Elizabeth Craft Designs A Way With Words Suzanne Cannon Graphic 45 By The Sea Lighthouse Masculine birthday card Kathy Jo 1Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here to share a sea-inspired birthday card using the lovely Happy Birthday 2 die set from Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words collection.  Such a great die set- I have used this set several times…love it!  Also used on the card is one of my new favorite die sets: Lighthouse from Joset Designs.  The birthday greeting and lighthouse go very well together.  While I was making the card I decided to make extras of the die cuts so that I can make another card for the stash.  (Perfect excuse for more die cutting fun!)

Happy Birthday

January 10, 2016

IMG_5604

Hello everyone,

It’s Jackeline and for my project today I decided to create a fun card using the new Joset Designs ‘Hot Air Balloons’ die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs making its debut at the CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) trade show in California this weekend!

Let’s get started:

  1. Cut a  9 1/4″ x 6″ rectangle from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  2. Make a score line at 4 3/4″ and fold the rectangle in half to create a top-fold card base.
  3. Die cut a Stitched Rectangle from Bluebell Soft Finish Cardstock using the largest rectangle in the set.
  4. Die cut 6 clouds from White Soft Finish Cardstock using the cloud die from the Rainbow Sky die set. Using a Mini Ink Blending Tool, ink 3 clouds using Faded Jeans Distress Ink. Keep the other 3 clouds white.
  5. Die cut a sun from Sunflower Soft Finish Cardstock using the sun die from the Rainbow Sky set.
  6. To make the banner: Cut a 2 3/4″ x 3/4″ rectangle from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Position only short end of the white rectangle inside the Big Banner die with the V-shaped cutout at the end and run it through the machine only partway to cut the V. Do NOT run it all the way through!
  7. Repeat the same process with a 2 5/8″ x 1 /2″ rectangle cut from Black Soft Finish Cardstock, this time using the small V-shaped Banner die. Layer the black piece on top of the white piece, securing with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.
  8. Add a Gold Happy Birthday peel-off  to the banner. (Option: Use a different greeting.)
  9. To create the striped balloon die cut 5 hot air balloon overlays from Spring Green, True Blue, Ladybug Red, Sunflower. and Mustard Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Using the Fine Pointed Scissors cut each balloon into pieces following the score lines. Build a striped balloon by arranging pieces in the color progression shown or as you prefer. Set aside the extra pieces for additional cards. Add 2 rows of  Red Glitter Lines Peel-offs to the basket as shown below.
  10. Assemble the card front as shown on the project photo, using Clear Double Sided Adhesive to secure the pieces. Optional: Add foam tape beneath some of the clouds to add extra dimension.

I hope this tutorial will help you to find inspiration for your next project and that you enjoyed it.

Happy Crafting !!!

Jackeline.

Daffodil Delight

January 4, 2016

Daffodil Delight 010416 1

Hello Everyone,

It’s Christine wishing you all a very Happy New Year! I am really excited about all the new dies being released soon for Susan’s Garden Club – so many to choose from. Today I have chosen the new Garden Notes Daffodil die and the new CountryScapes Garden Edges Daffodil set (these dies are coming soon) as they are one of my favorites flowers. Daffodils always brighten things up after a long winter; they always make me smile.

Let’s get started – Card base is 6″ X 6″

1. Cut 3 daffodils and stamen using yellow cardstock and the leaves and stems using green cardstock.

a. Using PanPastels Set 1 add a little orange shading to the inside of the daffodil and a light green to the stem and leaves.

b.  Place flower and petals face down on molding mat and shape with loop tool. Turn flower over, take medium ball tool and rub just the edges to curl them back.

c.  Shape petals using loop tool as well. Turn over, and using medium ball tool press in center to curve petals up.

d.  Each end of flower has a tab. Fold these in, add glue to one tab and place other tab on top shaping the flower. Glue flower to center of the 3 petals then glue to piece with 2 petals, offsetting the petals.

e.   Using PanPastels shade ends of stamen with orange. Using a dot clear-drying glue along bottom, leaving tab end free of glue. Using fine tip tweezers (from Susan’s Garden Club tool kit) roll up starting at tab end, hold for a few seconds and then remove tweezers. Fan out stamens. Dip ends into glue then into orange pollen. Dip bottom of stamens into glue and place into center of flower.

f.  Place stem and leaves face down on leaf pad. Using leaf tool put veins down center of stem and all leaves. Turn over using tweezers, pinch leaves upward, lay face down on molding pad and rub the very end with medium ball tool to give dimension.

2. Cut a piece of cardstock 5-3/4″ square (white can be used); cover the front side with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet. Remove protected covering and add Rust Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with your fingertip.

