Gate-fold Birthday Card

Hello! Diana here with a monochromatic birthday card for a dear friend of mine. She is such an elegant older lady that I wanted to convey that same elegance in the card – so I broke out some shimmery ribbon and pearls.

This card ended up being a square 5 3/4″ by 5 3/4″. On the page to buy the Gatefold – Elegant Roses die is a great YouTube tutorial oh how to create the gatefold. I used a lavendar cardstock for the gatefold and some one- sided designer paper for the inside of the card. I folded the 5.5″ x 11″ paper in half so that the inside of the card is white. I added a row of pearls to the top and bottom of the folded inside.

Now the inside flips open to showcase the message inside.

To decorate the inside, I used the Butterflies Spray stencil (you can also make your own by die cutting the Butterflies Spray from cardstock and using the negative) and sponged a light smattering of butterflies in purple ink. I also stamped the sentiment “Have an awesome day” and balloons from the Happy Birthday collection. From a slightly darker purple paper, I die cut Happy Birthday as well as the butterfly from the Butterfly Flourish die set.

I used Copic markers and a white jelly pen to color and add details to the stamp and die cut.

The butterfly above the ribbon is also adorned with the same pearls as the row under the gatefold.

Miss You Card

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Miss You Card.

To create my Miss You Card, I’ve used a variety of dies from Suzanne Cannon and Joset Designs. You’ll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my card at home.

Step One. Die cut the 4″ Stitched Rounded Rectangle die out of kraft cardstock. Die cut the 3 1/2″ Stitched Rounded Rectangle die out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of both rectangles using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. Die cut the Flourished Frame out of book page.

Step Three. Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of kraft cardstock. Ink the edges of the frame using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Four. Die cut the Miss You die out of Watercolor Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Worn Lipstick Distress Ink lightly over the entire surface of the word.

Step Five. Choose two of the flowers from the Floral Insert die and die cut the two flowers out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a waterbrush and the Watercolor Palette, colour the flowers.

Step Six. Adhere the Flourished Frame to the 4″ stitched rounded rectangle. Foam square the 3 1/2″ stitched rounded rectangle to the middle of the 4″ stitched rounded rectangle.

Step Seven. Adhere the two flowers to the left hand side of the 3 1/2″ stitched rounded rectangle as desired. Adhere the flourished oval frame 1/2″ from the bottom and 3/8″ from the right of the 3 1/2″ stitched rounded rectangle.

Step Eight. Adhere the Miss You word as desired overtop of the flourished oval frame.

Step Nine. Cut a cardbase out of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 1/4″ x 8″, score at 4″. Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Summer in our Hearts

Hey artlets! It’s Suzanne here today. Even though the days are getting shorter, summer isn’t over yet. When it’s gone, it stays in our hearts as we recall its wonderful moments. I wanted to make a card using Summer from the 4 Season’s die set and wanted to combine it with another A Way With Words die…. It was then I realize there were so many choices!!

I’d like to share a few I’ve assembled. These can be cards or titles for scrapbook pages, or dividers and pages for your planners/journals. Let’s have a look!

Butterfly Wings

Hi Friends! It’s EK, and I am popping in today to share a new card I crafted using some long neglected crafting supplies and A Way with Words Butterfly Flourish. I just love how elegant the flourishes of this die set make creating something special so simple.

Step One: On a crafting mat or glass, drop three similar liquid watercolors. I used Dr. Ph Martins Hydrus (just unearthed from my moving boxes) in two shades of red and one dark pink.

Step Two: Spray the liquid watercolor with plenty of water.

Step Three: Dip a piece of Watercolor Paper into the liquid watercolor and completely saturated with color. I was able to get three dips out of the puddle.

Step Four: Heat set the watercolor paper. Then spray with a iridescent watercolor spray. I used Perfect Pearls Mists.

Step Five: Die cut the watercolor paper using the Butterfly Flourish die set. I used just the large flourish once and the small flourish twice for this step.

Step Six: Add a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive to the watercolor paper. Die cut the detailed butterfly from the Butterfly Flourish die set.

Step Seven: Peel off the backing paper to the Clear Double Sided Adhesive and add Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to the detailed butterfly.

Step Eight: On a second piece of watercolor paper, die cut a frame using both the Stitched Indented Rectangle die set and Fitted Indented Rectangle die set.

Step Nine: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, adhere the die cut frame to an A2 card frame. Using a combination of 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive and Kids Choice Glue, add the flourished butterfly. Using Kids Kids Choice Glue add the glittered butterfly to the flourished butterfly.

Step Ten: Add a sentiment using the Love & Hearts Collection stamp set and two tones of ink. I used both Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries Distress Oxide.

Step Eleven: Adhere the two smaller butterfly flourishes. Add three drops of Pearl Rose Craft Drops and three drops of Transparent Crystal Craft Drops.

I love how this is a surprising simple this card was to create but how elegant it looks.

