Setting up at CHA…Behind the Scenes

January 9, 2016

Today is the first day of the trade show at CHA, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Lots of hard work, catching up and having fun has gone into setting up our booth over the past couple of days. The booth is up,  it’s looking great and the trade show doors are open, but let’s take a moment to have a peek at what we’ve all been up to over the past couple of days…

Suzanne is always smiling! Even when she's working hard to get the booth together.

Card for friendship

January 8, 2016

Hello everyone,

It’s me, Petroschi Bianca.

I love the new Elizabeth Craft Designs products that will be presented at CHA Mega Show in January so much that I could not stay away, so I created a card dedicated to friendship.  I already need a breath of refreshing spring air so I used dies and stamps that bring the spring closer, even if the thermometer still says it’s winter.
7

6

1.To make this card, you will need a a wider cutting and embossing a machine ,because the base card have 16 cm/32 cm ( folded in half) (6 19/64 inch by 1 ft   19/32 inch)or(6,29 /12.59 inches).I recommend you to use 250 GSM paper .

For the base card I have used the Big Shot Plus machine, with Tags & More 1 – Lace overlay die,and the second big circle from Fitted Circles die set.You must place the overlay die on each corner of the square symmetrically.

You  have to run through the machine two overlapped papers and diecut it in the same time ( one of 16cm/32 cm,and a square one 16 cm/16cm) .After cutting, you stick these two together, with a sheet of vellum paper between them. You will see how beautiful the light goes through it.You can use either Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet ,before die cutting,or Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape of 3 mm (⅛ Inch),after die cutting. In this way,the card will look as beautiful on both sides.
1

2.In the middle of the card, I attached another circles,on both sides, die cutted with the fourth circle from Stiched Circles die set ( starting to count from the largest to smallest ).On the circle attached to the front of the card  I’ve stamped and colored using Robin 1 – Flower Wreath rubber stamp, Ladybug Quartet and on the back I used Seeds of Thought Red Rubber Stamp – A Friend.Inside,I added two decorative borders of antique golden paper, diecut with dies from  Chains 1 set.

3

3.I added two sprigs that embraces the circle, using a die from CountryScapes Flora 5 ( I placed the second  twig backwards ),and ,in one corner of the card, where the twigs meet , I added flowers made with Garden Notes Zinnia  die set.You can create this beautiful flower in several colors, using inks and sponge dauber.Normally, to create a flower ,is enough to use the petals die cut only once, but I preferred my flower to be with more petals ,so ,for each flower i diecutt twice .

2

4.After you have cut and colored the petals and leaves, do not forget to shape them ,using Susan’s Garden Club CountryScapes Tools.

4

5.I must admit that I have never seen quilling dies for flowers so small.I’m fallen in love with this die.

At the end ,I added the word Thanks ,diecutt in antique gold paper ,using A Way With Words, Thanks ,and I embellished the corners of my card with golden Peel-Off stickers.

Happy Birthday Circle Stand Up Card

January 7, 2016

ECDCircleEasel

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here. I love the New Year as it also means new products being released by Elizabeth Craft Designs at CHA, and who doesn’t love new things! I am super excited about the new dies being released this week. For my card today I have made a Circle Stand Up Helper (easel style) card using some of the new Fitted Frames 5 – Lace Circles, Fitted Circles, and Stitched Circles dies from Els van de Burgt Studio as well as the yummy new Joset Designs Cupcakes die set.

Here’s how I created my project:

ECDCircleEasel2

  1. Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock 100lb so it measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches. Score at 5 1/2 inches and fold in half.
  • Using the largest circle die from the Fitted Circles die set, position it on the front of the folded white card so that part of the cutting edge of the die is beyond the fold line. Refer to photos above. Run through die cutting machine.

ECDCircleEasel5wm

  • When you remove the die and open up your card it should like the photo above.

ECDCircleEasel6wm

  • Fold one of the circles in half so it lines up with the edges and reinforce the score line with bone folder.

ECDCircleEasel7

2.  Die cut another large circle from the Fitted Circles die set from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

  • Adhere a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to the back of three different shades of pink cardstock. Using the Fitted Frames 5 – Lace Circles die, run through die cutting machine with each color.
  • Select the first and fourth largest frame from the dark pink cardstock; the second largest frame from the mid pink cardstock and the third largest frame from the pale pink cardstock.
  • Position these so they are centred onto the large white circle we die cut previously. (Tape in place if necessary with removable tape.)
  • Remove the protective backing from either the outer or inner circle and position that onto the card with the others still in place and then careful remove protective backing from each of the other frames and position them onto your large circle.

ECDCircleEasel8

3. Apply adhesive to the white half circle and attach the decorated circle onto the card base.

ECDCircleEasel9wm

4. Using the second largest circle from the Stitched Circles die set die cut a piece of dark pink card which is approx. 5 inches square.

