I Melt for Cocoa

February 7, 2019

Since we are in full swing of winter, that means in my house we are in full swing of cocoa consumption. It seems every other day new snow is falling and tired kiddos need a little post school pick me up of sweet hot chocolate. So today, I thought I would whip up a little zero calorie treat that fits the seasons of warming up in the form of a mug of cocoa and a melting marshmallow.

Step One: Stamp the focal images from the Marshmallow Snowmen stamp set onto some 85lb White Soft Finish Cardstock. Color the images in with alcohol markers. I used my copics.

Step Two: Die cute the images using the coordinating Marshmallow Snowmen die set.

Step Three: Using the Dashing Circles die set, die cut a ring from a piece of Dusky Sky Soft Finish Cardstock to create the rim of the mug. Die cut a circle that will fit inside the mug rim from a piece of Bronze Metallic Shimmer Sheetz to be the cocoa.

Step Four: Using a piece of polka dot printed paper from the Sweet Vintage Rose collection, die cut it with the Dashing Rectangle die set.

Step Five: To create the handle of the mug, die cut an ‘O’ from some Dusky Sky Soft Finish Cardstock. Discard the ‘O’, and use the negative scrap from the inside of the letter. It sounds funny, but works perfectly.

Step Six: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, adhere the printed paper and mug/cocoa onto an A2 card frame.

Step Seven: Using some 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, add the mug handle.

Step Eight: Add a bit of 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive to the bottom of the melting marshmallow. Add some three-dimensional squares to the top of the image. Adhere it to the shimmer sheetz circle. Adhere the stamped banner above the mug.

Step Nine: Stamp in brown ink, the sentiment from the Cute Winter Sentiments onto some 85lb White Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim the sentiment and matte it with some Rust Soft Finish Cardstock. Adhere it to the bottom left of the A2 card.

Step Ten: Using the same brown ink that you used to stamp the sentiment distress the edges of the A2 card frame.

What you get in the end is a fun mug of cocoa that is sure to brighten any child or chocolate-lover’s day.

Thanks for peeking in, and I hope you are staying warm.

Blossom, Bloom & Grow

January 29, 2019

Hello! Samantha here. Welcome to my first blog post write-up for Elizabeth Craft Designs for 2019! Today I’m sharing a card I made using Krista’s Garden Party Clear Stamp set and Co-ordinating Die. I was drawn to this set because of the cat –– I’m more of a dog person but I have many friends and their young daughters who love their feline pets and thought it was a much needed theme to add to my card stash.

Card Instructions

Step 1: On Copic-friendly cardstock, stamp the lanterns 5x on the right side of your card front.

Step 2: Stamp an additional 3x lanterns, the cat image and the sentiments on Copic-friendly cardstock and die cut them out.

Step 3: Colour the die cut images with Copic markers (or your preferred choice of colouring medium).

COPIC MARKERS USED: G14/G16/YR12/YR14/YR16/R12/R14/R17

Step 4: Assemble card – Adhere the 3x die cut lanterns on top of the first three stamped lanterns on your card front with foam tape. Colour in the last two lanterns with Copic markers. Adhere the cat and the sentiment with foam tape.

Step 5: Adhere card front to an A6 side folding card base. Embellish with sequins and a twine bow.

I love the bright colours and the feminine feel this card has. It’s the perfect card to give to a cat loving girl on their birthday. I loved it so much I also decided to create a similar layout with the additional images in this stamp set.

This card uses the same colour scheme and a similar layout –– both images are really perfect to create a beautiful card for a young girl on her special day. Give the card instructions a go –– I used Copics as my preferred colouring medium but kept the colouring and shading very simple. You could use any colouring tool!

Happy Crafting!

Samantha

You’re Cool

January 9, 2019

Hey friends! It’s EK sneaking in to the blog, and today I’m creating a little post holiday blues card. I find the time after the holiday, but before the weather warms up to be the most difficult time of the year to create. Now that Christmas is over, I’m ready to start thinking about spring crafting, but that is still month’s away. So today, I thought I would just embrace my winter blues and create a cute critter card.

Step One: Trim a piece of Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock to 6×12 inches. Scor and fold paper at the 6 inches to create a 6×6 inch card frame. Trim some 85lb White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4.25×5.5 inches.

Step Two: Stamp the critter images from the Winter Animals stamp set onto the white cardstock using copic friendly ink.

Step Three: Color in the stamped images using alcohol markers. I used copics and focused on shades of brown and blue.

Step Four: Die cut a frame for the card using Soft Sky Soft Finish Cardstock and the Frame It/Stitched Squares. Die cut some Rust Soft Finish Cardstock with the Garden Notes Grapevine Wreath Square.

Step Five: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive adhere the soft sky paper onto the card frame. Using Kids Choice Glue adhere the grapevine wreath, squirrel and fox to the card frame. Add the owl with three dimensional tape.

Step Six: Using the Cute Winter Sentiments stamp set, stamp snowflakes onto the background using white pigment ink. Add a sentiment to the bottom right corner from the Cute Winter Sentiments stamp set in blue ink. I used Archival Cobalt Blue ink.

Thank you for peeking into today, and helping me embrace my winter crafting blues.