Summer Cheers

Hi there, Artlets! I hope your summer is going well. I have a fun project today that is so simple, you’ll be decorating everything that doesn’t stand still! It’s as simple as cutting a small piece of craft vinyl and applying it to a glass or cup or mason jar mug. Decorate a whole bunch of mugs for the family summer BBQ! We can all use a bit of bright fun this summer….

If you’re unfamiliar with craft vinyl, it is self-adhesive super thin plastic. You can often get it in sampler packages of different colours and sometimes single small sheets if you’re just trying it for the first time. Look for a vinyl that is permanent if you want it to stay on forever, or choose a temporary vinyl if you want to peel it off and have a different theme on your mugs next week! It comes in lots of colours.

Here is how you can party-up your mugs!

Instructions:

Wash your jar or mug so it’s nice and clean. Dry it well.

Die cut Cheers from vinyl. You are basically making a “sticker”!

Remove the release paper carefully from the back of the design. The design will more flexible as soon as the backing has been removed, so decide where you want the “sticker” in advance. Simply lay the design down without stretching the design, then rub it down well. Don’t forget to do the same with the “s”!

A handy helper that will make the transfer to glass a little safer and avoid stretching is to use transfer tape, or simply a piece of Removable Tape.

Before you remove the release paper, apply the Removable Tape across the front of the “sticker”.

Remove the release paper, then simply apply your “sticker” where you want it and carefully peel off the Removable Tape. Burnish your “sticker” well on the glass. Do the same with the “s”.

That’s it! You’re done! Now invite some people over for some cold summer cheer! Ice cubes. You’ll need lots of ice cubes.

Miss You

The theme for today’s post is all about the things we’ve missed during the summer months. We asked our designers to create miss you cards or cards that they would like to send to their loved ones. Or perhaps a beautiful scrapbook or planner page with their special summer memories.

First project is created by Tanja Kabel who made this colorful miss you card using the Bubbles die set in combination with the Morning Letters stamp set. She used White Soft Finish Cardstock for the Stitched Rectangle background and die cuts and colored the inside of the bubbles with Watercolors. What a beautiful look! Next card is created by Katelyn Grosart who used the beautiful Floral Insert die set from the Traveler’s Notebook collection in combination with the Bloom stencil from the Art Journal collection. In the same color scheme as Katelyn’s card is this next card created by Karen Ostercard. Love the artsy look of this card. Karen used the Earthy Girls stamp set in combination with the Beaded Circle Frames die set. For the background she used the Patterns 1 Stamps and the quote is from the Pieces of Life 3 – Quotes. For Joseph Nguyen the question of what do you miss is “love” the world everywhere is hurting and love is needed again. A beautiful card with lots of sparkle and cuteness. Who doesn’t want to receive this very thoughtful card? I think we all do and love is needed everywhere. Josepf used the Fox die set in combination with some beautiful Silk Microfine Glitter.

Next card is created by Suzanne Canon using the beautiful A Way With Words Miss you die in combination with the Flourishes Frames. The frame die set is so versatile and can be used for many themes and occasions. Find more beautiful creations on Suzanne’s blog HERE.

EK Gorman created these 2 adorable cards using new dies and stamps from the Storybook collection. For the backgrounds she used the Floral Burst Background die and added a cute little frog on one of the card and a fairy on the other. Both dies included in the collection. The sentiment are from the new Once Upon a Time and Prince & Frog stamp sets. Find more details HERE.

Tina Guigui used the Organic Triangle background die for her card in combination with an entwined heart from the Entwined Hearts die set. Absolutely love the rainbow color scheme of this card. Marjolijn van Elsberg missed her best friend over the summer and therefore she created this beautiful page for in her planner. She used the Planner Essentials 20 – Half Heart Page set in combination with dies from the Planner Essentials 24 – Photo Frame Pages. Annette Green created this adorable miss you card using the new Frog die set in combination with the Leaf Pattern Background. Love the combination of these 2. The small flowers are from the Once Upon a Time Accessories set. What an exciting little frog. This will sure but a smile on the recipient face. Sandy Diller had the exact same ideas for her card using the cute little Frog die in combination with the Leaf Pattern Background. Love the Silk Microfine Glitter background she created. There are 2 different shaped legs included in the Frog set so you could either make a jumping frog like Annette did or a sitting frog like Sandy’s. Just adorable! Find more details HERE.

Last but not least is this beautiful elegant card created Diana Hua who made this card for her son who was away all summer. What a thoughtful idea. Diana used the Balloons die set in combination with the A Way With Words Welcome die. Love the colors of the balloons. CAS Baby Love card

Hi, Diana here with a clean and simple baby card. I’ve had several friends have a baby recently and they have been on my mind because with the limit of visitors to hospitals and even homes, it’s important to send some love!

I made my own blue paper by swiping different shades of blue paint from the Watercolor Palette on watercolor paper and die cut the onesie from the Little Ones die set and the words “Baby” and “love” once the paint was dry.