  • Find the centre of the circle and measure down approx. 1/2 inch and place the Happy Birthday Stand Up Helper word die onto the card and run through die cutting machine.
  • Optional: cut a strip of dark pink cardstock and adhere it to the back of the large pink circle under the hole created by the stand up die.
  • Adhere pink circle to the bottom white circle of the card base.
  • Using the pale pink card die cut another Happy Birthday birthday sentiment using the Happy Birthday Stand Up Helper Word die. Cut along the scored line created when die cutting and adhere over the dark pink Happy Birthday sentiment. (Adhere Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of pale pink cardstock prior to die cutting making it easier to hold the word strip in place.)

ECDCircleEasel

5. Using the flower and flower centre from the Cupcake die set die cut 5 pale pink flowers and 5 mid pink flower centres. Adhere the flower centre to the flower and adhere to the dark pink circle on the card base. (Optional: Shade pale pink flower with Copic Markers if desired).

ECDCircleEasel3

6. Using the Cupcakes die set die cut the following:

  • (1) Cupcake base from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • (1) Cupcake Icing from designer paper.
  • (1) Ribbon from mid pink cardstock
  • (1) Bow from mid pink cardstock
  • (3) Candles from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • (3) Candles from dark pink cardstock
  • Color the cupcake base using Copic Markers.
  • Color the flames on the white card with yellow Copic Markers. Cut off the flame from the dark pink candles and adhere the dark pink candles to the white candles.
  • Assemble the cupcake referring to photo above and adhere to the centre of the decorated circle using foam tape for dimension.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.

ECD-DT-Jan-2016--Lighthouse

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson.   Today I am excited to be posting as a new designer for the Elizabeth Craft Designs Design Team.  I will be using products from Els van de Burgt Studio and Joset Designs that are in the new Elizabeth Craft Designs product release this month.

Some of the new products include a variety of Fitted Frames that all work together.  You are going to love being creative with these new dies.  They come in Fitted Ovals, Fitted Squares, Fitted Circles and Fitted Rectangles.  There are Stitched sets in all four categories, and last but not least there are also Fitted Frames that come in the same four shapes.  Below are the pictures of the three Square Frame sets, that work together.

Stitched Squares

Fitted Squares

I will show you how I created frames for my card.

ECD-DT-Jan-2015-Tut2

1.  Use the two largest dies in the Stitched Squares set. Tape them down on the card stock, with even spacing between the dies, all the way around.  When die cut, you will have a frame plus a die cut square out of the center you can use for another project.

ECD-DT-Jan2016-Tut1

2.  Use the third smallest die (shown on top) for the center frame backing.  From the center of the die set, use the second (with dots) and third (with stitches) dies to create a frame.  I have the dies facing up, but be sure you turn them over and tape them down to die cut.

3.  Use the same Stitched Square die you use for the small frame to cut a backing for the small frame.

4.  Die cut the Fitted Frames 2 Lace Squares, and use the second largest frame.

ECD-DT-Jan-2016-tut3

5.  Above are the pieces you need to create the frames.

6.  The largest Stitched Square frame measures 5 1/4″ square.  Cut a piece of blue card stock 5 1/2″ for a base for the frames.  Glue the two largest frames to the blue square, as shown on the card.

7.  Die cut the Starfish from the Small Shells Die set.  Use gold card stock for the overlay and white card stock for the base.  Color the solid piece using markers.  Attach the two pieces together.

8.  On the small square die cut, create dots in the center that will show behind the Starfish die cut and attach the Starfish with a dimensional glue dot.

9.  Glue the small Stitched Frame inside the larger frame.

10.  Using the Joset Designs Lighthouse die set, die cut the two pieces for the Lighthouse.  Use gold card stock for the overlay and white card stock for the base.  Color the base with markers and attach the gold overlay on top.  Die cut the flag and attach at the top of the Lighthouse.

11.  Attach the Lighthouse on the left side of the card.

12.  Die cut the Anchor, from the Lighthouse set using gold card stock and attach to the right side.

13.  Using one of the rope dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio Ropes 1 die set, die cut a rope strip from Kraft brown card stock and shade with brown ink.  Attach it along the bottom edge.

All these dies help create a wonderful card that would be great for anyone!

Daffodil Delight

Daffodil Delight 010416 1

Hello Everyone,

It’s Christine wishing you all a very Happy New Year! I am really excited about all the new dies being released soon for Susan’s Garden Club – so many to choose from. Today I have chosen the new Garden Notes Daffodil die and the new CountryScapes Garden Edges Daffodil set (these dies are coming soon) as they are one of my favorites flowers. Daffodils always brighten things up after a long winter; they always make me smile.