3. Using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, add to front of card base.

4. Cut 4 corners from white cardstock using corner die from Tags & More 7 – Vines – attach to 4 corners of glittered paper using clear-drying glue.

5. Cut 4 CountryScapes Garden Edges Daffodil strips from white cardstock; fit around the edges between the corners (these will have to be cut down to fit). Attach using clear-drying glue.

6.  Attach flowers and leaves to the center.

7.  Using white cardstock covered with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front, die cut Happy Birthday using Quietfire Design A Way With Words die. Remove protective coating and add Rust Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with your fingertip.

8.  Add “Happy Birthday” to inside of card.

A Way With Words

Candles, Candles, Candles

December 6, 2015

By Judi Kauffman

Thank you for inviting me to be today’s guest designer. I thought it would be fun to make cards with candles, and as always I wanted to play with unexpected colors and a lot of patterned elements – the candles themselves, along with background papers.

To me, candles always conjure up some kind of celebration, twinkling lights and good times. It was fun to decide which of Elizabeth Craft Designs’ candles to use for my projects. There are several options including dies and peel-offs. I chose Candles Peel-offs 2545 for my three cards because of all of the stripes and dots. I made a card for our goddaughter’s husband’s 40th birthday, one for their children for Chanukah, and one for a neighbor for Christmas.

There are a dozen candles on each sheet of Peel-Off Stickers, and of course with dies there is no limit to the number you can make.

Design Strategies and Instructions:

  1. Place candle peel-offs on smooth white cardstock; color with markers. Use fine point scissors to cut out the candles, taking special care around the flame and wick. Candle peel-offs come in black, gold, and silver – pick the color appropriate to the project. Option: Add a Glitter Dot peel-off to the base of each flame. (As shown, Orange/Silver dots used on birthday and Chanukah cards.)
  1. For the birthday card and Christmas card, die cut a large greeting from Shimmer Sheetz. Options: Lightly sand the Shimmer Sheetz before cutting, cut the greeting a second time from Adhesive Velvet in a darker color to use as a drop shadow as shown on the birthday card. A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s video’s HERE and HERE if you are new to this technique.
  1. For the birthday card cut Shimmer Sheetz and Velvet Adhesive numbers for the age of the recipient. Option: Add Glitter Dots Peel-Off Stickers to the numbers. (As shown, use the same Orange/Silver dots as on the candles.)

  1. To complete the Chanukah card: Use the glittering technique and alcohol markers with a Ribbon Swirls Peel-Off Stickers strip. Choose colors that coordinate with the candles. Review Els van de Burgt’s video HERE if you are new to this technique. Cut the glittered strip into 3 pieces: 6 3/8”, 1”, and 5/8”. Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to secure these pieces to Blue Velvet Adhesive sheet, leaving a 1/8” border on all sides of the first two pieces and a 1/8” border only on the long sides of the 5/8” piece. Center the menorah on a 4 1/4” x 7” piece of striped scrapbook paper in colors that coordinate with markers used to color the candles. Center the striped rectangle on a glittered cardstock top-fold card base, folded size – 5” x 7 3/4”.
  1. To complete the Christmas card: Color two holly berry/leaf clusters and one bow from the Christmas Ornaments 2 peel-off sheet. Cut around them, separating the berry trios from the pairs of leaves. Position the Red Iridescent die cut Shimmer Sheetz Merry Christmas on a 3 1/4” x 4 3/4″ piece of red cardstock. Use small pieces of Power Adhesive Tabs to hold the words in place. Tip: Cut Power Tabs with non-stick scissors. Mat to a piece of red glittered cardstock, leaving a 1/4” border on all sides. Center red rectangle on a top-fold card base made from diagonally striped paper, folded size – 5” x 7”. Add the holly, berries, and candles, positioned as shown in the project photo. Note: The berries are above the greeting, the leaves are tucked partially behind it.
  1. To complete the flat* birthday card: Center a 3” x 4” piece of glittered cardstock on a 4 3/4” x 5 1/2” piece of striped paper. Add a double border to the striped rectangle, leaving a scant 1/8” border on the darker color and a generous 1/8” border on the lighter color (the bottom layer). Arrange and adhere the die cut greeting and shadow, the numbers and shadow, and four candles, as shown in the project photo. *Flat cards are meant to be displayed on a Card Stand/Easel or hung on the wall. Use a side-fold card base instead if you prefer.

Pop it Ups

Hop, Hop Hooray!

KBLuckyBdayPopUP1wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here today with another Pop It Ups project to share with you. I don’t know about you, but I always need birthday cards especially at this time of year as I give away a lot of my cards to family for Christmas. Today I am playing with the new Lucky the Rabbit Character die set to create a Pop Up birthday card.

