhere them into their places.
5. Now decorate the card with twine and rhinestones.
For the second card use the positive “Danke” pieces.
6. Ink with pink and orange ink to create an ombre (blended color) effect on the words.
7. Next ink both the left and the right side of the card base with orange ink and adhere a strip of Soft Finish Cardstock (3 inch wide) down the middle of the card base.
8. Then adhere the inked words onto the white cardstock strip. Now cut two pieces of Soft Finish Cardstock into a 3×4 inch size, adhere them on matching sized pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive and then run them through a die cutting machine using two of the Bunch of Flowers 4 dies. Cut each die twice on one of the two pieces, using the whole paper piece. Save the negative images for later.
9. Ink the flowers with orange and pink inks, layer them over each other and adhere to the card base. Decorate with rhinestones and black ink splatters. For the third and fourth card use the negative flower pieces as a starting point.
10. Apply Fire Opal Silk Microfine Glitter over the “empty” flower die cut areas.
11. Brush the excess glitter off with a paintbrush and polish the glittered areas with your fingertip to make the glitter really sparkle.
12. Use the Stitched Rectangles die (3rd largest size in the set) to cut a piece of green cardstock into size. Next use the Fitted Frames 3 Curvy Rectangles die and run the same green cardstock through a die cutting machine.
13. Adhere the glittered flower pieces and the frames overlappingly over each other. Die cut the word Danke three more times and ink them with black ink. Adhere in the center of the flowers. Decorate with rhinestones. (Option: Die cut black cardstock instead of inking.)Save the third black “Danke” for the last card.
14. Start by cutting a piece of Soft Finish Cardstock to 4×5.5 inch. Next use the Stitched Circles die (the 4th biggest one in size in the set). Use masking tape or washi tape to temporarily adhere the circle die onto the cardstock piece, then place two thirds of the die inside the cutting boards of the die cutting machine. Run through the machine. When you lift the die up, only 2/3 of the image is cut. This way you can create a half circle window for a card.
15. Then use a metal ruler and a craft knife to cut the window open. Save the leftover half circle piece for later. Add spray ink to color the window piece.
16. Use the Leafy Branch and the Bunch of Flowers 4 dies to cut shapes from Soft Finish Cardstock for decoration. Ink with orange and green ink.
17. Next add a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive onto the leftover half circle piece. Remove the release sheeet and apply Fire Opal Silk Microfine Glitter onto the adhesive surface. Brush off excess. Polish with your fingertip to achieve a perfect shine.
18. Ink the area of the card base under where the window will later be with blue ink. Use the glittered half circle as a sun and mark its position with a pencil. Cut the “sun” down to size.
19. Add thin adhesive stripes (6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive) as sun rays and then apply Silk Microfine Glitter Fire Opal onto the adhesive strips. Brush off excess, polish with your fingertip (as for all other projects).
20. Use a piece of soft foam and the eraser end of a pencil to shape the flower petals, ink the tips of the petals with pink ink for contrast. Then layer and adhere all pieces. Add some detail using green, black and white pens. This is what the finished cards look like:
There are so many possibilities for using a single sentiment die! Hope you give it a try. Happy crafting,
Sanna

Hello my crafty friends! It’s Raquel Mason here today. I am a big tea drinker, so when Karen Burniston designed the new Cup Pop Stand I was thrilled. What’s fun about this card is you get a glimpse of what’s inside the card by the tag hanging out at the bottom. So go get yourself a cup of tea or coffee and we’ll get crafty.
2. Using the Pull Card Edges, die cut the pieces shown below
3. Using the Accordion Circle and Tags Pivot Card, die cut the pieces shown below
4. Using the photos for placement, assemble the card front.
Using the photos for placement, assemble the inside of the card.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and feel inspired to try it out yourself.
Happy Crafting,
Raquel

