Hi, it’s Kelly Booth here with a fun summer card using dies by Joset Designs! I have also used a little watercolor and some Distress Oxide inks to create this card.
Step 1 – Cut a piece of watercolor paper to 5″.5″ by 8″.5″ larger than needed for the sand castle, but allowing for lots of areas to choose from when die cutting it. Gather watercolors in earth tones and shades of brown. Paint spots all over the watercolor paper. IMPORTANT: Let each layer dry before putting more spots on the paper. As shown below, I painted in three layers. When dry, die cut all pieces for one sand castle.
Step 2 – Needed for this step: Two pieces of 100lb White Soft Finish Cardstock. For the first piece: Dab three different shades of blue Distress Oxide inks onto a non-stick craft mat. Spritz with water until the colors bead up into droplets. Place the cardstock down onto the inks, SMOOTH side facing down. Remove; heat set to dry. Repeat one or more times until the desired effect is achieved. Repeat with the second piece of White SFC, this time using shades of brown and antique linen.
Step 3 – Cut Stitched Hexagons from each of these inked pieces, then cut down the sand-colored one to create a ground line toward the bottom using dies from the Adventure Edges set. (These two pieces will create sky and sand behind the castle.)
Step 4 – Stamp Life’s A Beach from the Beach Sentiment’s set in dark brown ink on the smooth side of a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Center this and die cut using the double-ended banner from the Banners set.
Step 5 – Cut a shovel from a scrap of red cardstock.
Step 6 – Place a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive onto the back of a 4″25″ x 5″50″ piece of brown cardstock and place the Sand Castle pieces that have arched openings or windows on to this and die cut just getting the openings. below are the pieces you should have:
Step 7 – Assemble the castel using both liquid adhesive and foam tape to pop some of the parts out as shown on the card. Remove the backing from the Clear Double Sided Adhesive and position the windows and door onto the sand castle.
Step 8 – Place the sandy ground onto the blue (sky) background using some Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Place a little liquid adhesive on the underside of the blue frame and place it onto the background piece.
Step 9 – Cut the card base from an 11″ x 5″.5″ piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Score in half making a top fold card that is 5″1/2″ by 5″1/2″. Using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape place your hexagon onto the card base, centered as shown.
Step 10 – adhere the red shovel in the sand to the right of the castle, then adhere the castle using foam tape or pop dots to add dimension. Fold the banner sentiment and place pop dots or foam tape onto the center portion. Add it at the top of the hexagon to finish the card.