Let’s get started – Card base is 6″ X 6″

1. Cut 3 daffodils and stamen using yellow cardstock and the leaves and stems using green cardstock.

a. Using PanPastels Set 1 add a little orange shading to the inside of the daffodil and a light green to the stem and leaves.

b.  Place flower and petals face down on molding mat and shape with loop tool. Turn flower over, take medium ball tool and rub just the edges to curl them back.

c.  Shape petals using loop tool as well. Turn over, and using medium ball tool press in center to curve petals up.

d.  Each end of flower has a tab. Fold these in, add glue to one tab and place other tab on top shaping the flower. Glue flower to center of the 3 petals then glue to piece with 2 petals, offsetting the petals.

e.   Using PanPastels shade ends of stamen with orange. Using a dot clear-drying glue along bottom, leaving tab end free of glue. Using fine tip tweezers (from Susan’s Garden Club tool kit) roll up starting at tab end, hold for a few seconds and then remove tweezers. Fan out stamens. Dip ends into glue then into orange pollen. Dip bottom of stamens into glue and place into center of flower.

f.  Place stem and leaves face down on leaf pad. Using leaf tool put veins down center of stem and all leaves. Turn over using tweezers, pinch leaves upward, lay face down on molding pad and rub the very end with medium ball tool to give dimension.

2. Cut a piece of cardstock 5-3/4″ square (white can be used); cover the front side with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet. Remove protected covering and add Rust Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with your fingertip.

3. Using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, add to front of card base.

4. Cut 4 corners from white cardstock using corner die from Tags & More 7 – Vines – attach to 4 corners of glittered paper using clear-drying glue.

5. Cut 4 CountryScapes Garden Edges Daffodil strips from white cardstock; fit around the edges between the corners (these will have to be cut down to fit). Attach using clear-drying glue.

6.  Attach flowers and leaves to the center.

7.  Using white cardstock covered with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front, die cut Happy Birthday using Quietfire Design A Way With Words die. Remove protective coating and add Rust Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with your fingertip.

8.  Add “Happy Birthday” to inside of card.

It’s Always Calendar Time, Continued…

January 3, 2016

Hello, everyone. It’s Judi Kauffman, back as today’s guest designer with a continuation of the Elizabeth Craft Designs December 2015 Designers’ Challenge. The theme was calendars and I couldn’t stop at just one. I kept going and designed three more! (I’ll include a photo of my Challenge calendar and a link to the instructions for it at the end of this post, right before the supply list.)

1-3-2016-A (2)

I decided to use up the random-width 6” long scraps of Els van de Burgt Studio ‘Through the Lens’ Metal, Wood, and Stone Series papers that were left after a flurry of card making.

1-3-2016-G (3)

As you can see from the three project photos shown above, the calendars are super simple. And they were fast and easy to make and customize.

In addition to the paper strips, I incorporated some new Els van de Burgt Studio dies – Stitched Rectangles and Corners 1, plus some previously-released favorites of mine – Hardware 1 – Hinges, Numbers & More 2, and some bits from Tags & More.

I made my own calendar pads with a simple graphics program, but they are available pre-made in a variety of sizes.

Because no two people will have the same scraps, your calendars will be unique and different from mine. Even if you cut identical strips, changing the progression of the pieces will yield an endless number of options, a new ‘look’ each and every single time!

My favorite is the one with the faux clipboard topper at the top of the rectangle with the calendar pad. I love the way the strips at the bottom look have the pattern oriented so that the wood pieces are vertical, anchoring the calendar, while all of the other strips are oriented so that the patterns have a distinct horizontal feel to them. This is intentional, not accidental, and the result of lots of arranging and rearranging the paper scraps.

Which is your favorite? Why? Please do some ‘show and tell’ – Post YOUR calendar on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Facebook Family page so we can see what you’ve made!

Instructions:

  1. Arrange a series of random-width 6” long strips of ‘Through the Lens’ papers. Rearrange till you like the progression and the way the colors and designs work together. For the projects shown, strips vary from 1” to 3” x 6”. Use smaller pieces to create 6” long strips if needed.
  1. Leaving a scant 1/8” border at the top and right, adhere the strips to a piece of 12” x 12” light tan (or other neutral) solid color cardstock so the strips touch, but do not overlap. As soon as the calendar is the desired length, cut off the extra cardstock at the left side and across the bottom edge, leaving the same scant 1/8” border. The shortest calendar measures 10” from top to bottom; the longest one measures 11.75”. (If you know you are making a calendar that is shorter than 11.75”, use a standard sheet of 8.5” x 11” cardstock instead of 12” x 12”.)