Hi there! It’s Marsha here today, back again with another colourful project!
I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions, but I do choose a word for each year. Just to start the new year with intention. It’s a new chapter after all!
I have thought long and hard about how I want this chapter to feel and I came up with: bright, active, upbeat, happy, buzzing… vibrant. So that’s the word I chose!
I always like to create something that I can look at to remind me of my word throughout the year. I usually create a canvas or a scrapbook page, but as I still had one more of those shadow box frames left from my last project, I decided to create something vibrant and shiny to put into it.
The idea for it came from these scraps that I had left after die-cutting rainbows with the new Rainbow Sky die set:
I also happen to be studying the life and works of Sonia Delaunay for an online class and the shadow box frame is heavily inspired by her Electric Prisms. I love her art and it fits my word so well!
But before I started die-cutting Shimmer Sheetz, I experimented with coloured paper first. It’s a good thing I did, because I found out that a combination of layering and inlaying the pieces worked best for me.
Here are the steps to create the layered, checkered circles:
1. Choose the paper/colours you want to use and then the sizes of Fitted Circles you want to layer. I looked at artist Sonia Delaunay’s work for colour inspiration.
2. Cut squares of Clear Double Sided Adhesive to the size of the Fitted Circles you have decided to layer.
3. Cut the paper in squares to adhere onto each quarter of the Clear Double Sided Adhesive squares. The paper squares in the photo are huge: you really don’t need that much excess paper!
4. Position your Fitted Circles dies on top of the paper. The point where all four colours of paper meet, needs to be in the exact middle of the Fitted Circle.
5. Die-cut the circles.
6. Adhere the checkered circles one on top of the other.
7. Optional: add leftover Rainbow Sky pieces!
I used the same steps to create the Shimmer Sheetz shadow box frame. I found that I did not need to use the Metal Adaptor Plate this time, but most times I do use a Metal Adaptor Plate for the best results when die-cutting Shimmer Sheetz.
Here’s a look at the result of my experiments:
Happy, vibrant crafting!

Mary here with a card I made for my husband’s birthday. We used to have two beautiful Yorkshire Terriers – mother and daughter. My husband and I adored them. I modeled this one after the mother, our very first dog together. She looked very much like this. They have since passed (they were both very old for Yorkies; the mother lived to be almost 16), but we fondly think of them often. There is a photo of them on Awash with Color.
Making the Card
1. Cut light blue cardstock 7×10 inches; fold in half for a 5×7 inch card base.
2. Die cut clouds (CountryScapes – Clouds & Grass) leaving most space above the die – you will use the top as a stencil to create clouds. Sponge white ink or chalk under stencil to create a cloud line then flip it and create the other side of the clouds. Add some at the top as well.
3. Die cut arbor and 2 picket fences (CountryScapes Nantucket Arbor & Picket Fence). Ink randomly with Antique Linen Distress Ink using blending tool. Add lines and shading with colored pencil as shown (Prismacolor Ginger Root). Adhere to card.
4. Die cut two sets of tulips and petals (CountryScapes Garden Edges Tulip) from white cardstock. Color with alcohol markers (see supply list for colors). Shape by running leaf tool (pointy end) down leaves and ball stylus on insides of tulip petals. Glue separate petals to flower edge petals at bottom so that they are slightly lower to give them a 3D look. Adhere to card as shown – double offset the rows.
5. Die cut Yorkshire Terrier (Critters 5) from white cardstock; color as shown (base colors in alcohol markers, details with Prismacolor pencils). Optional: add small amount of Tuxedo Black irRESISTible Pico Embellisher to eyes, nose, and mouth using pointy end of die pick or toothpick. Once dry, rub large ball stylus behind dog body and head to give it dimension. Adhere where shown using dimensional tape or silicone glue.
6. Die cut lots of ivy leaves (CountryScapes Mini Botanicals – Clematis, Ivy) from dark green cardstock. Shape each leaf by drawing lines down middle and toward points (veins) using leaf tool point. Adhere to arbor as shown.
7. Die cut four copies of Happy Birthday from light blue cardstock and one copy from white cardstock. Glue the blue copies to each other to form a thick stack then adhere the white on top. Adhere where shown.
8. Optional: Add Shimmer irRESISTible Pico Embellisher as shown (upper right corner and below sentiment).