The flourished ornament is die cut from silver Mirrorcard stock. Because the card design is so simple, I added dimension and interest by die cutting the word “Baby” out of white card stock another 5 times to pop up the word Baby. I find this more effective for dies that have delicate elements to it – it will also go through the mail much better.

I arranged all the dies as in the picture above on a plain white background with a dark blue card base.

Joy Gift Tag

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Joy Gift Tag.

To create my Joy Gift Tag, I’ve used a variety of dies and stamps from Suzanne Cannon as well as Els van de Burgt Studio. You’ll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my gift tag at home.

Step One. From the Planner Essentials 26 – Planner Pocket 3 – Tag & Toppers die, die cut the small tag out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Two. Choose a couple of the snowflakes from the Christmas Collection stamp set. Apply Emboss It Ink to the snowflakes and stamp randomly on the tag, reapply ink as needed, you’ll need a total of fourteen snowflakes. Sprinkle Forever Platinum Modern Gilding Powder over the stamped images. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Ink the edges of the tag using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Three. Die cut a 2 1/2″ Stitched Circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the circle using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Four. From the Love Joy & Peace Christmas Ornament, die cut the ornament out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the ornament. Sprinkle Kells Gold Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the ornament. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Five. From the Love Joy & Peace Christmas Ornament, die cut the joy word out of White Soft Finish Cardstock and black cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the white Joy word. Sprinkle Forever Platinum Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the word. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Six. Die cut the Snowflake from the Flourished Christmas Minis 2 out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the snowflake. Sprinkle Forever Platinum Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the snowflake. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Seven. Adhere the ornament to the stitched circle. Foam square the stitched circle 1/4″ from the right and 1 1/8″ from the bottom of the tag.

Step Eight. Adhere the snowflake to the middle of the ornament. Adhere the Joy embossed word slightly to the right overtop of the black cardstock Joy word, this will create a shadow in behind the embossed Joy word. Use foam squares to adhere the Joy word to the bottom right corner of the tag.

Step Nine. Tie a bow at the top of the tag with a piece of black twine. To finish off the tag, use White Craft Drops to add dots to the snowflake as desired.

You Are Perfect

Hey Friends! It’s EK Gorman, and I popping in today to share with you a new card tutorial. Have you ever found that your die is too big for the size card you want to create? I just adore Suzanne’s Cannon’s A Way With Words Wreath & Elements die, but it really is meant to adhere to a project larger than 6×6 inches. However, my favorite card size to work with is A2 (4.25×5.5 inches), so the die just doesn’t fit. But today I am sharing a cool and easily solution to make the over sized die look like it was meant to be.

Step One: Die cut the Way With Words Wreath & Elements die set out of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock. You do not need to die cut the full die.

Step Two: Die cut the floral piece that is meant to be layered under the Wreath flowers. Color the piece with ink. I used Abandoned Coral. Adhere with Kids Choice Glue under the die cut wreath.

Step Three: Trim a piece of Watercolor Paper to 4.25×5.5 inches. Spray the watercolor paper with liquid watercolor in two coordinating colors. I used both an orange and yellow spray ink from Tattered Angel. Let dry or set with a heat gun. Splash the inked cardstock with the lighter ink to create more visual interest.

Step Four: Die cut the sprayed ink paper with the Stitched Rounded Rectangle die set.

Step Five: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, adhere the watercolor paper to an A2 card frame. Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the wreath, letting it hand off the edge. Trim off the excess.

Step Six: Die cut from 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock the piece of the You Are Perfect die set. Leave the ‘you are’ white, but color the ‘perfect’ with an ombre effect. I used both Canddied Apple and Abandon Coral Distress Oxide to create this effect.

Step Seven: Adhere the sentiment to the cardstock using Kids Choice Glue. Let it over lap the wreath.

I just love how you can get a whole new look using just a section of this beautiful die. Do you ever trim your dies so they can fit smaller projects? Let us know in the comments below. Until then, Happy Crafting!

Cheery Hello Balloon!

It’s a good time to say Hello to someone special! It’s Suzanne here today and I’m sharing this fun technique that I’m in love with. It seems to be called the Eclipse technique and I like it because it’s a bit subtle, but it’s a great way to help the delicate Away With Words diecuts stand out from a busy patterned paper! If you’re familiar with the technique, this is a double-decker version! Join me!

Instructions:

Cut a panel from patterned paper measuring 5-1/8” x 6”. Cut a panel from black cardstock measuring slightly larger: 5.5” x 6.25” (not shown here).

Die cut the Big Balloon from the patterned paper panel as shown and also die cut the Big Balloon from fun foam.

Die cut Hello from the middle of the patterned paper Big Balloon diecut on a jaunty angle. Make sure you keep all the inside counterspaces of all the letters! Die cut Hello from a new piece of fun foam (NOT from the Big Balloon fun foam diecut!). You don’t need the fun foam counterspaces.