1-3-2016-C (2)

  1. Back Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. For each calendar, die cut a 3” x 4.25” Stitched Rectangle and two Hardware 1 – Hinges. Cut each of the Hinges in half along the score line. Be careful not to lose the six little circles that are part of the hinge die! You’ll need them in step 5. Lightly sand the rectangles and hinges, but NOT the little circles.

Reminder: A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video HERE if you are new to this technique.

1-3-2016-B (2)

  1. Optional: Also die cut a Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz decorative reinforcement for the hanging hole and a clipboard topper (using any reinforcement from the Tags & More die series) or two decorative Corners 1 pieces. Lightly sand these pieces. Use the matching circle die or a .25” circle punch to cut a hole, centered, at the top of the calendar. Die cut the numbers ‘2016’ from Velvet Adhesive Sheet.

1-3-2016-E (2)1-3-2016-F (2)

  1. To complete the calendar, add the Stitched Rectangle, calendar pad, and any of these embellishments: Decorative reinforcement for the hanging hole, clipboard topper piece, Velvet numbers, Corners 1 pieces, sanded hinge pieces and the tiny un-sanded circles that fit into the hinge pieces (resembling nail heads). Refer to project photos for placement.
  1. More ideas:

*Instead of Hardware 1 – Hinges, use four Corners 1 pieces.

*Instead of mixing papers from all three packs, use only papers from one or two.

*Instead of random-width strips, use strips that are all the same size.

*Instead of strips measuring an inch or more, use narrower ones and leave 1/8” of the solid color cardstock visible between them.

*Instead of strips, use 1”, 2”, or 3” squares and create a mosaic background instead of stripes.

*Use black, brown or navy ink to distress the edges of all of the paper pieces before arranging them.

Quietfire Design Elizabeth Craft Designs It's a Party card 1 Kathy Jo

Hello Crafty Friends! Kathy Jo here and I am very excited to share a project using one of the soon-to-be-released Elizabeth Craft Designs dies from the A Way With Words Collection, designed by Suzanne Cannon: It’s a Party. What a great die set! It could be used for the front of a party invite, the front of a birthday card, on a birthday scrapbook page or on party favors (to name just a few of the many possibilities!). The project today will be a Happy Birthday card for a friend of mine who loves pink.

Quietfire Design Elizabeth Craft Designs It's a Party card 2 Kathy Jo

Instructions:

  1. Create a white tent fold card base 5.5” W x 4.25” H.
  2. Die cut It’s a Party from white card stock.
  3. Die cut Flourish Gift Frame from pink card stock.
  4. Create pink bubble background:
    • Apply pink Distress inks in various locations on white card stock. Dry with heat tool or air dry.

CountryScapes Wishing Well

January 2, 2016

CS-Wishing-Well-

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson with my first 2016 design team post for Susan’s Garden Club.   I am very excited to show you some of the new products that will be in Susan’s new release later this month.  You can be so creative using Susan’s CountryScapes dies.  They all work together to create beautiful,  dimensional scenes.

This is how I created this beautiful 6×6″ card using CountryScapes dies:

  1.  Create an outdoor background on white card stock, using Susan’s CountryScapes Cloud & Grass die cuts.  The cloud stencil was used to sponge on clouds, using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, on the upper three-fourths of the card.  On the bottom portion of the card, use the grass stencil and Mowed Lawn Distress Ink, for the back ground grass behind the fence.
  2. Die cut the CountryScapes Wishing Well and assemble.  To create a dimensional  wood shake shingle roof, die cut the roof four times.  Using only the shingle part of the die cut, cut the rows across on the three extra roofs, cutting off rows so you have three separate rows.  Cut between each shingle (vertical) and curl the edges up slightly – there are good embossed lines on this die cut to make it easy to see where to cut.  Starting with the die cut with three rows of shingles, glue to the large die cut roof.  Next, glue down the row with two rows of shingles, then on top, glue down the row with just one row of shingles.  They now appear very layered.
  3. Die cut the Picket Fence twice.  Cut one die cut in half so you can use half on each side of the Wishing Well.
  4. Die Cut the CountryScapes Flora Twice.  Cut bottom stem off one and glue the two together.  Die cut the flowers and leaves and attach to the branch.
  5. Die cut the Garden Edges Hyacinth and glue on flower petals.
  6. Die cut the Garden Edges Daffodil. ( I attached two die cuts only adding glue to the stems/leaves and slightly lowered the one on top to make the flowers dimensional.)
  7. Weave the Garden Edges Hyacinth together with the Garden Edges Daffodil so you are alternating the flowers, for a mixed flower border.
  8. Die cut and assemble the CountryScapes Azalea.
  9. Die cut and color the birds from the CountryScapes Critters 2 die set.
  10. Die cut the Elizabeth Craft Designs Outdoor Edges grass.
  11. Die cut and color the Ducks from the CountryScapes Critters 5 die set.

Assemble as shown on the card.