Here is how I created my card:

KBLuckyBdayPopUP2wm

  1. Cut a piece of carrot themed designer paper so it is 4 1/2 inches x 6 1/4 inches. Cut the orange polka dot designer paper at 4 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches.

KBLuckyBdayPopUP4

  • Score the carrot themed designer paper at 1/2 inch from one end. Apply adhesive to the 1/2 inch score line carrot side up and attach to the back of the orange polka dot designer paper. Fold paper on this score line.
  • Using the Lots of Pops pop up die, centre the die so that the centre nubs line up with score line of the designer paper and die cut. Refer to Karen Burniston’s video here on how to use the Lots of Pops Pop Up Card.
  • Fold the paper in half again and line up the edge from the Agatha Edges die set to create edge on the top and bottom of the card.
  • Open up card and pop up all the Pop Up  pieces previously die cut on the designer paper.

2. Apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of a piece of green card stock large enough to die cut 3 decorative flourishes from the Agatha Edges die set. Die cut. Adhere one of the pieces to the top and bottom of the pop up card. (reverse the third decorative flourish for the front of the card.

3. Cut a piece of orange card that measures 4 1/2 inches x 11 1/2 inches. Score the card at 5 3/4.

  • Apply adhesive to one side of the back of the pop up designer paper piece and adhere to the inside of the orange card.
  • Apply adhesive to the other side of the pop up designer paper piece and adhere this to other side of the inside of orange card.

KBLuckyBdayPopUP3wm

4. Using the Lucky the Rabbit Character die set die cut the following:

  • (1) Solid Rabbit Body from black card
  • (1) Detail Rabbit Body from Beige Velvet Adhesive Sheet
  • (1) Solid Feet from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet
  • (1) Nose from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet
  • (1) Inner Ears from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet (die cut these from Detail Rabbit Body)
  • (1) set of Whiskers from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) set of Eyes from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Rabbit Tail from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Buck Teeth from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (6) Carrots from Orange Card
  • (6) Carrot Tops from Green Card

Assemble Lucky the Rabbit adding a carrot to it’s hand and attach to the top pop up piece of the card. You can view Karen Burniston’s video on how to assemble Lucky the Rabbit here.

5. Using the Props 7 – Basket  die set die cut the following:

  • (2) Baskets & Accessory pieces from Brown Card
  • (2) Grass pieces from Green Card.

6a00d834524f1f69e201b8d16c673f970c-500wi

  • Use the graphic above created by Karen Burniston to assemble the baskets.
  • Add the Green grass pieces to the inside top of the baskets.
  • Adhere two carrots to each of the baskets.
  • Attach baskets to the two side pop up panels on card.

6.  Using the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set, stamp the “hop, hop Hooray!” sentiment onto cream card using black ink.

  • Use the Fishtail Banner die from the Lots of Pops die set to die cut sentiment.
  • Sponge around the edge of the banner using orange PanPastels.
  • Attach banner to front pop up panel on card.

KBLuckyBdayPopUPwm

The Front of the Card:

7.  Cut a piece of Orange Polka Dot designer paper that is 4 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches

  • Use the edge die from the Agatha Edges die set to cut a decorative edge to bottom of card.
  • Adhere designer paper to front of card.
  • Use the Green Flourish Decorative die cut remaining from step 2 along the decorate edge of the designer paper.

8. Using the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set stamp the “It’s Somebunny’s Birthday” sentiment to cream card stock using black ink.

  • Line up the large label die from the Katie Label Accordion Card die set so that the sentiment is on the right edge of the die. Die cut.
  • Sponge around the edge of the banner using orange PanPastels.
  • Stamp the Rabbit from the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set onto cream card using black ink. Cut out image and color using copic markers.
  • Attach the Rabbit to left side of Katie Label using foam tape.
  • Attach label to front of the card using foam tape.

Happy Bee Tag Card

October 11, 2015

Hello everyone.

It’s Jackeline here.Today I am bringing you a project with some of my favorite dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio collection.

bee

Here is how I created the card:

  • Cut a piece of black cardstock 8 1/2” x  7”. Score the card along the 8 1/2” side at 4 1/4” and fold.
  • Line up the main tag die from the Tags & More 7 – Vine at the top of the card front and die cut.
  • Cut a piece of your favorite pattern paper 4 1/4” x 5 3/8”. In this case I used a yellow pattern paper to match with the bees.
  • Adhere the yellow piece 1/4″ from the bottom using Double Sided Adhesive Tape.
  • Die cut one Accordion Oval panel from black cardstock. Remove the border and the small side tab, leaving just the oval piece.
  • Die cut one oval with stitches from water color paper using the largest decorative oval die and the oval with stitches die from the Accordion Oval Card set.
  • Back stitched oval with black oval. Adhere to card front on top of the yellow patterned paper piece.
  • Die cut bees bodies (5) from black and yellow velvet adhesive sheets. Die cut wings from White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz.

