In The Workshop

November 22, 2020

Hello friends, Sandy Diller here, it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season. This year will be celebrated a little differently but that is no reason to cut back on the fun of the season. One of my favorite things is decorating the house and I always like adding something new. I had this wooden kit in my stash and have to confess that I started it last year but didn’t finished it until now.

I previously painted the wooden pieces with white paint. I then covered the wooden trees with ECD Double Sided Adhesive.

Once the release paper was removed from the tape I placed three different ModaScrap Christmas papers on the trees. I trimmed the paper down and then used an emery board to sand the edges (sandpaper can also be used). Hot glue was used to attach the trees to the base.

I used lots of great dies from my ECD collection to create some gifts and bows and then cut and assembled the Jack Frost die set to create the cute snowman.

After cutting and assembling the adorable little Elves I added them to the scene using double backed foam tape to pop them out to the front.

One of the final touches was to add a banner across the front after stamping it with the fun greeting.

The last thing to go on was the little gift with the long ribbon. The package is a small wooden square, painted and then ribbon was added.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have been inspired you to get creative and decorate your home for the season.

Brrrrrrr Birdie

November 12, 2016

nov12brrrrrbirdie1

Happy Saturday to you! I hope this post finds you well! It’s Wanda here. As I write this post, the weather here in south central Iowa is unseasonably warm and according to the weather man it will still be this way when the post goes live. I’m thankful that winter is holding off, although if it was as fun and cute as this card I wouldn’t mind it a bit. The A Way With Words Brrrrrrr die is so much fun for cards and it would be fabulous to use on wintery scrapbook pages. I also love that an extra snowflake is included in the die set! A Jar of Asters

August 1, 2016

2016-07-24 06.07.40

Hello Everyone, it is Christine here from the Susan’s Garden Club Design Team. I am so excited to be introducing 2 of Susan’s new releases, coming soon. I decided to use the Garden Notes Aster and the Canning Jar & Lid. She has both new Garden Notes and CountryScapes dies coming out and trust me, it was a hard decision to choose which ones I wanted to make first, but since summer is so short-lived here in Maine I decided to continue with flowers.

As crafters, I am sure many of you can relate to the fact most of us look at everything wondering what other purpose it could be used for, and that is what I did with the plastic packaging that most cutting plates come in and it is just what I used to cut my jar from. Continue Reading

Summer Hydrangeas

July 3, 2016

Summer Hydrangeas

By Judi Kauffman Summer Hydrangeas A

Happy July, everyone. I’m back with a card that celebrates one of my favorite plants – the hydrangea bush. We planted our own two decades ago. It has survived Washington heat waves, summers with too much rain or two little and my not-so-expert annual pruning. The soil seems to be just right, enough of whatever minerals turn the flowers blue/purple with a tinge of pink, colors that are surprisingly easy to capture with markers or colored pencils.

Here’s to hydrangeas – on cards and in the garden!

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Put the black outline peel-offs onto white cardstock. Color with markers or pencils of choice. I used Winsor & Newton ProMarkers  in Lilac, Orchid, Amethyst, Pastel Blue, and Baby Pink for the florets; Sunflower for center of each floret; Green, Forest Green, and a tiny touch of Marine blended into the leaves.
  1. Fussy-cut around all three hydrangea heads as well as the individual leaves and 23 small florets. Set pieces aside.
  1. Prepare a 6.25” x 5.25” True Green Soft Finish Cardstock top-fold card base. Add two pieces of patterned paper to the card front leaving a quarter-inch border on all sides and overlapping the pieces toward the center (torn edge of one piece remaining visible).

Design Detour:

Be selective and intentional when deciding which parts of the patterned paper you’re using. I began with 12 x 12 sheets from BoBunny called Soiree ‘Tranquil’ (left side of card front) and Beautiful Dreamer ‘Reverie’ (right side). Note that I chose the part of the Reverie sheet that includes what appear to be overlapping photos and a note with the words ‘Don’t Forget’ held by a paperclip. And I picked part of the Tranquil sheet that includes text at the left corner and polka dots toward the right.

  1. Back pieces of Purple Iridescent and Yellow Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz and True Green Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet. Die cut a 5” long Dotted Scallop Oval and a pair of Bead Strings 2 pieces (straight strips) from Purple Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz. Die cut the word Summer twice – once from Yellow Shimmer Sheetz and once from True Green Soft Finish Cardstock.

*Reminder: You MUST use a metal adaptor plate or the Sizzix Big Shot with Precision Base Plate when die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. The cutting side of the die must face the metal plate with Shimmer Sheetz in between, and these go inside your machine’s usual cutting ‘sandwich’. Review Els van de Burgt’s video tutorial if you are new to this technique.

  1. Assemble the card front in this order:

Oval

Bead Strings 2 (one strip across the top and one across the bottom)

The word Summer (yellow offset over green to provide a drop shadow)

Hydrangea heads and leaves (trim at the top edge)

Small individual florets (pop each one on a tiny piece of foam tape)

  1. Another option: Instead of outline peel-offs, make beautiful realistic dimensional hydrangeas using the Susan’s Garden Hydrangea die set by Susan Tierney-Cockburn!

A Pail of Pansies

Pail of Pansies 1

Pail of Pansies 4

Hello this is Christine from Susan’s Garden Club’s Design Team with a new post. My post today was inspired by a picture I saw on the internet – a galvanized pail full of blue pansies. I cannot wait until I can actually have the real thing. I have purchased the pail and now all I need is warmer weather and pansies.

Here is how I constructed this card:

A Dozen Shimmer Sheetz Easter Eggs

March 20, 2016

I like to make flat egg-shaped Shimmer Sheetz ornaments to send in my Easter cards. Sometimes I’ll use Elizabeth Craft Designs Easter Egg outline peel-offs as the starting point. This year it’s the new Joset Designs Easter Eggs die set that stole my heart.

As always, I’ve worked within a quirky color palette – Fire Opal, Australian Opal, Turquoise, and Ruby Gemstone and Bronze Metallic among my choices, but all of the eggs could be switched to bright hues or soft pastels. Shimmer Sheetz is available in over 20 colors including Iridescent in two shades of pink, white, purple, green, yellow, bright orange and red. An Iridescent Sampler Pack might be a fun way to have lots of choices.

Reminders: Shimmer Sheetz is waterproof and colorfast, as are the Glitter Dots and other peel-offs used for the eggs. These ornaments (except for the strawberry eggs) can be hung in the garden as well as displayed indoors. A Metal Adaptor Plate or Precision Base Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz.

Hello!  Summer Hills-Painter here today with a shaker card project.   In the new CHA collections, Karen Burniston released a hot air balloon die and I just knew this would be perfect for a shaker card. This project would be great for students going off to college, a coworker who is moving to a new company or position, and many other life events.

Here is how to make the card:

Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other

February 12, 2016

By Judi Kauffman

This is my first time posting as a guest designer for Susan’s Garden Club. I thought I’d show how versatile my friend Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Garden Patch dies can be! Each one creates a gridded frame with rows of open squares – much like a window with panes, and the squares that come out of the openings can be used as well.

There are four choices in the Garden Patch series, each includes mini-size flowers or leaves as well as the grid. Two of the dies have six square openings, one has nine and one has sixteen. If you’re into squares, there’s a lot to play with and a lot to like.