It’s time to do the final details:

  • Apply “Happy Birthday” peel-off to the top corner of the yellow piece.
  • I used the decorator die from the Katie Label Accordion to die cut two corners from black velvet adhesive sheets. Adhere them in the black top portion of the tag card.
  • Adhere a black peel-off border at the top of the yellow pattern paper.
  • To finish off this beautiful card I added one of my special touches, a gorgeous black and white ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Jackeline.

A Fun Card using Cheepers and Fall Pop it Ups Collection dies

September 12, 2015

Hi,

I’m Kelly Booth and today I have a fun Happy Birthday card using Cheepers the Chicken and the Happy Birthday Pop It Ups die by Karen Burniston. I also wanted to give you a little peek of a die set just released this weekend at the Collins Group Show!

Here is my Card Front:

Watermarked Photo 3 (2015-09-09-1323)

It’s so fun to dress Cheepers up like a cowboy!

Here is the inside of the card:

Watermarked Photo 1 (2015-09-09-1322)

This fun card is suitable for either a male or female.

Instructions:

  1.  Cut two pieces of cardstock; one red and one kraft at 5″x11 and score in the center at 5″1/2″. Place the Happy Birthday Pop Up Die in the center of the kraft piece and run through your die cutting machine.  Gently press the folds to form the pop up by following the package instructions.  Place pieces of Elizabeth Craft Designs Double Sided Adhesive on the back side of the kraft piece making sure you stay away from the areas that pop up.  Remove backing from the pieces and adhere inside the red backing card one side at a time.  Trim edges down if needed.
  2. Use either patterned paper or stamp a pattern on a piece of ECD  Smooth Finish cardstock 4.25″ x 5″ and cut the Boots, Scarf, and Happy Birthday Wording. (set aside) Cut the Shadow for Cheepers from a scrap of black cardstock.  Cut one banner and one stitched label from the Lorna Label set.  Cut one speech bubble from the Rectangle Accordion set all from Smooth Finish White Cardstock. (set aside)
  3. Place Double Sided Adhesive on a piece of red card stock 4 1/2″ x 5″ Cut the Happy Birthday Pop up making sure you get the shadowed area and the bottom strip under the step. Cut out the Happy Birthday shadow area and the bottom step strip. (set aside)
  4. Place a Piece of ECD Double Sided Adhesive onto a piece of the Smooth Finish Cardstock and Cut Cheepers’ body and the eyes. Using a scrap of red backed with Double Sided Adhesive, cut the waddle and the tail feathers, using a scrap of orange backed with ECD Double Sided Adhesive cut the Beak. (set aside)
  5. Take a  scrap piece of card stock and put ECD DSA onto it.  Remove the backing and burnish in some Solar Gold Silk Microfine Glitter, polish well and shake off the excess.  With this piece cut one Sheriff’s Badge (Props 6 coming soon) and small stars from the Happy Birthday Pop it Ups set. Set aside.
  6. For the last cut take a strip of Kraft card stock 5″ x 2 1/2″ place ECD Double Sided adhesive on the back and cut the ground for the front using the Outdoor edges wavy ground die. Place this on the bottom of the front of the card.
  7. Assemble Cheepers by adhering the detail layer to the shadow layer. Place the eyes in the eye holes then remove the backing and add the red waddle and the tail feathers. Next add the orange beak and the scarf. Using a pop dot or foam tape place Cheepers’ hat onto his head tilting it slightly. Use foam tape on the back of Cheepers and place him on the front of the card leaving room to add his boots under his body. Use foam tape with the boots.
  8. To finish the front stamp or computer generate a sentiment for the speech bubble and place to the right of his head onto the card. Add red glitter dots to the hat as a band and one on the scarf and one on each boot. Make a little lasso out of twine and with a little bit of liquid adhesive add it to Cheepers’ right shoulder. Place the Sheriff’s gold badge onto the center of the scarf and add a red glitter dot in the center.
  9. Finishing the inside of the card is pretty easy.  Remove the backing from the red shadowed Happy Birthday and place over the kraft card, do the same with the red strip below the step. Place little bits of liquid adhesive on the backside of the patterned Happy Birthday and place on to the shadowed area. Add a drop of liquid adhesive on each gold star and place over the shadowed stars. Stamp or computer generate a sentiment on the banner and add it to the red strip just below Happy Birthday. Add the stitched label towards the bottom of the card for a greeting.
